Ray P Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Hi Cleo and katie and welcome to the grey forum. A baby in the house, That is awesome. No mater how long you have a grey you will always learn something new.
judygram Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 Hello Katie and welcome to our family. Congrats on your baby grey Cleo, is this your first grey, first parrot? You need to browse thru the many threads here on the forum for similar questions and see the responses from the many members here for you will find most of your answers but feel free to ask any and all questions. I would discourage Cleo from landing on your head then staying there, its not a proper perch for her and as you have discovered it results in poop in the hair which is unacceptable so when she flys towards your head just put your arm up to divert her elsewhere, she will soon get the hint that she is not to land there.
JeffNOK Posted October 7, 2012 Posted October 7, 2012 You are in the right place. Read read read. There is a wealth of knowledge here.
KatieUsher Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 Hello Katie and welcome to our family. Congrats on your baby grey Cleo, is this your first grey, first parrot? Even when she is on my shoulder she will climb up onto my head
kins2321@yahoo.com Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 All babies will land on our heads. Redirect her down to your wrist. I'm a big wrist advocate, until they learn to trust and follow rules, this is where my birds stayed until they learned. This prevents fascial bites, etc. Nancy
KatieUsher Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 Thanks for that nancy..she's not as bad as she was
kins2321@yahoo.com Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 She will get better overtime. Meanwhile... enjoy being a new mom! We are all here to help you. Ask any question, someone here will know! I wish I knew of this site when Sophie came home, as she knew more than me! LOL! She STILL knows more than me.... but I'm learning! Even a decade later. Nancy
aerial.2000 Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Even when she is on my shoulder she will climb up onto my headheyyyyy and welcome to you and your new baby ... I learned pretty quick while allowing marco to play behind my head to be VERY leary she crawled up on my head and before I could scoot her off she leaned down and snatched my earing out of my ear !!!!!!! it happened SO fast anddddddddd it not only hurt me but she had the ONE part of my earing in her beak so I freaked out so now we dont allow head or shoulder no matter how much she insists lol cant wait to see pics of the baby!
kins2321@yahoo.com Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Sophie would steal my earrings as well. Quick as a fox! I think she was " gem" fascinated, as I love emeralds , sapphires and diamonds! LOL ( small guys!) NOT rich! She didn't hurt me though. I didn't wear earrings for about a year, until she learned shoulder status. The goal SHOULD be shoulder status, just takes time. Six months for Sophie. Now she does 50/50. On my shoulder when I do chores, she wants to come. On my wrist when I'm on the couch, she wants to cuddle. Nancy

KatieUsher Posted October 23, 2012 Author Posted October 23, 2012 Hi sorry all for a late reply.. She now very rarely goes to my head she sits on my shoulder sometimes nibbles on my ear now and then.. shes now also starting sitting on my wrist so she can get a head rub
Greywings Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Katie she want to be a Hat bird, welcome among us.
KatieUsher Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 She must be through that phase? What do you mean?
Timbersmom Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 I was just referring to stages of development, like human children go through. I've never had a baby, but when others responded saying young birds do that (land on the head) I assumed it was a phase they went through. Sorry for any confusion!
KatieUsher Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 Yeh it's only the odd time she will land on my head now.. It's my wrist now
