  1. I was thinking about getting one.. My grey Zeus is wide and weighs 500+ grams... how much does marcus weigh? Currently when i travel he is in a homemade pak o bird.. I used a i go pet plus http://www.petco.com/product/109959/Pet-Gear-I-GO2-Black-Traveler-Plus.aspx and made a pvc perch i put on the inside. the front was so chewed, that Zeus can slide him self out of the bottom and ive only had it for 3 months
  2. I THINK IM WITH DAN... CODY WOULD GO TO SLEEP WHEN HE WAS TIRED.. AS LONG AS THERE WAS NO LOUND SUDDEN NOICE HE WOULD STAY SLEEP... ZEUS, MY NEW GREY IS PRETTY MUCH THE SAME WAY.. HE ACTUALLY EVEN GOES TO SLEEP ON HIS CAR PERCH WITH THE RADIO ON WHEN WE GO FOR A LONG RIDE TO VISIT FAMILY. i THINK AS LONG AS THERE IS NO SUPER LOUD ORANYTHING THAT WILL JOLT THE CAGE OR ANYTHING HE SHOULD BE FINE... MAY WANT TO TRY COVERING PART OF THE CAGE IF NEED BE
  3. Thank you Everyone... I WILL DEFINITELY NEVER EVER FORGET HIM. I Picked him up from the breeder 7/10/2011 and we had a very eventful 8 hour drive back to VA within those months i had to replace 7 pair of headphones, a couple of keys on my laptop, 3 univeral remotes, plastic cups, tooth brushes, and pratically anything plastic. He was genuinely just a joy to be around. He would scream when strangers tried to touch him but if they didnt pull thier hand away, he would go to them. the funny part is he woud do this sigh before he stepped up onto the strangers hand.. like ' uuggh i guess you're not scared of me so daddy says to show you love' even if I got a timneh tomorrow he wont be Cody the Greyt A.K.A CODES.
  4. Hello all, I know its been a while since ive been up here. Just a little background story. I researched what bird i wanted for 2 years prior to making a decision on a grey. Then I spend more time deciding if i wanted a TAG or CAG. then I found a breeder very close to my house and decided to go TAG. Unfortunately, the bird I named Cody never even made it home to me. The whole clutch died. So then trhe search for another breeder came... I live in virginia but several people had recommended a small shop in Jersey called Fancy Feathers. I called and talked to Denise and decided she would be where i would go to get my TAG. Then 5 months later .. along came Cody II. I picked him up in July. We got him harness trained and then he went with m just about everywhere.. we started recall training. and he was just a joy to be with. I had some frinds in town for homecoming and they wanted to me Cody, The GREYT. soI put on his harness put him in his homemade Pak- O-Bird and off to the car we go. I put him in the car and he climbed out of the bag, which is no big deal.. that was the routine. part of the routing the i forgot was to secure his harness. When i opened my door he went to fly to my should as he usually does but it was exceptonally windy that saturday and he missed my shoulder and i missed his harness. i called for him and he began to circle around but he couldnt come down. it was like the a balloon al i can hear is him screeching and going higher and higher I tried to follow him and continued to call for him.. once he had gone out of sight i ran into the house to have my friends help me look for him and call . clickers whistle his favorite annoyingly loud bell we used all the noise we could. there was a mover accross the parking lot that tld me he say Cody II because he was still wearing his harness. I looked up and to my horror, i saw him being chased by crows. I saw him land in a tree and all the crows gathered. the tree was not reachable from where i was so i called animal control and was advised that they dont climb trees and because i couldnt verify that he was still in the tree... they wouldnt place a memo in the system in case anyone finds and returns him. As you can imagine I was heart broken. I didnt realize how much Cody II had become a part of my life. We would have oatmeal or hot cereal together in the mornings and play tug-o -war before work. After work, at least 2 times a week, we would go on an excursion. The whole purpose of the harness was to allow him to experience things other than my 1000sq/ft apartment. he loved riding in the car. and while some people wouldnt agree with my method of transportation Cody II enjoyed traveling. It made him a very confident bird more fearless.. I immediately posted ad on Craigslist , 911parrotalert and several other sites alerting people that i had lost my fid. His cage was too large for my to place outside and the rental company declined that request anyway . but they did allow me to ut his portable perch out and food in the area that i last saw him .. everyday i would leave work on my lunch break to go survery the area because i know they typically dont go far. I placed lost flyers in local shops and even did door 2 door campaign trying to find my feathered friend. Cody II was only 7 months and was just beginning to talk but he did learn 1 trick that made him a star everywhere we went.. He learned to play dead. I would grab him, look him in the eye and say "Dead bird" he would flop his head over my hand and put his little feet in the air untill i pretended to bring him back to life by saying "CLEAR". It was in the play dea position that i saw Cody Ii hanging from his harness way way high in the tree. i saw some movement so i didnt know if he was on his last leg or if it was just the wind. This time the fire department came out but thier ladder truck was unable to reach him , he was just too high. I called and calledd there wwas no significant movement to indicate any sign of life remaining. Devestation again, but this time it was with a sense of closure. I called my breeder to let he know what had happened. everyone on facebook that knew me understood that Cody II meant so much to me. ( mainly because i posted so much about him ). Cody II will be missed by me and the many people that loved him . unfortunately he wasnt here long but i take peace in knowing that while he was here, he was well taken care of and we enreiched each others lives.

    Pecans?

    do you have a timneh?
