  1. Here's Oni (kitty w/o white), Bailey (beagle), Maximus (chihuahua), Nikko (kitty w/ white), and Apollo (dobbie)
  2. I will post pictures of the rest of the gang in a separate post!
  3. I am so sorry for your loss. I have a dobbie too and I know how hard it must be.
  4. @Blitz67: My mom bought it for Dali...I believe it's dragon wood Thanks guys...he added a 3rd trick, he waves at you I love how smart they are...they're smarter than most kids here in Miami! (actually, they're smarter than most people!)
  5. I just got home from work and this is the conversation that ensued: Me: "I have to make Dali and the rest of the gang dinner..." Hubby: "How about my dinner?" Me: "Order some Chinese."  LOL! I know you guys will understand! PS...We have no human children
  6. Your quick thinking saved your baby's life! So glad Cappy is ok...This is what I tell the hubby constantly and he thinks I'm overprotective of Dali ever since Beezer (15 yo CAG) passed. I have told him absolutely no teflon and he still bothers about making a fondue and just putting Dali in a different room. Jeez, will this man ever learn?!? LOL
  7. Hello Everyone! So, I have been searching to see if there is another way besides ziploc bags to store the chop in the freezer. I'm a bit of a tree hugger and hated throwing out so many of those bags. I found freezer trays for baby food that could replace the bags and be reused. RIP Lilly

I know how much it hurts...I lost my Beezer (CAG) who was 15 yrs old in December...It does take time and your other little one will help you heal
  9. So I was doing some research online and found an article about imping. Imping is commonly done on raptor birds. It's like feather extensions. They use donated feathers and splint them to the shaft of the trimmed feathers. This gives the bird the ability to fly without waiting to molt. Below is the link about this being done to a young macaw. What are your thoughts? http://www.theparrotuniversity.com/imping_parrots.php
  10. There's no issue with the mess, it comes with having a grey. He only tosses the green pellets when he's in his cage, he only likes the orange and yellow. On the stand, he was trowing all his food and looking at me to see a reaction LOL...he's a little better this evening...I just don't want him to think that bitting will result in him getting his way...thanks for the replies!
  11. My 6mo CAG, Dali is having a little attitude today. He seems to be in a bad mood and is biting but not hard...but you can tell he has an attitude..quite frankly, he's being a little jerk LOL...does this happen often? And what should I do? He was on his stand and was just throwing his food out of the dish and when I told him "no" he gave me the death stare and then did it again and stared at me to see what I would do!...I didn't want to back down so I told him to 'no, don't do that' and the asked him to step up...he put his head down for a scratch...again I said "no, I want you to step up" and he went to bite but I didn't back down...I gently grabbed his beak (he enjoys beak massages) and asked him to step up in a very serious voice...he finally complied...now he's just relaxing and being his cute self again....he did the same thing this morning in his cage and then his small stand to both my hubby and me but we didn't back off...we acted like we weren't scared of getting bit and got him to step up...did I do the correct thing? I know we shouldn't force greys to do things but I don't want him to learn that being aggressive gets him what he wants. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
  12. I know this is an old post but I'll add my thoughts! When it comes to breeding any animal for certain traits, you most likely are inbreeding. A perfect example are dog breeds. All dogs are the same species, even though a great dane is completely different than a chihuahua. We all know the problem that certain dog breeds have and this has to do with it being passed down genetically due to trait-specific breeding and inbreeding. Inbreeding is not done as often in dogs because some breeds are hundreds of years old. BUT new breeds are inbred. A perfect example is my white doberman. Before anyone starts accusing me of being irresponsible, he was a rescue!!! LOL Let me tell you that this dog visits the vet monthly due to so many health problems. In order for them to get this color (recessive) they often inbreed. I knew what I was getting into but my friend couldn't take care of him and she really wanted me to have him because she knows how well my animals are taken care of. He is a hemophiliac, has skin issues, allergies to everything, digestive issues, constant skin and ear infections, light sensibility (very light blue eyes) that can cause migraines...the list goes on! He is a great dog, remarkably smart and friendly, but there are stories of these albinos (no one is sure if they are albino or just white) with aggression issues from all the inbreeding. Many of the domestic animals we have now have traits due to inbreeding. I'm not sure how I feel about the red greys. After having Apollo (dobbie) I'm not a fan of trait-specific breeding. By inbreeding these birds, you could be transferring other recessive traits that are detrimental to them. Greys live a lot longer than dogs and we might still not see what this inbreeding is doing to them....they are beautiful animals...heck, I was excited that my grey has random red feathers by his feet but I wouldn't buy one of these birds...with their intelligence, it could be the start of a horror movie similar to Hitchcock's The Birds!
  13. That's awesome!!! I can't wait for Dali to molt so his flight feathers grow back!
  14. Dali is my 6mo old CAG. We started training today and his intelligence amazes me...I LOVE GREYS!!! After 10 minutes, he learned 'turn around' and by the end of our session he learned 'turn around' and 'shake'...he also knows step up and step down. Who needs kids when you have a Grey?!?

