Greytness
We have a fruit fly infestation. I'm finding them inside my fids' veggies bowls, which is driving me nuts. How do I safely get rid of them?
KimKim
When I had them in my kitchen on my spider plants, I set out a bowl of apple cider vinager. It didn't catch them all but it did catch some... I'll be watching to see what others have tried to use to get rid of them also.
Dave007
We have a fruit fly infestation. I'm finding them inside my fids' veggies bowls, which is driving me nuts. How do I safely get rid of them? Pop Bottle Trap – Take an narrow-necked, empty pop bottle and fill it part way with fruit juice, beer, soda, V8, or apple cider. Add a few drops of dish soap and then place it in the area of infestation. The fruit flies will enter the bottle and become trapped when they attempt to lay eggs in the liquid. Bowl Trap – Take a bowl of any size and cover the bottom with fruit juice, beer, soda, V8, or apple cider.Add a few drops of dish soap and then cover it’s top with saran wrap. Finally, poke 12-16 holes in it with a pin and place in the area of infestation. The fruit flies will be attracted into the bowl by the bait and will be unable to get back out. murfchck
I had them for two years, even in the winter. It was so bad our drinks had to be covered and cooking was a nightmare. I was at my breaking point!! Exterminators, even if they could treat for them with our birds, wouldn't guarentee getting rid of them. I tried everything from leaving the wine, soda and cider out covered with the holes, they just taunted me! I finally found this trap at a feed store, it is the size of a lime and looks like an apple. It is apple cider vinager with something else added in. ( i tried to refill with my stuff but it didn't work as well ) I had to change it out the second day because it was full already. 2 years with these things mind you and that apple thing was the only thing that worked. We also found a gap where the grout line of the tile and the caulk on the baseboards had left a little gap, they had been nesting in our walls and flying out where ever they could, we recaulked everything and keep those traps out now year round. I feel your pain in having them, when i see one now my heart stops and i panic! I will swear by those traps.
Greytness
Would you happen to recall the name of the traps? The cider vinegar bowls and cone traps haven't caught one fruit fly. These stupid flies are all over my 5 fids' fresh food within a short period of time.
