If you can keep your greys in a different room from where the work is going to be done..and which has a window to give them some fresh air..then I guess it would be fine. Anyway, 5 days isn't too long. If theres no option, you cn just take them to your friend/neighbor/relative's place during the day and get them back home by night.

The sound must be his beak grinding! Or just wing flapping. Don't worry. I don't think its anything serious if hes normal otherwise.. Check that his droppings are normal and food and water is clean, healthy and regular.
-
Why don't you leave them free in your room or something instead?? Or just make or buy a bird stand and leave them out. As for the feathers, you'll just have to wait till they grow back...make sure you give them proper food and water. Include fresh fruits and veggies too!

Hey guys..Thanks a lot for your help...Well..my grey is completely alright.. I didn't manage to find any kind of detergent here...neither did I take her to the vet coz I heard pretty bad stories of the vet around here!! I actually saw her getting normal in 2 days and now the oil isn't there either and my bird is completely normal. Thank God!!
-
Is it actually some "thing" under the beak?? To me it looks like your grey just lost some feathers and this must be her body that you can see...Because that's wat I used to worry about before and I realized that it was nothing but a few feathers which weren't there and was jus the parrots skin!

If you think shes just preening and you don't find any feathers on the floor, then its fine. Atleast shes not feather plucking. As for the new feathers. They will take a few weeks/months (1-2 months) to grow back completely. But it should be harmful. You have nothing to worry about if ur TAG is playful, eating well and if the droppings are normal.

This is pretty normal..especially if he has been clipped.. As long as you don't find him playing with his big feathers or lots of big feathers on the floor..its ok..all greys shed a lot of small feathers and dander...

My parrot fell over a bottle of hair oil and it spilled over her... I think she also drank some of it... Ive sprayed her with lots of water and wiped her body and beak but what do I do....the vet will not open until tomorrow since today is a holiday. Please tell me what do I do..Im so worried..Thanks

There are chances that he may take another one....but there are many instances of greys not accepting any other bird...in that case..u'll have to take care of him...but i think you should give it a try...get the female..dont keep them in one cage but keep her cage next to his...if they start interacting then you can move them both into a bigger cage

Thats great...I wanted to know...is it possible to know the age of the bird from the DNA sample or something?
-
Thats great!! Ive gone through something similar with Miki except that it was 2 months and not weeks!! But anyway...try reching the head after you touch her beak and give her a treat.. she will allow you gradually.. dont go behind the head coz it may scare her..moreover...id suggest, use just one finger instead of your hand...the palm may scare her off ...but u'll obviously have to be very careful not to get nipped :-)
-
So sorry to hear about it....May her soul rest in peace....

If there is someone else who can take care of her..its fine because I think it would be a little scary for her to travel so much. If theres no one you can leave her with- its better if you would take her with you. But I'm pretty sure there would be a nursery or some friend who has birds with whom you could leave her with. I would prefer not to carry her around especially coz its for work and you may not be able to give her enough time anyway...

I wanted to know whether a ring on the foot of the parrot is a requirement in all countries (mainly Australia, USA, Europe and Canada). Since I adopted Miki, she doesnt have a ring and I don't know her background. Im staying in Muscat now but will travel to these countries soon. I wanted to know if theres anyway I can get her licensed/registered with the ring. Please let me know if any of you know about it...thanks

After 3 months of patience, Miki finally let me cuddle and pat her completely...she actually put her head down and let me pat her head properly and allowed me to pat the entire body!! felt like cuddling a cat! I was actually scared that maybe shes sick and thats y she allowed me to touch her!! (any thoughts on this??) well...so much for all that happiness. By today morning...she got back to her normal self and didnt let me touch anything but her beak!!! I hope shes alright! But she still doesnt step up..How do i get her to do that??? While patting her, i tried to get her on my hands but she completely bent down and wudnt let my hands reach her feet..any suggestions?

Ive had Miki for over 3 months now and she still doesnt step up.. I try using the stick and she does step up on it but immediately gets back on her perch (like in 2 seconds). Nowadys, even when i hold the stick, she just pushes it away. If i try with my hand-she tries to bite. what do i do? I cant even lure her with food. She just throws it away!

