  1. I love my birds. I have 3 of them (TAG, Green Aracari, Brown-headed). But, I love cats. I've wanted one for twenty years. I will have a 3 month old cat living with me in 6 weeks. I plan to keep the cat in my bedroom (its large) when I am not home (the birds are in the living room). I know I need to keep an eye on everything while the cat is out. I'm going to keep the birds inside their cages when the cat is out. I'm not worried about the cat actually killing the birds, more the stress the cat will cause them. My TAG grew up in a house with a cat before I adopted her. I figure she'll be okay. Any advice is welcomed.
  2. Hello, She is constantly out of her cage. I meant to say she moves to the back of the top of the cage. We went through the "honeymoon" stage. I coaxed her out of that by offering her seeds to step up. That worked well. But now, however, she's not even interested in that. There was a point where she was shedding a lot of feathers (not plucking). It seems that has stopped but she is still distant.
  3. My Tag used to love stepping up. Now she'll wants no part of it. She still likes me in the same room, but has no desire to step up to my hand. When I stand up to walk over to her, she moves to the back of the cage. This has been going on for a few months.
  4. I've had my TAG for 8 months. I believe she is about 7 years old. She is a great bird, but only now starting to come along. She steps up about 90% of the time and vocalizes when I leave the room. I'm just posting this to say that rescuing is the way to go. I know her former owners didn't abuse her, but I love her so much more than they did. If you can provide love (and toys) for a bird, why not take one off the hands from someone who can't?
  5. Hello, in the 6 months I've had her, my TAG has broken 3 flight feathers. She is not plucking at all, but I don't know if this is normal. She is not crashing into walls or floors. I have no idea how this last one happened. She was aggressively playing in her water bowl this afternoon though.
  6. So I get there and the TAG is in the tree! This bird seems to live a great life. Even if I planned to take it, I wouldn't as I could not provide for this bird like the current owners do. I think I talked the owners into keeping him.
  7. Alright. I have two potential homes lined up. Both with prior Grey experience.
  8. No, no earrings. But I think there's something to the attention thing.
  9. I'm going to pass on the bird, but work to relocate it. I'm going to meet it this weekend and hopefully find an owner in a week. I hope the bird isn't a sweetheart.
  10. I have two birds. A TAG and a brown headed parrot. I was thinking today that having two birds is a difficult task. Not two hours later, a woman called me and said a couple wanted to give away their CAG. Apparently it bonded to the husband and it's nasty to the kids and wife. I'm a dude and figure it would be okay with me, but I can't handle three. But I want it!
  11. Hello, I have about a 25% success rate with my TAG stepping up. I've had her for 5 months. However, when I'm wearing headphones, the bird wants nothing else than to be picked up. 100% of the time. Once I take off the headphones and return her to her cage, and then try again - she won't step up. Thoughts?
  12. My birds wont touch their veggies. Well, they touch them, but they throw them out of their dishes. I've had quite enough of chopping up carrots, broccoli, etc. if it just ends up on the floor. Isn't Roudybush enough?
  13. No, in fact I'd say she's getting friendlier with me. Her posture is the same.
  14. After about 4 months with me, my 6 year old Timneh is speaking up a storm. However, I've noticed in the last week or so I see she is spending a lot of time staring at the wall. The wall is about 8 inches from the cage. The next closest wall is about 2 feet away. Is this abnormal?
  15. Maybe I should make it clear that she is about 6 years old.
  16. hello all. I've had my TAG for about 10 weeks. When I'm in the room (most of the time), her talking is limited to "want a cracker" "meow" and barking like a dog. However, when I'm in the kitchen doing the dishes, she's talking up a storm. I can't make much of it out as I'm in the other room, but she's probably said 10 more words/phrases. What's up? How can I get her to use her full vocabulary when I'm actually close enough to hear her?
  17. Hello all, I have a 6 year old rescue TAG. I've had her for about 8 weeks. I've noticed over the last few days her talking has increased dramatically, but she no longer wants to step up. I've been trying to get her to talk more by giving her a seed every time she says something. I don't know if this would make her less holdable. Also, I have another parrot in the same room. For the first month, they were in different rooms and have been at opposite sides of my rectangular living room ever since. The first three weeks or so of cohabitation didn't seem to bother the TAG. I don't know if this is it or not. I have been giving her plenty of time to sleep. When I leave the room, the TAG will start talking and whistling. I assume she wants my attention. However, unlike my other bird (brown headed parrot), this does not equate to her wanting to be on my finger, just in the same room. Is this typical? She is not biting me, just nipping at me when I put my finger up to her chest. Any advice is appreciated.
  18. It looks like I should just go with King's. All USA made cages seem to be much more expensive than their foreign made counterparts. If it's one thing I know, it's buy what you really want.
  19. Hello, I'm looking for at least one knew cage. I want to buy USA. Besides King's Cages, what are my options?
  20. My 6 year old TAG that I've had for four weeks pays no mind to her toys, however she loves chewing on newspaper. I thought Greys loved their toys? I'm willing to bet she's still getting used to things. Like I said, I've only had her a month. She's plenty friendly (when she wants to be), but I thought I'd be on round two of toys by now, instead they remain untouched. I know what you're thinking. I shouldn't have changed out her toys from her previous home. Well, maybe, but they were in bad shape. Everything was covered in poop. I just tossed it all out.
  21. I've noticed that my TAG will only be handled in the late afternoon/evening. She is not a morning bird!
  22. Her name is Ginger. I was thinking Penelope, Persephone, or Gwendolyn.
  23. May I suggest a brown-headed parrot. I have one and he could not be a better bird. He doesn't talk, but he has a lot of personality and is very loving.
