@greyturky, Judy, Thanks for the advice. Your birds are very beautiful. I used to have a cocatiel named Cali that looks just like your Gypsy. Sadly my beloved Cali flew away 5 years ago. I have always loved birds and miss her very much. So thats why I recently got Angel my Tag. I also have a sun conure named Sunny! Which I got 2 weeks ago while out buying some food for Angel at Petsmart. He/she is a year old. He actually knows how to say "Good Parrot" and "what, what, what?" He can also beep like my alarm, make kissing sounds and laugh. He likes to laughs at Angel to tease him when they're together, he sometimes takes his treats, or laughs when Angel falls in his cage. I always tell him that's not nice to laugh at Angel. They both have so much character.

Hello everybody, My Angel is 4 months old, I've had him for about 3 weeks now. He is such a sweetheart and is adjusting to his new home very well. He plays with his toys, and seems to be having a good time. Our bonding is going well also based on; He will step up, enjoyes being out the cage, he doesn't bite me anymore, He allows me to touch him in certain places. And he always squawks to get my attention when he sees me or hears my voice. I want to start training him to do some tricks and to talk. And was wondering around what age is the best to start training? As far as vocalization goes he is pretty quiet through out the day unless he's calling for me. I talk to him everytime I pass by his cage and he responds with a little sqealing. I've heard that if greys mumble or vocalize throughout the day they our most likely the ones that will talk. Angel practices vocalizing probably about once or twice a day for about 5 mins. He makes all kinds of sounds and mumbles like he's trying to talk. It's really funny and exciting to hear, until he starts making growling sounds which can be a little scary :-) I set up his cage in my living room close to our t.v which he likes to watch. Is their other things I can do to encourage him to talk? I was considering buying some of the training cds but I'm not sure they really work.

My baby is finally home! Im so excited and happy my baby TAG Angel home. I went to visit him and I was told I could take him home. This is day three so I'm just taking my time trying to get to know him. The first day I just took it easy I let him get use to his cage and surroundings. He is not fully weaned yet so in the evening I did my first hand feeding, it went well. I give him 2 feedings a day one in the morning and one before he settles for the night. When I picked him up from the pet store they gave me a small amount of formula and a big bag of seed mix and some vitamins in powder form which I mix in his formula. I plan to cut back on the seeds and start him on a good pellet I'm considering Harrisons or another organic pellet. He seems to be adjusting fine, but I do have a few concerns. He is very quiet, he just sits for a long period of time and just grinds his beak and preens. He has new toys that he does not show any interest in. My house can be loud and quiet at times. I have a 1 and a 3 year old and screaming, crying and loud playing is the norm around here except when they are at school half the day. The noise does not seem to have any effect on Angel. He just sits there neck feathers puffed out on one leg and his beak just grinds away he also will close his eyes. I plan to take him to a avian vet on monday to make sure he is in good health. Im a little worried because he is not active nor does he vocalize much. He wont make a sound only when I tell him to step up I hear a very short and quiet squawk or mumble when I offer my hand. I was told that he is between 12 and 14 weeks old. I wonder if I got a quiet bird that will stay this way, or if he will start to be more active as he gets older. He will step up for me when he is in his cage. He will not step up willingly when he is on top of his open play top cage which I think is his favorite place to sit. I will have to remove him and put him back into the cage so he can eat and drink water other wise he will not move and hours will go by. Is this something I should be worried about?... Or any suggestions?

