My grey enjoys taking "baths" in her shower. She is a bit of a coprophagic! Every time I change her water, which is daily, I see poop in her water. I am not certain as to why she does this because this cannot be good. I've seen her nibble on her dried poop as well. This is a behavior with dogs not birds. What should I do?

Hi my bird Socrates just turned 1 years old about a month ago. She is beginning to make a lot of noise that sounds awfully like human sounds. She constantly speaks to herself but it sounds like gibberish. When a guest comes over, I try to ask her to talk but she gets very shy and does not speak a word. Her squeaks and squeals kind of sound like the noise around her but nothing distinct. For example, her dog barks sound more like dog whines. Perhaps it is me but I keep on hearing her making a sound that vaguely sound like "hello". This is my first CAG baby, so if anyone have experience with raising a CAG, please let me know if Socrates' behavior is the beginning of mimicking human speech?

My Congo African grey just turned 1 yrs and now she has become a lot more talkative. As I expected, she is the loudist in the morning. She barks around 5am and I have three actual dogs. First my pug hears this, and the pug starts a chorus of barking dogs at the crack of dawn. This has affected the sleep of my whole family. Does anyone have any advice? For some odd reason, my CAG barks like the dog she hates most, our pug Nibbler. Nibbler is the pet that gets the most amount of attention of my pets because she is very in your face. Before my CAG had her wings clipped, she would try to pick fights with Nibbler, who is the sweetest dog. Nibbler and my CAG hate each other. Every time Nibbler is close to her cage, our CAG launches full attack and will sometimes fly at her. Nibbler has never growled at anything except for the CAG because she remembered how it bit her ears when they were young. Now, it is full on war and i crate Nibbler if the bird is out and vice versa. So two questions: 1) what can i do about my CAG's barking problem? How do I prevent her from setting off the dogs at 5am? 2) Why does my CAG hate my dog Nibbler? Jealousy? Nibbler is also the least calm of my dogs, so maybe because she is so hyper?

Thank you for the advice. I consulted a bird specialist and he told me to condition them to get used to each other ex, have them together under supervision and give them treats. I don't think it is a good idea. What do you guys think?

We have an african grey congo that we've had since it was 5weeks old. Right now she is about 8 months old and she hates our pug, who is blind in one eye. We did not clip her wings until we saw her attacking our large Pyrenees so we decided that it was best for her to get clipped. My main concern is our pug who is blind and my CAG launches herself at her face. This is very bazaar. I figured the problem would be he larger animal not the smaller. She is dog aggressive although she grew up with them and should be used to them by now. On a side note, she does not hate our cats. I think it is because our cats are really calm and never run around the house. The cats can be an inch from her and she would not attack them but she seems to hate the dogs. She especially hates our pug the most because she is the most rambunctious.

Okay. I think my african grey has a pooping problem. It poops on me every time I pick it up. It also poops on its food and will eat it shortly after. I feed her Harrisons High Potency and don't think it is nutritional deficiency. Otherwise she is a smart bird. What should I do? I want her to potty train her so I say poop every time she poops but I dont think she is getting it. Also, I don't think she knows her name even though I've managed to teach her colors. I say Tezy and no response...not even a glance. Help!

My Cag smells like rubbing alcohol? She has never been around anything and her cage is pretty clean why does she smell weird? Does anyone have this issue?

Help! my African grey baby is attacking our family pug!

I've had my dog tied to a chair while the grey is out but our CAG still attacks her. I think the attacks are offense rather than defense. I say this because she tried to attack the pug while I was holding the pug in my arms.. I was also told by a vet to put the bird back in its cage and say no to teach her that it is not okay but now she hates the cage. So... yeah is there any other way? I even contacted the audubon society and they recommended squirt guns. I think the bird likes taking showers. I think she just hates the dogs for some reason... ??? I dont want to clip her wings right now because I've read that it is bad if done before a year old. Instead, I would like to teach her not to attack the dogs rather than clipping her wings as a long term solution but have no idea what to do to change her attitude toward the dogs. She isn't doing it because she is scared. She is doing it because she hates them and enjoys messing with them. I say this because she will dive bomb them when they are all resting on the floor. Oh yeah.. She also eats furniture! Thats another problem. We have an entertainment unit on our wall that costed me an arm and a leg. Now, the bird has chewed holes on the top. It is hard to reach her when she is on top of the unit. I always have to grab a ladder and its always too late by the time i get there. So.. yeah i really dont want to clip her wings but Im also running out of ideas on that one. -
Help! my African grey baby is attacking our family pug!

I'm not so sure Tezy is smart when it comes to self defense. She doesn't understand that other animals are bigger. Maybe she is slow on finding the pecking order. The bird is fearless! I read that greys were shy and scared easy. This is not Tezy. She likes to fly on guests and dive bomb our big dog. She doesn't seem to like dogs who runs around her. I think she is very friendly with the cats bc they don't ever come too close or jump near her. Now I don't let the pug and bird out at the same time. Don't you think 4 months is too young to show aggression? -
Okay so it seems like our four month old Cag attacks our pug puppy when she comes out. I thought it was playing when she dive bombs the dogs. But today she flew and landed on the pug's head and viciously biting the crap out of the dog!! Our dog yelped and whimpered so I grabbed the dog and the bird flew away! Why is she doing this at such a young age? The pug is the most active of our dogs and she does not do this to the others. What should I do? I've kept them separate for the most part. Is there any way of changing her animosity?

Here is my photos of Socrates recently and as a baby. She is 4.5 months old here. I got her from a breeder when she was 5 weeks old...and still hand-feeding. I have more pictures from my iphone that I have yet to upload.. I am also trying to teach her colors. Her favorite pastime is cuddling with me. Strange for a CAG but pretty awesome! here is a link to us practicing colors! http://youtu.be/Knodi29w-6A Enjoy! Tell me what you think

I have a 4 month old grey that I've had since it was 2 months. She is a bit different from other greys. She is not afraid of anything. She has recently decided to entertain herself by flying really close to our dogs' head. This is really dangerous since one of our rescue dogs is not the friendliest to other pets. I try to keep them separated but she likes to scare the dog when it is sleeping. She has learned to fly very well but I don't think she understands that the dog is 66lbs more than her. Can anyone help? She also enjoys chasing them and having them barking at her. For the most part, they have come to ignore her but sometimes she takes things too far. Also, I understand that greys are smart but mine just learned colours. I play touch x colour. Hahah she knows red, blue, yellow, and green. She also recognize the colours in different object eg red shirt vs red toy. This seems unusual. Oh yes did I mention she likes to cuddle with cats? This bird is very different from the descriptions on african grey. It is not scare of anything, loves to cuddle, will eat anything or anything I am eating... And loves to freak out the other pets bc she knows they are kinda scared of her. So comments... I am a bit of a novice when it comes to African grey ownership. Any well intended comments or advice is always welcomed!
