danmcq
Here is part one of the world parrot trust video. I thought some of the newer Grey owners would enjoy this background on Greys in the wild. Here is part two. It contains addition information as well. But, if you do not want to know or see how Greys are caught in the wild, do not watch it. edited by: danmcq, at: 2009/10/08 16:

Joolesgreyuk
Part 2 is really quite a sad video but very informative. Are there more parts?
judygram
Thanks for that link and I probably won't watch it if it shows how they catch wild greys, done seen that and do not care for that image in my head again as I am trying to get rid of the one from before. Joolesgreyuk
Oh dear part3 was really tough watching. Very sad, the way they are handled, bundled into boxes and only half make it to shipping destination... Surely breeders have enough birds to breed from, can't they save from their chicks for next generation breeding?
she
It is so hard knowing so many wild parrots are suffering such treatment,I did not watch as I have seen it before and could not do that again.I must say though that having been to Africa an seeing first hand the absolute poverty and deprivation the African people live in It is no surprise that they try and survive on the meagre amount of money the trappers are given. It is further along the line that the money is made. jessdecutie18
I watched all three parts, and yes it is very sad... I'm confused though Why is this still going on with all the breeder's out there? Who is looking for crazy wild-caught Greys? I would hate to take a bird that hasn't grown up in captivity and trap it like that
danmcq
It is still going on because there are many countries that have not outlawed the import of wild african greys. They also trap them for peoples that believe parts of the grey have magical powers or healing related powers. I won't go into that at all, but thats why it stioll goes on. As Sheila stated, it is an income to those in desperate need and struggling to survive.