I was just wondering..does your bird stay in the cage or on a perch most of the time? My CAG is around 4 yrs old and ive had her for only 3 months now. I think shes probably captive because she seems pretty wild and doesnt speak or mimic any sounds. I keep her on the perch all day. She hates the cage.. I was just thinking..would it be better to put her in the cage and let her adjust to it.or should i just leave her on the perch??

You know...This sounds exactly like Miki(my CAG). I got her 3 months back and is around 4 yrs old. I used to be really scared of her bite...But by reading a lot about their body language..I could make out when she didnt want me to touch her: 1. First of all..make sure if she likes to be in the cage or does she prefers staying out. (miki hates the cage..she gets really wild and scared when in the cage..so only when she's out..she lets me touch her) 2. By now..you must be knowing what food she likes best.. Like in my mix of food.. Miki likes peanuts the best. So I stopped putting the peanuts in her fruit bowl and would give her peanuts only by hand. 3. Once she starts accepting food from your hand... try and bribe her..I keeP the peanut in one hand...and I stick only 1 finger out (shes scared of the hand so im allowed only to stick one finger ouT!) AND THEN i TELL HER.."Let me pet u" and very slowly and gently I pat her beak..after a few days I touched her head..but not petting..she doesnt allow that yet..its just a 1 secoond touch. 4. when do u have to be careful?? - look out for her moving her head away from your hand.. and look out for any feathers fluffing out..and any growling noises. If shes quiet and is sitting confortably..then go ahead..give your finger..dont be scared. 5. Lastly..trust her..even if she does give you a bite (i got one or 2 but they were just nips- so didnt hurt at all)...dont move away. In fact..keep your finger right there..just a little far and keep moving it ahead. If you get scared and take it away..it will encourage her to bite you..And dont lose hope..it will happen in some time..You just have to be patient..
-
thats great..Wish you all the best...
-
Wow....that sure is encouraging...I thought Im the only one who has ever waited so long to gain the trust of my baby!! :-) Thanks a lot..
-
Yea..I think she's a CAG too..Im not sure if shes out of the wild or not because I adopted her from a pet shop and the guy who gave her to me didnt mention that! her perch is big enough to climb and there are ropes too..its just difficult to keep her occupied with something all the time ..so she end up tearing papers, breaking plastics and tearing cloths which i leave for her to play with!! I dont know what else can make her play on a perch..she drop everything down!Shes pretty much safe out of the cage since we dont have any fans and she doesnt like to get off the perch..she doesnt really fly...I hope she does start letting me touch her soon..thanks a lot for your advice
-
Thanks...thats exactly what i did...I felt its too inhumane to tame her by keeping her in the cage..thanks a lot...will keep trying while shes outside..
-
wow..thats amazing that you've build such a good relationship with her so soon..Really happy for you..all the best!

I recently met this guy at a pet store who works for the national geographic as well.. I asked him to give me a few tips on how to train Miki...he asked me if she growls..and i said yes...and then he tells me that shes a Timneh and not a CAG!!! is iut true thatt CAG's dont growl and only timneh's do? Im pretty sure this one is a CAG..The guy from another pet store told me that and she just dark grey but not as dark as the pictures of the timneh's I have here,...she also has a bright red tail!! Just wanted to confirm about the growling bit... Also, I let Miki hang around on her perch all day and night.. She hates the cage..But this guy told me that you wil have to keep her in the cage and give her food only by hand...thats the only way to tame her!! I think that wud scare Miki off...what do I do..Its a month now and she still growls when we get too close..She does take food when I give her..but just sometimes..should I try keeping her in the cage or should I leave her on the perch..?? thanks in advance for your help..

I got Miki one and a half month back. She makes all different sounds that she had learnt earlier I guess..but she yet doesnt mimic my whistles or doesnt speak. She must be around 3 or 4. Do you think she will ever talk or even mimic our sounds.. She is kind of alone for around 10 hours a day. I can only leave the music on for her. I do leave her papers to shred and things she could play with but she generally drops it off or get bored in 10 minutes of giving it to her! Shes not in a cage and is on a perch...so she doesnt even go down to pick it up..Any suggestions on what I can do to keep her entertained..Im a little worried that she shouldnt resort to feather plucking.
