  1. Just Completed Eva's Play stand! This is to start and I'll be moving it to another location soon....to many things for her to get into by this location, mainly, the thermostat.
  2. Wow...that must be really stressful. But...good news, she's been eating all afternoon now!
  3. I handfed my Eva about once a day at the store and let them do the rest, I was doing really well, and they offered to let me finish at home when she was about 8-9 weeks, but I opted not too. It was my first time hand feeding and I didn't feel confident doing it by myself at home... Before making my decision I did research and found that there are many things that can go wrong if this is not done by a professional. I recommend bringing it back to where you got and find out if you can do what I did and hand feed your baby supervised by a professional. This way you will still get this bonding experience with your bird.
  4. Eva seems to be doing really well on her first day, immediately when I put her in her cage she started playing with her toys, or I should just say one toy, the one in the picture I posted in the previous thread. She is quickly destroying it...lol I'll have to be careful to keep her occupied when I have her out of the cage more because she is definitely a chewer. I had some toys for I purchased for her cage at the store, but they were destroyed by the time she was ready to come home lol. She hasn't really eaten yet, but I see her drinking lots of water. The woman at the store told me it is to be expected that she not eat too much for a day or so. She has the blend she has weaned onto, as well as some cookables that they recommended to me in her cage. She also instructed me to leave her in the cage often for the first week or two, so I only take her out for five minute sessions every hour or so and talk to her often. Her cage at the store was much smaller also and not nearly as tall. Eva is very clumsy in her new cage! I put a towel on the bottom with news paper on top just in case. Overall, I think she's happy to be home with me, I hope she starts eating soon, I bring her back on Sunday to get weighed If she loses 10% of her weight or more than they take her back for a couple more weeks to get her stronger. But they told me that all birds lose some weight when they come home. We have a very busy household and I think Eva has just about met everyone living here and everyone loves her!
  5. I haven't had Eva long enough for her to destroy anything except she's chomping through her new toys already, so I'm sure after a week, when I start having her out of the cage more she'll be a handful. My BB is obsessed with buttons, on computers, laptops, phones, just loves to attack them and rip them off. He sits on the couch with me and my boyfriend while we watch TV and we play hide the remote with him, he usually finds it, but if we hide it too good... He'll start screaming, lol. We bought him a couple infant and toddler phones for his cage which are cool because they talk to him when he tries to take the buttons off! Whenever we are at best buy and we see the keyboards on display with keys missing we always laugh and say BB Chu must have been there shopping recently!
  6. Eva's home! She is having a great time in her new cage so far and has been exploring all her new toys since she got home. Not eating but she's been drinking lots of water since she's been home. Here's he new favorite toy...we'll see how long it lasts: And here she's just hanging out: She seems very comfortable just relaxing and preening herself.
  7. I'm very excited just finished setting up her full spectrum lighting...
  8. Ok I exchanged for the stainless steel.
  9. Is it safe to use Zinc Oxide hooks for a play stand?
  10. I am from Trenton NJ. So I am about 1 hour from NYC, 30 minutes from Philly, 90 minutes from Washington D.C., and 45 minutes from the Jersey Shore.
  11. So I have an appointment to pick up my TAG Eva at 4PM. I originally scheduled it at this time because I thought I would be working today, but I was so excited I found someone to cover my shift for the day! So I might go earlier I'm waiting for a call back to see if we can change the appointment. I couldn't hardly sleep last night and was up at six this morning waiting for the store to open to call them...lol Well, I have a lot of time to kill it looks like so I'm working on finishing up her PVC play stand. Expect lots of pics and updates later!
  12. They are also know as Brotogeris or pocket parrots and originate from South America. They are called BB for short of Brotogeris I guess? There are a few different types, but the Canary Wing BB is the most common. They are not parakeets at all, but are often referred to as such. Great companions, and all very friendly. I recommend them for a smaller bird companion.
