I make one heck of an observer! I can ensure the cups of poop remain blinded and non biased! However, we could create an annual "Avian race for poop!" just for literally.... Poops and Giggles!
-
My grey poops very often. I had no idea until I got my zon. Kiwi, my zon holds his poops if we are driving or if he's on me. Peachy, my grey, drops a turd every 10-20 min! All different sizes with the grey but never as HUGE as the big green dollar coin sized poops from kiwi! In their cages, my zon's cage is cleaner.... Less poop scattered and less dander or Downey feathers. so although the zon's poop is larger, my grey out poops him because of her frequency!! I wonder to properly answer this question, someone should put all daily poops in a cup and measure it in 24 hrs! C'mon, it's fascinating! Any volunteers?!! Lol

My vet told me once kiwi hits his hormones he'll never be the same sweet bird. I was a little sad but I'm not sure if he was trying to discourage me. He's like "sure he's nice now but he'll do a 180 on you...." My grey can be a snot a few times a year but we work thru it. I thought the horrible 4's comment was funny! Thank god if my zon does turn crazy, it won't last forever. That is a funny saying I need to say to my kids! I'm still waiting for the downhill from there with them! Lol

Kiwi clucks when he's happy or stimulated! It cracks me up because his lower beak lowers and his mouth opens like a robot. I love it and click back at him! Then he does it more. It's our secret language. His eyes also pin but he's happy not agitated.

My amazon's feet are cold!

Lol! Kiwis feet are like delicate soft cool hands! I should give him some manual labor and toughen him up! Maybe it is too cold in the house too. Good suggestion. -

Interesting links. I hope feet temperature is not indicative of future issues. His feet look normal with no lesions. Thanks for all that useful info. The allergy cautions are good to know. -
I was just curious if any other zon's in this group have cold feet. Kiwi's feet are cool to the touch. Not freezing but my grey has neutral or warm feet. I know foot necrosis is a concern with amazons but didn't know if this is why. Maybe poor blood circulation in the species? Other than that he's perfect!! I just wanted to ask!

That's too cute! What a little BIG helper!

Get one!! I thought I was the only crazy bird lady with a stroller. It gives me great comfort more of us exist! -

I'm a pharmacist consultant. My job requires me to go to rural nursing homes and mental health facilities for kids/adults. I set up my traveling bird perch at the nurses station. People stroll by and talk to her for hours. Some patients even sing for her! I know Peachy wants to go because in the morning she says "wanna go to work?" she loves the attention. I just have to watch to make sure the staff doesn't grab at her. People get so infatuated, they feel the compelling urge to always touch. Since my grey is not to fond of men, I always have remind them to not stick their fingers in her face!! Lol I just love taking her! She dances in and sings in the car. She likes listening to rock n roll! Kiwi my amazon likes old school country and hip hop!! -

I love this topic! I take my birds almost everywhere. I too have a bird stroller! One time this guy asked to see my baby. You should of seen the look on his face when he looked in! Ha! My grey, peachy, travels with me all over the state to nursing homes. She just loves it. She does well even during long days. She allows me to do all my chart reviews etc. Residents now request her and if she's not there, they get sad. One lady even cried saying she missed her. She has had such a positive impact. Now, kiwi, my amazon travels too. Not as long, but in some ways better than my grey. He's calmer, less spooked by random things, more outgoing with strangers, and curious. He lets others pet and hold him where Peachy is more reserved. I get so excited every day on where to take them next. Both birds love going to music lessons!! -
My male BFA is not loud at all. He mumbles but at a volume way less than my grey. Now, I have heard him yell and it happens rarely. It's usually around 6pm and it sounds like a baby crying! I feel like I have a newborn all over again!

Your zon may not like the competition of another zon. Mine is a total attention hog! Kiwi has to be anywhere I take my grey. He's just more needy. For me, it would be too hard to give a second zon attention because I can barely keep up with the ones I have!!

Great advice. I added another bowl next to the poop bowl. Then, I was so thrilled to see him eat out of it. Then.... After several hrs I went to check on him and the little reascal moved bits of food back into his poop bowl! How crazy is that? It did reduce contamination though so that is progress in my book. I know male amazons are nest protectors. I'm wondering if it's instinct that he protects or sits on the bowl. Moves food into it to keep things cozy?! His behaviors are so interesting. Thank u all for the suggestions. It seems to help.

I love that squeaky baby elf voice! He sounds like a baby. Then my female grey sounds like an old man most of the time!! It's soo funny. I'm really thankful that this amazon forum is on here. There's no groups specific for amazon owners. Amazons get such a negative representation on the Internet. That bothers me. I believe there's mean and nice in any breed of bird. Peachy gets moody during her breeding seasons too. I guess I wanna know is it nature or nurture?!! Lol Oh, I forgot to ask.... If kiwi eats seed/veggies by his poop in his bowl, is that dangerous? Do their feces have bacteria that could harm him?
-
How funny! I think they like to pick a spot. I've had Kiwi for 4 weeks. My grey, peachy, liked him and kept wanting to play with him when we'd visit the breeder. My grey only like human females so I thought for sure.... 100%, kiwi was a girl. Well, so much for me being the bird whisperer.... Kiwi's DNA came back as a bouncing baby boy!! Needless to say, I was speechless. How the heck would she befriend a male amazon! Hahaha. I wasn't looking for an amazon at the time. Actually, another grey. Sydney Peaches would none of that. Hated every new grey she met! The ONLY bird she liked was kiwi (who by the way I named georgia rose before the big sex change! Lol) he was a little shy at first..... But oh my, now he's fighting to be loved now! Loves to go everywhere! Loves kids and never gets nervous. He even sounds like a little elf when he talks. It cracks me up. "hiiiii baby", "step up step up!!" (in elf opera voice), "time to wake up!" "heeeelloooo" and his very catchy... "uhhh ohhhhh!"

Do any of your amazons poop in their food bowls? Kiwi loves loves soak food. So I make him a tiny bit in the morning. He begs for it actually. After he's done, he'll sit on his bowl and poop in it through out the day! ahhhh!! Why? Is he guarding his precious bowl? lol Or is he not too concerned his poops are in there and contaminating his bowl? I don't know. It's weird. He takes forever to eat so I'm usually off to work before I can remove the bowl when he's done. He's not really pooping in his cage....just in the bowl! It's weird! He'll also NEVER poop on me. I'll perch him and then he'll go. ( I do like that ) Just curious if any other zons do this. thanks for any feedback!

Attention MALE Double Yellow Head Owners
sydney peaches replied to fidsandfrats's topic in Cricket's Amazon Room
I'm curious as well. My blue front is male. I'm a little scared if he will go thru "the change"!! -
Here is Kiwi! He is my 7 month old blue front! Just as sweet as a real kiwi and starting to vocalize. Very different from my grey. I am enjoying training and loving him.

Thank you Dave! You are so smart.

Hello Everyone, I'm taking Sydney Peaches next week for her very first beak trim. She had a minor beak injury about 2 months ago and I have been waiting until things have completely healed before taking her for her trim. I'm nervous. Can anyone tell me what I can expect and how short is too short? Also, is it painful for them? Should the tip stay pointed or do should they make it flat or beveled? Any tid bits of information would be great! Thank you!! Maria

It's my husbands. I just love how it matches Sydney! The Diavel is too much bike for me. I actually ride a Harley Sportster. It's yellow and doesn't look my bird.