Wanting another bird- Thinking about Umbrella Too?
Angel-TAG replied to ZephyrDarkwolf's topic in Other Birds
I wouldn't necessarily say I love the CAG more. I still want my TAG and I'm willing to work on gaining his trust no matter what. I know it will take a lot of patients, love and proper handling and i will give that to him. He is special to me and is a beautiful bird just the way he is. I've been around since they both were 8 weeks old, and watched them grow together. I love my TAG I think about him everyday that I'm not with him. I don't think my TAG hates me he's just a baby. He will step up & sometimes he doesnt want to get down. Sometimes he don't want me to touch him and I can respect that. The CAG on the other hand is not up for adoption they are at a pet store. Like I said in my previous post I never paid much attention to the CAG because when I come to visit the employee will just hand me my TAG. And the other bird would stay in the cage... Well one visit I had the pleasure of spending time with both because they were out when I arrived. The CAG ammediatly came up to me to get my attention. And she sometimes was a little jealous when I was showing my bird attention and not her. She would kinda push my Tag out the way if I was giving him to much attention. She is a very sweet bird and I think she picked me. I feel bad that who ever put the deposit down does not come to bond or spend time with her. I don't know the persons reason but they are definitely missing out right now. I wish I could give them both a good home and keep them together. So I told the store owner I will gladly take her to if the person doesnt show up to get her or change their mind. But who ever gets her will be happy and I hope she will be too. Because I am happy with my decision to get my baby TAG! -
Wanting another bird- Thinking about Umbrella Too?

I've been visiting my TAG at the pet store he's not fully weaned but will be in a couple weeks. Anyhow there is a CAG that has been nesting and now caged with my baby TAG. Ive never paid much attention to the other bird, but on my visit a week ago I totally fell in love with the other bird. My tag is a little nippy and doesn't like me to handle it much... They were both out the cage and the Cag keep walking up to me wanting to step up and me to scritch his head and neck, while my bird was trying to run away and not be touched. The bird is also beautiful I think it is a red factor because its feathers are grey with light pink on the tips on its back. I would gladly buy this bird the only problem is someone put a deposit on it right before I put my deposit on my tag. I haven't gave up on my tag I think he will come around. And Im still looking forward to bringing my tag home But I am so in love with the Cag. While visiting today I just found out the person that put the deposit down hasn't been seen since. I visit once a week to bond with my bird. So if they change there mind Im willing to bring both home :-) -
Hello it's Shante again, thanks for all the advice. Wow each grey has it's own unique personality. I do agree acting like it does not hurt doesn't seem it will solve the biting problem. My grey isn't home yet so I have much to learn about my Tag. You know when I was at the pet store that day when I got beaked. One of the employees also got bite but he was actually bleeding. And my grey is just a few weeks old (8) and can deliver a painful bite. Anyhow when he bit the employee the employee immediately pick up the bird (which it didn't like because it started squawking) he told the bird eye to eye no biting in a firm voice. And the bird stop the aggressive behavior just like that. So I started gently patting him again which he liked. After a few mins he gave me a bite the employee came back over and kind of gently put his hand around his head and gave him a little knudge and said no biting and the bird stopped trying to bite me. His advice was you have to be gentle and smooth but show him that biting is not acceptable. He told me I have to be in control and assert that I'm the boss while still being gentle and gaining it's trust. My bird would fuss a little the employee held him upside down and said calm down. And to my surprise I was sure more bites would come and the bird would not want to be handle in all these strange ways, but it actually worked almost as if the bird liked to be gently ruffed up a little. Because it would go back to being the cute sweet baby bird that wanted to be cuddled. Instead of squawking and biting. I will actually be going to vist my Tag today or tomorrow, i can't wait to see how big it's got, he's growing fast, and I also can't wait to bring my grey home. I'm sure we will get over the biting and enjoy each other.

Hello my name is Shante. I will be a new owner of a TAG soon, and I am sooooo exited. My baby is still weaning at the pet store. Today I went to visit my baby for the 4th time. And to my surprise my baby chomped down on my finger twice. I was surprised that such a little bird could give such a powerful bite. My baby is only 8 weeks old. One of the employees told me it was going threw it's "teething stage" and assured me it will stop. But I'm not quite so sure...any advice on if this persist? It likes to be handled and played with...the bird doesn't seem unhappy, It just seems to be testing out it's bite. After it chomps down with full force it won't let go unless distracted. Has any one else gone through this?
