Makena Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Andrew and I went to Haleakala today and saw a bunch of these birds... anyone know what they are?? We saw them mostly at around 10,000 ft. We were just curious as we think they are so cute!
Guest Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 They look a litle like a guinea to me. At least the shape is similiar.
Tari Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 Not sure what the scientific name is buy my friend use to have three she called the pea hens.
judygram Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I don't know Kristin but I agree, they look similar in build to a guinea hen.
Toni Posted October 16, 2007 Posted October 16, 2007 I looked it up. Its called a Chukar(Alectoris Chukar) its one of the birds in that region.

Makena Posted October 17, 2007 Author Posted October 17, 2007 Thanks guys! We enjoyed them, they were running around all over the place making the cutest little noises! It's crazy how much life there was up there, it is so desolate. Thank you Toni for looking it up! Karma for you!
nevjoe Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 I guess it's like a partridge in a pear tree. Joe