  13. I'm really glad to hear that because my TAG will be next to my BB as well. I hope they get along, I'm more worried about my BB chu more than EVA, he can be quite a bully and is not afraid of anyone or anything. They are such fun birds! Huge personality in a little package. My BB loves to be handled and spends most of his day on my head or shoulder "preening" my hair when I'm home. However, he also can be quite loud when I'm around and leave him in his cage. He's the loudest when he puffs up and "machine guns" me if he's not happy about something! If yours do this you'll know exactly what the machine gunning is! He is also a little over a year old. Do yours talk, I heard they have the capabilities but many don't. BB Chu just started saying "uh OH" and tries to mimic me all the time so I hope he talks eventually, I heard they learn well from other birds so I'm thinking if my TAG talks he might pick it up. I'm glad to hear someone else here has some type of BB as well, I don't find many BB owners out there! They are such huge personalities in little packages and just so much fun. Put some pictures up I would love to see them!
  14. I am bringing home my TAG soon, but also have a Canary Winged BB which I absolutely adore. Does anyone else here have a BB?
  15. So here's the second cage I purchased lol. I wanted one a little larger for my TAG, but like the first one I purchased, they all have 1" spacing in the larger sizes. She will be coming home this week or next so I already put a lot of her toys in and all of her perches. I hope she likes it! I also added two bowls on the bottom of the cage which was recommended to me for when she's still young. Let me know what you think! Is the set up too cluttered? I will be adding a few more toys she has with her now at the store.
  16. Thanks so much, that's all I needed to hear I'll get a 3/4" spacing. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't just being pressured to buy a cage from the store. I really want whats safe so I will be returning the other cage. Thanks so much!
  17. What is the necessary bar spacing for a TAG? Eva will be coming home very soon and I purchased a cage with 1 inch bar spacing online. Here's a picture: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51LLYSvGTvL._AA160_.jpg The dimensions are 36"X27"X56" and again with 1 inch bar spacing. When discussing with the store which cage I had purchased, the woman said that 1 inch spacing is too big for a TAG and she could get her head stuck and strangle. She's trying to sell me on a cage with 3/4 inch spacing that is also nice but about $100 more. I can return the cage I purchased if it is not safe, but I have read many places that 1 inch spacing is fine for a TAG. No one here has steered me wrong yet and I have been very appreciative of your assisting me with my questions. So let me know if this spacing will be safe for my TAG. Thanks in advance for your assistance.
  18. My TAG Eva is costing me $1000.00 here in New Jersey. She's not even home yet and I already think she's worth every penny!
  19. Love the slide show. What type of bird is Blue Berry? A parrotlet? I love the color!
  20. I think so too I just saw a few of them at the bird store yesterday while visiting Eva. They have a few babies and a few on consignment. They're really beautiful birds.
  21. I have to tell you that I was very successful with clicker training my BB parrot. He was very sweet as a young bird, but I will admit I spoiled him rotten and he started biting when I tried to take him from my shoulder or out of the cage. He wasn't scared of me but he would bite me very hard then step up and actually make me bleed! It was more than beaking let me tell you and he would scream too then step up. I used a clicker to train him to step up without biting. However, I used a method a little different from the one you posted check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z-yiDIjn2s. I keep a little cup of crushed cashews by the cage with the clicker at all times and now the biting has ceased. It took only about 1-2 weeks to train him to step up nice no biting. My bird doesn't talk but he mimics the clicks all the time! I also trained him to show me his wings with the command "Pretty Wings" and the clicker.
  22. I love Cosmo's strut.
  23. Here's she's stretching her pretty wings. Pineapple Beak! Her new favorite treat! I had a great visit this morning. Eva for the first time stepped onto my finger out of the cage! She'll be 8 weeks Saturday and is getting big so quick. She was very cute today with her new favorite game I'm gonna call the step up game. She stands on one hand and waves her foot trying to say "step up step up!", so I'll say step up and pick her up with the other hand and she repeats it there. It's pretty funny I think she just likes hearing me say step up. She also broke my heart today...when I tried to put her back in her cage to go after about an hour and a half visit, she cried and cried and wouldn't let go of my hand to step down. When I finally got her off she climbed up the cage and tried to say her "step up step up". It really broke my heart to leave her there. I'll be going back tomorrow morning to see her. I can't wait to take her home, I feel so guilty whenever I leave her after our visits.
