MarcusCAG
Does anyone own, have past experience working with, or even just know anything about any of the Asiatic parrots aside from the Indian Ringnecks? I have been doing a bit of reading on them lately and am just amazed at how many 'cousins' our Tybalt would seem to have! Derbyan, Alexandrine, Moustached parrot, the Plum-headed parakeets... I'd love to hear some species-specific stories if anyone has any to share! Thanks in advance for any replies!
Dave007
Some interesting facts--- They are definitely the true parakeets. That's a proven fact.!! They have feathers. They can fly. Like other parrots, they have a beak and use it for eating and biting. Like other parrots they come in different colors. Lots of information can be found on Austrailan bird boards because those species of birds are a favorite in that part of the world. MarcusCAG
^^ I guess that's a hint that nobody is going to come crawling out of the woodwork here. I did actually notice that a lot of the articles online about those parrots seemed to be written by owners/breeders in Australia... I'll have to check out the forums now, too. Thanks! CLB
My friend Carmen who owns Brightwood Aviary here in Ga raises Ringnecks, Derbyan, Alexandrine and Regent parrots! She has some info on her website about each. I have seen them and all I can say the the Derbyan can fly like a stealth bomber even in the house! Very impressive for a bigger bird.
