  1. Funny you mention that...I used to live in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago and the CTA Blue (now Pink) line was pretty much in my backyard. At first I thought it would bother me, but after a few nights there, it was like nothing to me.
  2. Thank you both for the advice! I figured I was making a mountain out of a molehill, but I just wanted to voice my concern. I figure that if I don't make a huge deal about the noise my baby should be ok.
  3. I'm bringing home my baby in about a month (I'm so excited and pretty nervous, too)!!! There is one concern (among many) that I would like to get opinions on. I live in an apartment and there are train tracks about two blocks away. The Amtrak uses those rails, but there are mostly freight trains that go by. They go by both during the day and night, intermittently sounding their horns as they pass. Personally, I find it weirdly soothing and it actually sometimes helps put me to sleep (I was in the Navy and stationed on a ship, so I'm used to loud noises at weird hours ), but I am worried about what it will do to my future Grey, especially in those early days and weeks (will the train noises scare the baby and cause him to be nervous?). I was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or can offer me any suggestions on anything I can do to alleviate any nervousness or fear caused by these noises. Should I be so concerned? I don't want my baby to grow up traumatized. Thanks!
  4. She sure is a cutie, and looks very sweet, too!
  5. Roxie is adorable and I love the hat!
  6. I live in southern Illinois and the baby is in Tennessee, near Nashville. I will actually be meeting the breeder halfway when the baby is ready to come home.
  7. Hello and thank you for the warm welcome! I have had birds before, but never an African Grey. I had a Parakeet when I was much younger (then again, who didn't? ) and a Cockatiel. I am very excited about welcoming the baby into my home. As I said before, I took care of an African Grey for about a month. This was a long time ago, and I have been wanting to have one join me for about 15 years! I look forward to learning a lot on this forum, and I'll be sure to post some pics of the baby as soon as I can.
  8. Hello! I'm a newbie here. I am bringing my first CAG home in a month and a half and am extremely excited. I have been wanting to welcome an African Grey into my home for the past 15 years, ever since I took "Chico" home for a month in high school. Chico was awesome! She would laugh with us as we watched sitcoms on the TV and would give me kisses on the cheek. I really enjoyed playing with her and was amazed at her intelligence, curiosity, and affection. Now I'm waiting for my baby to be weaned. I am very, very excited and just a little bit nervous (is that normal?). I've been reading up on African Greys and, I must admit, have been lurking on this forum a bit! I finally signed up and wanted to say hello. I am sure that I will enjoy being a part of this community and I will learn a lot from others.