  6. i was a little nervous about the clipping as well.. wasnt sure what to do. my breeder suggested that i leave him flighted and see how that worked for my lifestyle.. IT WORKS.. we going out with the aviator but he doesnt like to fly outside but in the house its cool to see him hover and bank corners in the beginning he had to get used to the apartment but now he flies like a Navy Blue ANgel
  7. 'lock cody up at night... he had a cage that he plays in while im at work and a seperate one that he sleeps in. but he could not be left out all day .. i have too many electronics to worry about.. and even when its something i dont think about he manages to find something to get into.. so he is only out when i am home and usually put him in the sleeper around 9.. but from about 530 till then.. we are either out for a drive/ walk or playing in the house..
  8. i bought my cage from amazon... http://www.amazon.com/Large-Parrot-Finch-Macaw-Birdcages/dp/B002YYXSLS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1307966369&sr=8-2 . the instructions suck but i couldnt beat the price
  9. I am really hoping that he stays that active. I have a lot of nephews and nieces that are excited about him coming home.. they all know no fast movements, and that parrots use their beaks to feel not always to bite. We went to a local pet shop that has them out just so i could see how they would interact with birds. so definitely looking forward to it.
  10. Here is my timmie ... i dont have him yet but his name is Cody J. Allen Mayes lol .... Cant wait until he comes home
  11. I havent been to visit but the fact that she send updates and videos because i cant isit was one thing i loved.. secondly , every breeder that i talked to i asked if they clipped thier birds she told me that is totally my decision. I was floored.. NONE of the others that i went to gave me that option. ( even though now im still debating whether or not i want to) third I asked about a harness. she advised me that she sold the aviator and asked if i wanted her to get my bird used to it.... I said how much extra is that training.. she giggled and said nothing... i was totally amazed. i know her birds are well socialized and each one is cared for. from parolett to macaw i dont think it matters to her and i love that. I am in virginia and my mom lives in yonkers, but i think its totally worth the trips. she told me she started in her home and went to a small store for space reasons so i know its not about mass breeding for the money. I lost my first timneh before it even had real feather but i am convinced everything happens for a reason
  12. The breeder sent me a video of my baby... im sooo excited cant wait to get him... i have soooo many things planned in my head lol
  13. have you been to her store? i plan on coming up to visit my baby on the 24th of june
  14. Well the instructions suck ... but once you lay the out the pieces you can kinda see how it goes together.. i've help put together some really expensive cages and i will saw they are right when it comes to that but for the price.. its a steal indeed. i probably wouldnt put a macaw in the cage cause it may bend the bars but timneh congo large cage for a little over 200 with shipping.. i wouldnt trade it. if you need help understanding the instructins let me know..
  15. so as you may or may not know, i had a timneh on deposit in March but it didnt make it ... Well i found another breeder ( although she is 300 miles away ) in New Jersey.. Talked to her on the phone a few times before making my decision. one of the things that i really liked was that she asked me if i knew whether i wanted my bird's wings clipped or not. i thought that was great to allow me to make that decision. most breeders automatically clip. I also asked about the aviator harness and she said that she would get him used to it for me... WWWWOOOOWWWWW... the comments on her FB page are wonderful about how clean her store is, and how sweet her birds are.. So i will be getting my Cody after all... Because im not local, she offered to send me pics and also encourage me to come by as often as i could. Her site is FancyFeathersaviary.com I also finally got the cage and decided to got with the "house type" i didnt realize it was so big though.. looks like i will be buying tons of toys...
  16. if you own a sun conure and no one can hear them, your neighbors are not close lol
  17. The VPI Avian and Exotic Pet Plan is not available online. Please call 1-888-899-4VPI to enroll
  18. we have a breeder not to far from me that sells CAGS for 950 and TAGS for 800 the pet shops sell CAG for 900-1200 and Tags 600-900
  19. Thank you ... If i were to find a cag that actually liked me i dont think i would be opposed to getting one.. but from a "want " standpoint i would love a TAG. The CAGs ive come across that were for sale were not friendly or were somewhat skittish with the exception of one that needed a 1500 surgery on her leg from a breeder. So while im not generalizing all CAGs My initial experiences with TAGs have been better. But if i found one that was for sale that took to me i wouldnt pass it up.
  20. thanks guys n gals.. i never uestion why things happen.. .it just wasnt meant to be at this particular moment.. The breeder was really hurt... it was somewhat of an awkard conversation because i think she was excited that i was excited and then felt bad to have to deliver the news and i felt bad because i knew she ws hurt by the loss. she kept saying im so sorry and then i would say im so sorry and this went on for about 10 minutes... told her to hold onto my deposit because i would like to get my bird from her.. but i am set on a timeh ( no offense to the congo owners ) but there is just something about the timneh that has me.. she did offer a discounted congo but i told her no thank you. she is checking with some of her "breeder buddies" to see if anyone has them. So my hunt begins.... again.
  21. sad day... The breeder called me today to inform me that she went to pull the babies and the whole clutch died... Looked like the parents aspirated them she said...
  22. lol i do... well its cood that it has a clean meaning as opposed to an x^3 meaning lol...
  23. yea tags are less expensive. The breeder told me the because Cags are in more demand its easier to make a profit from them than tags.. also to my understanding. tags do no lay as often as cags... so in this case although more rare they are less profitable ... they are very underated
  24. i used to have parakeets that were awesome escape artist. would scare the poop out of me taking laps around the living room while im sleeping... S/N you screen name is hilarious
