I live in a tiny little suburban town in Bergen county, New Jersey. It's so small that everyone knows everyone else, and it only takes a few hours for gossip to spread around. There's nothing to do and not much to see, unless you're up for a diner.

Well, I'm in New York City.. Staten Island to be exact.. NY is a HUGE place. 9,000,000 people or something like that.. I hate it here. Want out in the worst way... I deal with 2 hours of traffic to drive 20 miles. Things are so expensive you wouldn't believe it. I pay $9 toll to go over a bridge.. EVERYDAY..

I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York.. Saw the World Trade Center fall as it was happening. My brother was under the buildings when debris was coming down.. He survived.

Manhattan is an incredible place to see. The New Jersey Shore, which is only about 45 minutes away from where I live has some of the best beaches in the world.. Atlantic City, about 2 hours away has Las Vegas like Casinos.

But, after 48 years of living here I need a major change.. I've been big city way too long.. It's having a negative effect on me..

 I Have the advantage of living in a City that you could walk from one end to the other in less than an hour. So there's no 2 hours of sitting in traffic on my way to work...9,000,000 people in one city we don't even have that population in the whole country....

Texas is probably my favorite U.S State, never been but always wanted to live on a ranch... Tricky living in a place like that would do my head in, I hate gossip and all the negativity that goes with it.....

I don't live in a city thank God, I live out in the country, in the mountains of Virginia, but what beautiful mountains. I should post a couple of pictures of what views I have from nearby. I have always lived in Botetourt County except for a few months when I was first married. I would not want to live anywhere else on this planet except for Hawaii, that is.

Bad thing is I am far from the things you all in the city enjoy every day, I drive close to 20 miles just to go to work and about the same to restaurants, movie theaters, shops, grocery stores and such. Just takes more time and money for gas to go aywhere or do anything. The beach is a good 5 to 6 hours away, that is one reason why the other place I would want to live would be Hawaii, the beach is close no matter where you are.

Out here we have farms and fruit orchards, but not too much industry, but we are considered the bedroom community of the city of Roanoke, about 30 miles away from me. Especially the southern end of the county nearest Roanoke, lots of new houses and new growth.

I can go outside in my yard and not be seen by any other neighbors, its quiet, all you hear are the crickets and the tree frogs at night, and it is dark enough to really see the stars on a clear night. I love it here, its my little heaven on earth. My grandkids can come and play in the yard and not have to worry about the traffic, not much of that on a dirt road, but I drive a 4-wheel Jeep because I need it in the winter to get out when it snows.

It can get pretty cold here in the winters and pretty hot in the summers but this is where I call home and home is where the heart is and so therefore my heart belongs in Eagle Rock.:) :) :) :) :) :)

Shawzy4 - Thanks for starting this Topic :cheer:

I live in the San Joaquin Valley of California which is considered the "Bread Basket" of the Nation. It produces around 35% of the fruit and produce for most of the Nation.

The City I live in is a small City of 120,000 and is at the base of the foothills at the bottom of Sequoia Nation Park where the Giant Sequioa Trees are.

Plenty of thing's to do such as Boating, Snow skiing, Backpacking in the Mountains, off roading, Motocross and much more!! So most of us here are very active in these things.

The Beach, Disneyland,Hollywood and other such places are only a 3 hour drive, so it's a great location.

I work 3 hours away in San Jose (Silicon Valley) where the High Tech Jobs are for Electronic and Software Engineers are plentiful.

No, just because I live in California, I do not go have Coffee with Brad Pitt...:-) ....had to add this for the Women on this Forum ;)

Karma + for You Shawzy4!!

I'm from a small town in South Africa called Odendaalsrus. The nearest city to us is Welkom, about 16 km away,or for the people who use miles, about 10 miles. It is situated in the Freestate Province in an area known as the Goldfields of South Afrca, because of the many goldmines in this region. We got a nice climate here, not too cold in Winter and not too hot in Summer.South Africa is a nice country to live in with friendly people, after the first democratic elections in 1994 they called us the rainbow nation because of the many cultures in the country. We have 11 official languages.

Shawzy4 - Interesting. My Great x3 Grandfather came to the US from Scotland in the late 1700s. Do you know if you still have that family line here in California?

I'm in sunny California as well. I live and work in the San Francisco Bay Area, although I haven't been to San Francisco in years, I think, maybe I drove through it more recently...

I live about 25 miles from work and it can take me between 45 minutes and an hour to get there. While the weather is beautiful more often than not, the beach is only about an hour away, the snow covered mountains are only 4 hours way and I can get to Napa Valley in about 2 hours, I still long to be back in my homeland of Michgan. There the weather mostly sucks and there are no mountains, but there is a large freshwater "ocean" (ok not that big but breath-taking anyway), beautiful rolling land filled with trees and not over developed. I miss it :(

I now live in a SMALL Logging Town in the Washington Foothills of the Cascades... The Town is called Darrington... We have two bars across the street from each other... (The Red Top Tavern and the "Whiskey Bar" now named Skidders, which has had 3 owners in just about as many years ;) lol) There are also quite a few churches of different faiths spread throughout the town.

We have a Grocery Store, gas station, auto shop, burger barn, recently a pizza/bakery... and two banks... And of course... Lumber Mills...

I grew up in what I thought was a small town (Snohomish, WA) but I was wrong... I love Snohomish and my heart will always linger there, but it was growing too fast, traffic was terrible, aftre high school, noone knew who I was... I couldn't walk into the grocery store and people would KNOW me... That's what I get here, in Darrington... I can go anywhere and people will be like, Hey, Gwenn!! How's that little boy of yours?? OR How's your day going?? Headed to work?? I LOVE that... Yes, small towns have gossip, I don't listen to it and I don't do anything that gets me gossipped about... I love being able to just drive a couple miles in any direction and there's a river to swim in or to toss rocks in or to just lay back close my eyes and listen to... There's beautiful mountains all around and Fourth of July is the best up here... The town puts on a show and the fireworks echo off the three mountains, so you hear Boom! ba boom boom for each fireworks... You all gotta come visit some 4th!! :D he he

Anywho... The only drawback is it is 55 minute drive to anywhere else... I drive 55 minutes to work and there is NO traffic!! and there's no movie theatre, or walmart or or or... But, I love it here!!
