He's tipped over the water for the last time!!

Noodle has a bad habit of picking up or spilling or dropping his water dish multiple times a day, usually when he wants attention  So today, Cody came home with a "water dish" that he designed for Noodle not to be able to spill. He welded it together with steel and made it incredibly heavy, so the little bugger won't be able to mess with it too much. It worked great for the first 20 minutes or so...no spilled water! Then, I come back to check on him a little later, and he pooped a big fat one right in the new dish. My little man has an attitude problem...there's no way he could have gotten poop in it unless he did it on purpose ::sigh:: I think he's just irritated that he can't spill it anymore, but I'm worried that if we're gone for the day and he gets his water messy or even manages to spill it that he won't have anything to drink. Suggestions (besides bolting it down :P)?

We've tried multiple dishes, which just results in multiple broken dishes. We've also tried plastic (he chews it up), attaching it to the cage (he still manages to flip it upside down and it's hard to fill). And yeah it is pretty hilarious now that I think about it so feel free to laugh :D

Noodle has found something that really excites him, turning over his water dish, he must have received a great reaction for that feat so now he wants to keep repeating it but Wingy's idea of the Tidy Seed Feeding System might just be the ticket to provide him with water that he can't poop in or dump.

He will not destroy or spill this... I have the 16oz one... It is Greyt.

How long have you had it? I only ask because I've heard some birds will stuff food or toy pieces in the valve and all the water drains out. But I've wanted to use them before.

Since day 1... about 9 months now. I keep it on the opposite side of his cage from his pellets (only thing he eats in his cage). I mounted above his water dish to 1) catch drips and 2) catch a flood as you described.

Have not had a malfunction yet. The only drips are while he is drinking.

I would try it.

So even when he sticks food in it it still works? I have a couple with that kind of valve (different bottle) for my bunnies but haven't really tried them yet.

It takes some ingenuity to keep fresh water in a cage when we have a parrot who wants to play in it. When I saw the link from GT_Jacket and went to look at the water accessories, I thought you meant that you put plumbing into the bird cage, LOL. I was really impressed, but then actually saw they have water bottles. Our parrots are dunkers, so I keep one water bowl on each side of the cage, one to drink that stays clean and one to mess up and that gets changed more often. One of ours actually just wants to play in the water, I saw where Dave mentioned he would use a tool to make a "bump" from the inside of the stainless steel dish so it fits more snugly in the metal ring. When we fixed the ring so the dish couldn't be pulled out, Kopi would use a small stainless steel condiment cup to dip water and fling it out the bars. It was great fun for him.

My guy has never put any food or toy parts in it. My gut tells me food would be okay. If the piece was small enough to not cause the valve to stick open it should be soft enough for them to push/bite the valve stem through it.

Also, the valve stem works 365 degrees. Not sure they would operate it other than pushing it down, but they may.
