  1. Yep, Fergie does the same, they aren't stupid, LOL
  2. Fergie, is the same way she digs me the most, then my daughter, she is a bird person, she has a bunch of doves, her and I are the two people she lets pet her, but my daughter only visits, my wife and my other 2 stepdaughters she treats way different, as they are somewhat afraid of her, but we are working on it
  3. another suggestion if you decide not to use Kayode is to think of famous people you like, such as actor, singer, someone you idolize or respect just brain storm write down different names, even stupid ones as sometime the stupid leads to something else Good luck
  4. I am Sorry to hear I didn't know, as I am an Eastwood fan myself.
  5. I travel to Chicago for work and since I have no wheels when I am in the hotel have to rely on public transportation, people pretty much keep to themselves, but there are MANY and I say MANY unruly kids on the trains and busses these will be your biggest problem. I would suggest you disguise the carrier to avoid unwanted attention, but if the bird makes any noise that obviously will, but people are usually pretty decent all in all
  6. Well Fergie, get her name in two ways the first is that when we looking for a Grey all the names we liked had been used and we wanted something different, we searched bird names and African grey name sites, but all the same, so my wife asked what is my favorite female singer, I replied Fergie from the BEPs, and then since my wife's family is from the UK I wanted some for her too since there was Sarah Ferguson, boom Fergie it is .

    Stolen

I am sorry to hear about your loss of Nova, If you already haven't try the other pet sites such as Hoobly, also check pawn shops, really people do stupid stuff, bird theft from a pet store isn't all that uncommon, when I was in High school the pet shop I worked at someone tried to steal the shops Macaw, the guy got the bird on his shoulder and was walking out the mall with it, the security guard knew he wasn't for sale and questioned the guy, he said he just bought him, so he ended up in a people cage. my friends store had a lady try to sneak a cockatoo out under her coat. most pet stores typically have minimal theft due to the specialty of their business and they are typically a small business, and why no security cameras, like someone else said, the thief probably has been in there numerous times, you might want to watch for people who come in the store who normally don't buy parrot food and supplies, as they will most likely be in again because they feel comfortable as they got away with it once and thieves tend to do that. they can even be subtly be questioned like Oh Mr. Jones I didn't know you had a bird, what kind do you have, ect... Hope you find Nova!!!!

    Burp?

Me too, and working for the railroad doesn't help either,LOL
  9. I think after what I saw this weekend his idea is pretty do-able, we traveled to Indiana for Easter, we had to get some stuff from my wife's brothers father-in- law, he has an enclosed cage for his conures, it is 6' x 3' x 3'. The front is all plexiglas the sides are half cage and the bottom part is plexiglas, the back is wood with trunks and branches, the sides open up for cleaning, and the food cups sit in a stump and it has avian lights on top is is framed in wood, looks like a piece of furniture, I know he had it custom made, he couldn't remember who made it or the cost, as he is 82. I didn't have much time to look to see what the trunks and stump was made out of, but it is something to think about.

    Burp?

IDK know much on the previous owners but from the the first day I have had Fergie, when she is finished eating she burps, yesterday was her third week here, she also farts, or as the wife says toots. When she burps, I say do you feel better, yesterday morning one my teenage girls burped and Fergie said do you feel better.LOL
  11. IDK about where you live but some localities require a brick wall separating the living area from the kiln and hot work areas in case of a fire, so an area away from the house might be a good idea for that alone.
  12. YW I spent 10 years in the Coast Guard and still volunteer for the Auxiliary Thanks for the warm welcome
  13. Ok, well her name is Fergie, she is about 2 and half years old, have had her about 3 weeks, she very talkative, love to be scratched, for some reason doesn't really play with her toys. Me, I worked at a pet store while in high school and collage they had a Grey there, wanted one ever since, had a mitred conure for about 15 years never knew how old he was, so I am not totally new to birds, also have a degree in animal science, worked as a zookeeper for a few years, went into the military, had a family now the kids are older, we decided it was now time to get one, now that I have some time to spend on one, learned a few things like what she likes and dislikes, we also have a cockatiel never realized a bird would be jealous of another bird, didn't realize birds did that, and the wife too she sometimes gets jealous of the bird too LOL, will post some pics here soon, I have done a little bit of exploring on the forum so far so good thanks for the welcomes!!!!
