  1. Yep, baby greys are a very delicate creature. Be sure to check out some of the different rooms and posts on hand feeding, as this is a science.
  2. Have you heard of Dr. Kevin Wright and Dr. Jay Johnson at Arizona Exotic Animal Hospital? They are truly amazing, compassionate, and caring. Provided wonderful care to our little Linus and did everything they could. If you haven't already, they might be a resource to contact.
  3. Welcome! Curious to hear more about the breeder and such after you visit...I'm in Phoenix as well and just laid our grey to rest. Eventually we'd like to get another. You won't regret the grey decision!
  4. I would love to hear more about Gus...how blessed you are to have such a mature bird!
  5. Welcome! Once you are touched by a grey, there's no going back! They're incredible...keep us posted!
  6. Again, thank you all. No doubts, no second guesses, just gratitude for sharing this brief time with our special little man! In the end, his frail body couldn't contain that HUGE spirit of his. Wherever he is, he's soaring high! Much love, little Linus. Much love.
  7. Thank you...every day gets a little easier. Linus is an inspiration to me...he taught me about unconditional love and friendliness, living life in the moment and fearlessly, making the most out of every day. I can only hope to do the same during the time that I have left!
  8. Linus was a very special little man, who's life ended way to short, after one year. In that year, he gave us smiles, laughs, joy, tears, and a lot of life lessons. For a Grey, he was very friendly, to anyone and everyone. He would step up, whistle, and ask to be scratched from a variety of different people, even strangers. He made our friends and family, laugh and smile, especially when he would try and say "charge" to our whistle prompt (see videos on photobucket). In the end, he just wanted to love us, and be loved. He licked Alissia's tears away, and gave us lots of kisses. He will be missed and we will remember all of the beautiful, wonderful moments we had with him. Thank you Linus, for chosing us, coming into our lives and loving us. We will always love and remember you. Noelle and Alissia http://s1085.photobucket.com/albums/j439/Alissiajayne78/
  9. Thank you all for your kindness. Linus was laid to rest yesterday afternoon and went peacefully. We miss him terribly but know that it was time. It was a relief to see him have peace. Once we have some more time to process this loss, we'll post to the Memorial Room. He was a special little guy that touched the lives of everyone he met.
  10. Hi all- Today is a sad day. Linus has been diagnosed with mycobacterium on top of the aspergillosis that he has been ardently fighting. Basically that means that he has avian TB, which is untreatable in birds as it is in humans. As a result, we have made the difficult (but merciful) decision to lay his little body to rest. He will fly free on Saturday, giving us a couple of days to come to terms with this unfortunate fact. We are heartbroken. It's difficult to understand given his age (1 year), and it is easy to second guess what we might have done wrong. But, what I do know is that we gave him love and he gave it back, and I will be forever grateful for our brief time together. I will post more after he is gone in the Memory Room, but just wanted to update and to thank all who have taken the time to send their prayers and well-wishes. Noelle and I have really appreciated that, and we plan to get another grey someday. And, we still plan to remain active in the forum, to give love and support to all of you wonderful people.
  11. Hi all. As many know, Linus was diagnosed with Aspergillosis and has been hospitalized now for 2 weeks. He has lost a tremendous amount of weight (390 down to 258 yesterday) however has resumed eating as normal. Yet, he is not putting on weight as we would like. Any thoughts on why this might be? Have been asking my vet but really haven't received a solid explanation. Wondering if it might be his medication? Anyone else have similar experience? Thanks.
  12. Sounds like a happy little bird!
  13. Welcome to you and Sugar! This is a great place to be. Look forward to more photos...what a pretty bird.
  14. T-minus a few days and Linus should be home! I posted some first HatchDay photos in the bday room...what a riot!
  15. I have to chime in on the small world thing...I am a Miami (Ohio) alum! Of course, I studied in Oxford, OH...
  16. I, too, am erring with "scratch my head, please!"
  17. What an adorable little man! Thanks for sharing pictures. I remember how exciting/nerve wracking bringing home your first grey can be! As previously stated, you won't be disappointed!
  18. Greyson is awful handsome! Thanks for sharing.
  19. Thought I would share some photos with you all, on Linus's first birthday. Wasn't sure we were going to have the privilege of seeing this day! Linus's Birthday Cake! (for our vet...the photo is EDIBLE, but not Linus) Who Is That??? I'm a Handsome Fella I Wish I Could Eat Cake...I Need To Gain Weight!
  20. Happy Valentine's Day to you! Loved the photo. Our hearts bleed grey!
  21. How exciting! Welcome to the forum. Look forward to hearing more about your soon-to-be grey!
  22. Welcome to the flock! Look forward to photos!
  23. A BIG Thank You to you all who have kept Linus in your prayers. Was just notified by our vet today...Linus may be coming home in the next day or two!!!! It is nothing short of a miracle...and his first Hatch Day is tomorrow! We're really excited, but understand that we are going to have our work cut out for us...
  24. The latest on Linus... He ate 20 pellets on his own last night! This is HUGE progress. We're hoping to have him home sometime next week. The anti-fungal treatment seems to really be making the difference, all but solidifying the aspergillosis diagnosis. Our vet is really being hard on himself for not catching this sooner. The reality is, the labs didn't support the diagnosis. Dr. Kevin Wright is amazing...and Linus has found his way onto our vet's website! We are so grateful for the care they have provided. In fact, next Tuesday is Linus' first birthday!!!! Planning on delivering a cake to the office in celebration and to thank them for all their hard work and care.
