Inky
our birds have their cages in our living room. we live across the street from a school, so they get to watch the people and traffic during the day and really enjoy it. the roof of our front porch provides them protection from the sun, as that is a south facing window as well. i don't think the south facing garden window you describe wouldn't be too bad, unless it got really hot there. it's still an area where you might put a play stand so the bird can still enjoy watching the goings on in the garden during the afternoon or morning, before the midday sun blazes through. I think that I will take your advice and have a perch over looking the garden for variety. Although I think that the perch will have to go in my study because I will let him out whilst I am in rooms other than the lounge (which I am really anal about keeping tidy) everywhere else in the house is up for grabs and given that we have another 10 rooms or so this shouldn't be a problem - hopefully. Can you believe that I now have to be patient for 3 weeks for the bird to be fully weened and able to come and live with us.

The longest wait you will ever have but many have waited longer, just imagine you were waiting for the egg to hatch and the whole handfeeding process to take place until your baby was weaned to come home, 3 weeks is a snap but take this time to make sure you have everything you need before the big day gets here. thenabrd
Can you believe that I now have to be patient for 3 weeks for the bird to be fully weened and able to come and live with us. in that time, read, read, read, and learn as much as you can. maybe the breeder will let you come for visits in the meantime. we were able to visit kallie while we were waiting for the 2 other birds to have new homes found for them. from the time we decided to rehome kallie until we were able to bring her home was about 2 months. but it was well worth the wait. we did this so that those remaining birds didn't have more trauma than necessary and to give kallie a chance to get used to us, our voices, how we look and such. i always took a treat, like an apple or nuts when we visited and gave it out to all the birds. we also had a home visit as well, but it's a good thing. the family wanted to make sure that the birds were going to good forever homes, not someone that might turn around in a few months and sell the bird or give it away yet again. in the whole process we made some new friends! i still send email updates to the daughter of the woman who owned kallie before us and the gal who helped out with the birds when her mother became ill. they love the updates. Butttaxi
We also give updates on Rorschach to his previous owner. I don't think she wanted to part with him but because she couldn't bring him to college with her she had to rehome. She brought him here for a visit to check us out to be sure we would be good parronts. She had other people who were interested and she almost went with them because they already had birds and had experience. Luckily they chose us and I thank my lucky stars she did.
