  1. Interesting. My Amazon (age 14 years) gets along well with both me and my boyfriend, but I think she likes him better. She always makes a great big noisy fuss over him when he comes over. (Funny, though, I think she trusts me more.) My CAG is not quite five months, and he definitely prefers me. He sometimes bites my boyfriend, but he never bites me. I hope he doesn't switch allegiances down the road. I want him to love both of us, but if he can only love one of us, I want it to be me!
  2. I keep a carrier under each bird's cage, for a quick getaway in case of fire.
  3. Wow. I think you've got a very special bird there.
  4. I agree with luvparrots - too much parrot for me! I think they're pretty spectacular, though, and I love watching them.
  5. She's gorgeous! Is she enclosed somehow? How do you keep her from flying away?
  6. Oboe the lovebird rules this roost!
  7. I read that article too. It also said that allowing your bird access to a cozy spot, like a closet shelf, wasn't a good idea when they're already feeling hormonal. I've been letting Kazoo spend some time in the closet since it makes her so happy, but Bird Talk says it's a bad idea. Speaking of the centerfold, I'm amazed at how much my birds like looking at pictures of birds. My dog and cat can't seem to look at a 2D image and actually see a 3D object. But the birds can. Oboe has the Bird Talk centerfold of the lovebird on the wall near his cage, and he loves it. He also loves the Grey on my kitchen calendar. He nibbles on both of them whenever he gets the chance.
  8. I am greatly relieved - thank you! (And Simon says SQUAWK!)
  9. I don't have a TV, though I've been thinking about getting one for the birds if (when) I get a full-time job.
  10. For me it's the sweet bedtime sounds. When I say goodnight to her and tell her how much I love her, and she makes those soft, happy, sleepy sounds. I can almost literally feel my heart expanding.
  11. I have Simon, a CAG. Kazoo, a rehomed Double Yellow Headed Amazon and Oboe, a peach-faced lovebird.
  12. That's very touching. I'd forgive him and let him stay up late too if he apologized to me.
  13. Simon especially likes the toy I got from you with the t-connector and the two chains of plastic circles hanging down on each side and the bell in the middle. He likes the wiffle balls too, but they don't last long! He chews them up in little bits and has a blast doing it.
  14. Sometimes when you gaze into their eyes, their eyes look ancient, holding so many generations of knowledge and wisdom. I find that true especially of macaws.
  15. My lovebird, Oboe, has convinced my baby Grey, Simon, to be his best friend. They only spend about two hours a day together, when I bring Oboe down to hang out with the big birds. But they hang out together and preen each other and Oboe even stands on Simon's back to get to those hard-to-reach spots. The problem is that Oboe is teaching Simon how to speak lovebird. He's mastered the contact call, and sometimes they sit on my keyboard (while I'm typing) and practice it non-stop for fifteen minutes. If I say hello to Simon, he responds with a lovebird squawk. Lovebirds have a lot going for them, but their voices aren't one of their better attributes. Is there anything I can do to stop Simon from speaking lovebird? More importantly, is he going to speak lovebird INSTEAD of English? He's only four and a half months old, so he hasn't learned any words or phrases yet.

    I'm sorry you lost Burt.

    Annie

If they only wanted a perfect bird, they don't deserve her!
  18. I love his tail and stretchy neck too! He's a total sweetheart. I think it's wonderful that you get to see him every day.
  19. Note: This bird sounds wonderful and is currently living in Ohio.
  20. Excellent. I hope it works out for both of them.
