Here's one from me:

BIRD SQUAWKS ON OWNER'S AFFAIR!

A devastated Englishman learned the horrible truth that his girlfriend was cheating on him - straight from his pet parrot's mouth.

Chris Taylor's parrot Ziggy began squawking "Hiya, Gary" every time his girlfriend Suzy Collins's mobile phone rang.

The African Grey also made kiss noises each time it heard the name Gary on television or radio.

At first amused owner Mr Taylor, a computer programmer, dismissed it as something the bird had picked up watching TV.

But then he snuggled up beside Suzy on the sofa in their flat in Leeds and Ziggy cried out in Suzy's voice "I love you, Gary." The cat was finally out of the bag.

Call-center worker Ms Collins, 25, broke down in tears and confessed to having a four-month fling with a former colleague. She had met her lover in the flat while Ziggy looked on.

Her confession ended their two-year relationship. It also led to 30-year-old Mr Taylor parting company with his pet - because it kept screeching out her lover's name.

Mr Taylor wasn't sorry to see the back of Suzy after what she did, he said. But it really broke his heart to part with eight-year-old Ziggy which he had bought as a chick.

"I lost my girlfriend and best mate at the same time. But it was torture hearing him repeat that name Gary over and over," he said.

Mr Taylor named the parrot after Ziggy Stardust, David Bowie's alter ego. It learned to reproduce the line "Put on your red shoes and dance the blue!" from the Bowie song Let's Dance.

Ziggy has since found a new home with the help of a local parrot dealer.

Willie the Parrot Saves Baby's Life

A parrot whose cries of alarm helped save the life of a choking girl in the US has been hailed a hero and awarded the Red Cross's Animal Lifesaver Award in Denver, Colorado, USA, Will and Guy have discovered.

As baby Hannah was choking on her breakfast, Willie the Parrot saw that she was turning blue so he caused a commotion by flapping his wings noisily whilst squawking, 'Mama! Baby!'

Megan Howard, Hannah's mother heard his cries and was able to save Hannah's life by applying the *Heimlich manoeuvre.

Yet another marvellous animal tale.

How about this one!

One day David went to an auction. While he was there, he bid for a parrot. David really wanted this bird, so he got caught up and thoroughly involved in the bidding. He kept on bidding, but kept getting outbid, so he bid higher and higher and higher.

Finally, after he had bid much more than he had intended, David won the bid; the parrot was his at last.

As he was paying for the parrot, he said to the auctioneer, 'I hope this parrot can talk. I would hate to have paid this much for it, only to find out that he can't talk!'

'Don't worry.' said the auctioneer, 'He can talk. Who do you think kept bidding against you?'

PERRANPORTH, England, June 13 (UPI) -- Pedestrians and motorists at the Perranporth, England, town center said they were surprised to see a family of swans use a crosswalk to cross the road.

Witnesses said the mother swan led her eight cygnets, which were thought to be about one month old, on a 1,640 foot journey from the beach to their home in a nearby boating lake, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

They said the birds observed proper road safety procedures by using the pedestrian crossing to traverse the road.

"It was quite funny that they just walked across the zebra crossing," said David Quinnell, who spotted the swans while shopping. "When I first saw them they were lined up outside the fish and chip shop looking into the window. Seeing them on the high street was really quite strange -- it looked very surreal."

Rex Harper, a retired warden for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said the mother swan may have learned to use the crosswalk by observing humans.

PARROT IS KEY WITNESS IN DIVORCE TRIAL!

Argentina -- Angry wife Rosella DeGambos got a family insider to testify in her divorce trial--a blabbermouth parrot named Bozo!

The star witness spilled all the family secrets in his two-hour appearance before the court, and Mrs. DeGambos, 47, got her divorce.

"I knew he'd seen everything that my husband Carlos did when my back was turned," Mrs. DeGambos said in an interview about her bizarre divorce court ploy. "And I knew he had the vocabulary to describe what he'd witnessed.

"My lawyer thought at first it was a ridiculous idea to call on Bozo, but he doesn't know Bozo like I do."

Incredibly, the 14-year-old cockatoo answered questions and identified photos during his testimony before Judge Manuel Agusto in a civil court here. According to press accounts, the bird tended to repeat himself but presented convincing proof that his master, a businessman, had been unfaithful.

The stool-pigeon parrot described three "pretty dollies" that Carlos, 52, had "tickled" while his wife was away. He also identified the women in photographs, calling them by their correct names.

"I used to think that Carlos was a faithful husband but Bozo let me know about a year ago that something was up when I wasn't home," Mrs. DeGambos said. "He was using new words, words of love. And he began giggling in a high-pitched feminine voice. He kept saying, “No Carlos, not here,” and things like that. I knew if the lawyers could get him to testify, there was plenty of information they could get from him."

Sure enough, in sworn statements, the feathered witness squawked out secret after secret. Shown one picture of a 23-year-old beautician Carlos allegedly wooed in his home, the bird shrieked, "Honeybun, I love you."

When Mrs. DeGambos' attorney asked the bird, "Who

loves Carlos?" the winged witness said, "Ruby loves

Carlos, Ruby loves her baby." Ruby is DeGambos'

young and voluptuous secretary.

At one point the bird's testimony even indicated that there were problems between the DeGambos. When shown a picture of Mrs. DeGambos, he said, "Pretty

birdie, pretty birdie" and "Not tonight, honey."

"It's an outrageous insult to my client that this bird-brained witness should be called to testify

against him before the court," said Carlos DeGambos' lawyer, Jorge Lines.

Judge Agusto, who granted Mrs. DeGambos her divorce, overruled the attorney's objections and let Bozo's testimony stand, the first such ruling in the world, legal experts say.

These are some smashing stories, but my fave so far has to be Bozo!!! That's almost unbelievable - but knowing what these birds are capable of after living with one for two years - not so much! Thanks for all of these!

Great thread Jill!

This is so sad. I'm praying they can get it under control. It seems amazing to me that the people responsible for this don't have some sort of contingency plan for when/if something like this happens. I know it's a disaster on a huge scale, but it seems to be taking an awful long time.

I had just come home from work and the "kid's news" was on - I laughed, and laughed and laughed!

Eating can make you feel sleepy - as these chicks found out.

They were filmed falling over after being fed!

Three new peregrine falcon chicks were born at a viewing centre in Aberdeenshire and they've been keeping staff amused with their eating and sleeping antics.

Check out their chick flick, which was filmed by the Forestry Commission, Scotland.

  • 2 years later...

Does the movie Rio count?

It really is a great movie and for me it in a way deals with the issue of clipping a parrot and taking away it's ability to fly.

It also explores the bond that a person develops with their parrots

I think you would really enjoy it even though it's animated.
