Makena
To give you a little background... 6 years ago I witnessed a horrible death atop Haleakala. It was my best friend's father. Today I finally decided to face my fears and head back up there. I am glad I did as the experience was euphoric. Filling my lungs with 50 degree air for the first time in a year was absolutely amazing! So here are some pics... they aren't the greatest quality but you get the idea . On the way up we saw the most amazing site, 3 Nene's! They are the Hawaiian State Bird and endangered. The Crater... The observatory... Way in the distance you can see the Big Island... Cute Bird... Just in case you were wondering... Looking down the mountain towards our house (which is on the left by the beach). You can also see the obnoxious cane smoke burning that constantly fills our condo with ash!!!:angry::angry: Awesome tree... And last but not least, I leave you with this... Try not to drink the toilet water at Haleakala... That is my PSA for the day
judygram
Simply amazing, Kristin, and that is what I thought when I flew in a helicopter over this same crater on one of my visits to Maui. It is awe inspiring to see from the air, it is huge and I believe the pilot said you could fit Manhattan inside of it. Thanks so much for sharing these with us Kristin, and I am glad you could face your fears and conquer them, we all have some horrible things happen in our life and we learn from them and move on. The nenes look very much like a goose don't they.
nevjoe
Wow, Wow, what photos Tin and Big A. OMG what a view. It's like looking at a different planet with no life on it. I had so may chances to go there and never want to fly so far for a beack. What a jerk I've been, and of all the places I went to around the world is nothing like what I see in you photos. Great stuff guys. Karma for you Joe
nevjoe
By the way, people don't know it Snows there by the observatory. How does the stars look from up there. I love looking at stars. It's the best part of a cruise, going to the top of the ship while you're in the ocean and the stars glisten above you. The moon in the sky reflecting off the ocean is the cream on the cake. OK! I’m rambling on. Joe

Post edited by: nevjoe, at: 2007/10/16 16:
