  1. Here are a few pics of my CAG I was able to feed him sunflower seeds from my hand today (it's only day 3 !!)
  2. Today he started eating and preening himself which is a good sign I suppose
  3. Thanks for the replies everyone. I am planning on ordering a book on training parrots, Can any of you tell me if the clicker training method is good? (and what method did you use?)
  4. Hi guys! Today the guy at the pet shop called me and told me that he now has 4 CAGs and if I go today than I could have my pick. Out of the four CAGs I chose the one that wasn't screaming at the top of it's lungs when I approached it. I now have him in my room but he's being really wierd: He's growling at me when I get too close(which is understandable) and he sounds like a dog:confused: I'm still trying to decide if my CAG is a male or a female, but for now I'm calling him Miko (unisex name) However, my older sister insists on naming him Pixie (which is NOT going to happen).I'll post some pictures later as he's still settling in and I don't want to make him even more scared of me. How long should I wait before starting to tame him? BTW, his iris is a of a white-ish yellow color, but the salesman told me he was 1.5 years old Regards Joe
  5. When I tell people that I have birds as pets, they just laugh; they think that these creatures are nothing but brainless food consuming dust and feather shedding animals I'm used to those reactions now and I'm even more used to the reaction that comes after: [ Me: Look at this pic of me and my budgie (with him on my shoulder) Them: Wow! how can you get them to do this? ] most of the times people aren't aware of the capability of these animals. It's not that they hate birds, it's just that they're ignorant.....and naturally humans tend to criticize and dislike what they ignore I am a bird enthusiast and I am proud of it! And to be honest, a bird is worth a thousand cats or hamsters !
  6. The birds sold haven't been owned by anyone before as they are imported from Nigeria (again according to the salesman, but I'd much rather leave this subject till I get the bird, then we will be able to determine his age as most salesmen lie ) I can provide a month of 100% quality time with my bird everyday in my townhouse. After that I will try and change my program so that I'm in the country-house Tue(pm)-Thu(pm)-Fri(pm)-Sat-Sun and I will leave his cage there. Is that a better situation? Also is it possible that my grey will bond with my mom or dad or the maid and not want to bond with me? (who will be in the country-house when I'm not) [Keep in mind that my mom is scared birds, my dad will only see him briefly Mon(pm)-Wed(pm) and I don't think the maid is going to try and socialize with him ] You have no idea what lengths I'm willing to go to in order to get this bird and provide it's happiness Thank you again Regards Joe
  7. Here's the thing: The grey I'm going to buy is 2 years old (according to the salesman) If I buy him after the summer than I will have no time to socialize with him That's why I want to buy him now so that we can bond over the summer.
  8. Hi guys, I talked to the guy at the pet shop and he promised me that he would have greys by Tuesday. I have been looking forward to getting this new pet and enjoying it's company However I found out that our plans this summer had changed: We have two houses, one in the city and another in a small village. Usually we spend all of the summer at the country-house, but this year things are gonna be different. My sister and I will be staying at both houses this summer while my parents stay at the country-house (hope that makes sens) Mon --> city Tue -->country Wed--> city Thu-->country Fri--> city Sat--> city(till 03:00 pm) Sun-->country I also work during the summer, 5 days a week, from 8:00 to 3:00 So my question is: should I take my grey with me when we have to go to the other house? Or should I just leave him in the townhouse with his cage next to the one of my two budgies? BTW, it is a 35 minute drive between the two houses. (I personally feel that I should take him with me, but I'm afraid that it will unsettle him especially if he's still not used to me by then ) Please Help Regards Joe
  9. thanks for the welcomes guys I have researched them and I ordered a book, but there will always be questions and problems. And if you ask me, the advice of a grey owner is much better than theories and all those articles
  10. Hi guys, My name is Joe, I'm a 17 year old high school student. I live in Lebanon (Jounieh) and have been keeping budgies for a year now. However, I now feel the need for a bigger, smarter, more social pet, which is why I decided to buy an African Grey. I'll be visiting the pet shop on Monday to get my new pet, and I will be needing lots of help from you guys so as of now I apologize if I ask a lot of question and silly ones:confused: First I need some name suggestions for my new pet (I won't be able to tell his sex but let's concider that it's a male) Thank you all Regards Joe
