  1. Well, it has been a while since I have visited this website. I now have been having my 3 yr. old grey for 8 mo. now. She was 3 when I got her. Her breeder owns a pet shop. Hence, she spent the first 3 years of her life building a vocabulary taught to her by the customers of the pet shop. Well, needless to say, I was suprised. I can afford to laugh because I don't have children. What a hoot.

Since I purchased her I also purchased an Illiger's macaw: one of the miniature macaws. She was handfeed also. However, she seems to have a bit of a bite at times. I did read that -aka- blue wing macaws have that tendence. Do any of you readers know this to be a fact? I would be interested in hearing from you.

  2. I have many cut off sleaves from old flannel shirts. Perhaps putting these together could help to creat some sort of scavaging time?
  3. Cackatoos need plenty of attention. I have a goffin cocaktoo, the smallest of the cockatoos. Frabitzio plucks herself, because, so say, I gave it too much attention and now seems to have developed a separation anxiety complex. She wakes me up at 5:30 AM and insist that we go to bed between 7:45 and 8:15 pm. She wakes up the household: me and the other 4 birds. I love her dearly, but it is as though she is my mate, or else. There are definitely two sides to this coin and both of them being at the extremes.
  4. Belonging to the Grey Forums is so different from other bird forums. Everyone seems to be so much more active, somewhat, like the greys they own. At the risk of stating the obvious, it would seem that different personalities are attracted to different bird types.

MY point here being: A teacher "friend" called me a "bird freak" when I got my 5th bird, and that I go no place now because of the birds. I said that I was happy sitting home with my flock.

  5. Thanks for the response, guys. I seached "womack," but nothing came up, so I put out the threat.
  6. I was invited to their Saturday Webinar. It lasted 1.25 hrs. I'd like to hear from others on this subject.
  7. I heard through another breeder about a 3 year old hand feed grey that spent the last 2.5 years in its owners' pet shop near where my parents used to live. Last Sunday I took a ride and, yes, made a commitment to come back on Monday and purchase it. So say, it's a male, and, yes, it is 3 years old, handfed, and hand trained. Tuxedo and I are making large gains every day. He has a very large cage. The other birds show much interest. The female g. cockatoo likes to scratch its head. It's all a work in progress. A teacher friend now calls me a bird freak. I take it as a compliment.
  8. Has anyone heard of the Womack Brothers? Is their bird training program: cd's, dvd, etc. worth the money?

  9. Wow! What great and fast responses. Please give me more. It helps me to have the confidence I need and sets the timing for what to expect.
  10. My CAG is 3 yrs. old, hand feed and step-on-finger trained with original owner of pet shop. He does step onto my hand, at times with some reluctuance. I am working with this. Question: What does it mean when my grey rolls his neck in 360 degrees when I near the cage? Idea: Letting me know that he does not want to be touched or made to perch? Other than this, when he is on my hand, I gently rub his neck and head and he ooooo's like a owl. Is this a natural CAG sound for pleasure? I already have a G.cockatoo, a cockatiel, a green cheek conure, and a parakeet, hence, I am not a novice to birds, but am a novice with greys.
  11. My heart goes out to you. JUst don't give up.
  12. Why do we human, who love birds so much, always seem to live so far away from each other. I find it refreshing and energy building to simply read the dialogue between people who genuinely care for birds. My kind of people. ch
  13. I want to thank everyone for their caring support. Yes, I did visit with the two birds and the breeder yesterday; however, I did not buy either of them. There were two many unanswerable questions, and a few somewhat vague answers. I think that the breeder was being very genuine, but I am a one person family and would have no time to take off to run a special needs bird to an a/vet, nor would I have the $'s since I am just a poor school teacher. lol. I was exhausted at the end of my decision. I took everything out of me. They were just so very, very gentle and loving. In short, it was a painful decision. They ultimately will stay with her and her other birds. So be it. ch
  14. I feel that I must add the facts that I am not a new bird owner. I have a goffen cociatoo, a yellow sided green check conure, a cockatiel, and a budgie. I am also an advid reader on birds. I will check out the birds tomorrow and make a decision with my head, hopefully, plus a little of my heart thrown into the mix. IN closing, I may be a new member to this very large group of bird lovers, but in no way am I a new bird owner. (Man, I surely wish that we still had bird shows in New Orleans!) ch
  15. Breeder: She has told me that two babies out of 3 tilt their heads when they are tired. She had a vet look at them. He said that it might be a weak muscle. Should I stay away from purchasing one? Has anyone ever heard of this type of problem?
