Shelly Yokum
I live in almost downtown, Louisville KY. I am not really a city girl, but Due to certain circumstances, I thought I would try it. I have been a little scared living here by my self, for my husband is a truck driver and I think I only married a pay check, because he is never here. To give you an idea of the neighborhood that I reside in. I am the only white person, in this area. When I first moved here I was living in a motel looking for a place that would let me have my animals. When you rent its not always easy to find a place that is affordable that will let you have your pets, specially in the city. I had a doberman, that was shot 04/06/11. So my nerves are through the roof. The police shot him in our own yard, for those that don't know the story. So moving is away from here if the next step. Now that I don't have my dog, people are using my yard as a cut through. I like my privacy, and it really ticks me off they wonder through my yard, peeking through windows, and probably looking for something to steal, as for it wouldn't be the first time. So this morning watching tv, and of course surfing the net, Roy lets out a long continuous scream, much different from the morning and evening little scream. I jump up to see what was to matter and sure enough, my yard is the cut through once again. He knew that was not right, and let me know that someone was trespassing. I gave him high praise. It still amazes me on how smart these critters really are. I may not have my barking dog any more, but I have my screaming macaw. That person should be really glad that my bird wasn't outside, I think Roy would have stood his ground, where the dog would have barked and wagged his tail. thenabrd
good for roy! my peach front conure has her "alarm" mode too. she decides who/what she's going to go into alarm mode over though. sometimes its for people she's never seen before going by the house, sometimes, its for the same person, even though she's seen them walk by the house for her 8 years. one lady she's seen for 8 years, has never been close to or had any interaction with her, just sees her from the window and alarms everytime, lol!!! i love our living alarms!!!! Shelly Yokum
I was s proud of him, that is for sure. Someone not knowing it was a bird could become very startled, hearing that scream.

judygram
I still shudder when I think about that incident and birds do make good alarms, I don't have an inside dog so my sun conure is my alarm, of course she sounds off when I come home but that is for another reason. Shelly Yokum
He is doing a little better, but he is always saying Rocco is hurt, over and over, I think maybe he is wanting to know when he will stop hurting so he can come back home. I have even thought about getting another, and call him Rocco so that Austin will think that he is all better. I don't much like the idea, but sometimes you have to do what is right for the one we love. What if's keep clouding my mind in a negative way. I might just have to find another one, if they thought that Rocco hurts still comes up. I am hoping that a new place will help change the feelings for all involved. Thank you all for caring. Jingles thank you for all your kind words.

katana600
Good for Roy the guard bird! I would be sorely tempted to fill a squirt gun with skunk musk and let the intruders think a "natural" predator was hanging out in my yard to discourage them from poking around. Of course, I would have the tomato juice on the ready because knowing my luck, the wind would change and I would be the stinky one. In all seriousness, I hope you find a quiet neigborhood where neighbors look after one another and provide companionship instead of stress. You deserve that. Shelly Yokum
I am going looking around about 100 miles from here this weekend, and I will keep you all posted. Thanks again for your kind words.
judygram
I like Dee's idea of the skunk scent but no one should have to put up with what you have and the sooner you move the better off you and your flock will be, hope you find something suitable with great neighbors.