  16. Hi Everyone, I posted this in another thread but I think this one is more appropriate. I have a 6 month old CAG, not sure if male or female, I am waiting on the DNA results. He/she is 385g and the vet said he was healthy. Dali eats anything I give him. My question is what size to get the aviator harness? The small is for parrots weighing 190-425g and the medium is for parrots weighing 425-600g. The description says that the medium size is for CAGs. Any suggestions?
  17. Hi everyone! I have a CAG (not sure male or female yet, waiting on DNA results) and Dali is 6 months old and weighs 385g. The vet said he/she was healthy and of good weight. My question is whether I should get him the aviator harness in a size small or medium? Anyone with a small CAG that has used the harness and which size?
  18. The attack happened over night...somehow the raccoons were able to break in and grabbed his wing...the avian vet says it wasn't the worse he's seen so I was hopeful...unfortunately, the stress from the attack altered his blood chemistry (calcium and potassium off the charts) and he never fully recovered...it was very devastating..I raised him from a baby and I've had him since I was 15 years old...I felt like I lost a child.
  19. Beezer (15 yo CAG) passed over a week ago due to a raccoon attack. He hated being grabbed with a towel and would always scream. After the attack, he didn't want to come out of his cage to go to the vet. My mom had to use a towel to grab him, he barely fought her and when she hugged him with the towel, he relaxed and said "I love you."...I'm going to miss that smart little bugger.
  20. With the current breeding of Greys, I don't understand why they would still need to take them from the wild. I'm not sure what happened to the smuggler but I know that in certain nature preserves in Africa, poachers are shot on site.
  21. Hello Everyone, As some of you might already know, my 15 yo CAG (Beezer) passed recently due to a raccoon attack. I was devastated and my mom gave me a 5 month old CAG (Dali) to help me through this rough time. At first it was a little overwhelming but he (or she) is helping me heal. Dali came with clipped wings and I believe they are really bothering him. He keeps on chewing them. I read a lot on clipped wings and I think I am going to let this little guy develop his flying skills. I want to harness train him. My question(s) is, how long does it take to have his flight feathers grow back? And I don't want him to develop a chewing or plucking habit, any recommendations on what I should do? As of now, he's only chewing the cut feathers and now is shredding some of his other wing feathers. It's not a constant thing and he does have a lot of chew toys. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

  23. Thank you all for your kind words. Dali (baby bird) is helping me heal. I know it takes time and I was happy to find that my mom has one of Beezer's red feathers and my photographer friend has some great pictures! I look forward to making them into a nice frame. I am glad to be part of this forum, so much information. Thank you all again and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
  24. Thank you so much for your kind words. It's been tough. And to add to the emotional, mental, and physical roller coaster, my mom has arrived with a 5 mo old CAG. She just felt so bad seeing me like this, she thought it would make it better. She knows he/she won't be a replacement for Beezer and she thought the baby would bring some joy, and he/she has (and some bites!). I feel like it's too soon because I am still grieving Beezer but now I have a baby that I have to look after. I just don't want him/her to feel my sadness or stress and think it's him/her. The next few days and weeks are going to be interesting...I am a mess of emotions. I always try to look at the positive in everything. This baby will help me heal and keep me entertained. It's just that I don't know how to feel! When I feel sad, I don't want the baby to be around me. And when I feel happy and he/she makes me laugh, I feel a little guilty. I guess I have to stay strong so the baby won't feel the negative energy.
