stephjls
If you were going to hand feed an older baby grey, (just stared weaning) would you syringe or spoon feed? Whats the difference? With my quaker, we syringe fed her from a little pink baby. We didn't have any problems. The grey i'm getting, we were told spoon feeding is the way to go, and a bird should only be syringe fed if its sick. Opinions, or facts at that matter. I haven't really looked into the whole spoon feeding deal. I just want to hear your thoughts on the matter, if it really makes a difference? danmcq
Spoon is easier and it allows them to eat more at their own pace. It is more messy though. Bending the spoon inwards to make more of a funnel helps a lot with lessening the mess..
lovethatgrey
I was wondering... how does one bend a spoon in order to make feeding their parrot easier?
danmcq
I used a pair of water pump pliers spanning the spoon and just squeezed until it was almost the diameter of a large straw.
lovethatgrey
Hmmm.. Thanks Dan.. .. but I think I am still not sure of what I would do. I don't even know what water pump pliers are?

danmcq
LOL Sheila!! Ok any pair of pliers will work just fine if you can fit them across the spoon and still have enough leverage to close them and bend the spoon. Ok, heres a picture of what us "Guys" call water pump pliers..
casper
http://www.greyforums.net/forums/limitstart/20/the-nursery/73409-handfeeding-a-baby-grey.html I dont know if you have already taken a look, but the above thread is about handfeeding your baby and tells you about the differences. I think the spoon is best as well!

lovethatgrey
Ahh... Thanks guys. Purchasing an already bent spoon would be alot simpler than purchasing scary looking pliers to bend them with.

ricoarmenta
I prefer syringe feeding. I've always used a syringe. They both essentially feed your baby but the syringe is a lot faster and less messy. But to each his own. I've raised countless babies and all were syringe fed.
Tycos_mom
I syringe fed my Grey and my GCC and My cockatiel I tried spoon feeding Adaya a few times but I wasted more formula than she ate so I gave up and used a syringe.
