This is getting painful few more days my lil freind will be with me all of the time -
My shelby is just 3 months old she has not made a clear sound but is extreamly vocal when talked to. She kinda mutters.. Some of the most used praises i tell her all the time is "good girl" or "shelby good girl" or "are you puffing" She ususaly respoinds with a mutter last week i thought she started to say the G sound. is it too early for her to start sounding things out. I have noticed her brother and her do chirp back and forth at night when they are in there cages. and its IDENTICLE. Otherwise she does not chirp just mutters when she is with me and i mean this is all the time.

No shelby mustangs in my garage i could have got one last summer but i went for a 11 GT instead car is just stupid fast. I do have 2 mustangs 1. 03 mach 1 31k i am the original owner car has won many shows and has never been dirty or even driven in the rain cept for when i get caught 2. my Daily mustang is a 11 mustang GT premium with factory 19s I have a Victory kingpin too. She is shelby cause at the rate i am going its the only shelby ill ever be able to afford. and I wanted a name that would reflect on my taste with being cute but not to cute. to best discrib myself i am a non tattoed 270 lbs biker. so a name like polly was not going to cut it for this bird. Check this out this is her home coming suprise present http://www.petco.com/product/12872/Avian-Adventures-Recreation-Center-for-Birds.aspx -
She is weaning awsome eating good already sleeping in her own cage....... so if all goes well she will be ready to come home 2 weeks from tomarrow I started to look for a bird last october I was going to get a JARDINES but unfortunily the lil guy did not make it ........ So along came Miss Shelby and wow what a bird she is so freindly, outgoing and nothing seems to shake her up I have taught her to play with toys and she is really picking things up fast Next I want her to fly to me from the cage or perch if i call her from a few feet she sill step up step down and turn around already i swear it took me less than 20 min to teach her to turn around. So far i have spend about 20 to 25 hours with her so she knows me and gets all puffy when i say to her Shelby Good Girl then i say Kisses and give a lil rub with my nose......... There are some minor things she does but its easy to distract her she loves eye glasses and shirt buttons I ususaly tell her no then distract her with a toy and she will take that then again its the good girl praise. and she will then get all puffy. She is also extreamly vocal as making sounds I kinda will say what did you say ? are you a good girl. Just positive things like that and then she will mutter back to me . every one is telling me thats the beginings of learing to talk but who am i to know. So yes i am stoked she will be here soon now to parrot proof the house She will be BANNED from the kitchen when anything is being cooked i herd a horror story of a conure and a pot of soup that i wish i never herd. Cant wait for my lil girl to be with me all the time ....................

yes that had a shell it was from the bird store so i am sure they are up to what ever grade they need to be this place has been in business for over 20 years and the owner has about 8 grays including a few that live in the store. They are very reputable and I know alot of owners will not buy food from any other pet store. I am new at this so bear with me... But I really trust the folks at the store. the owners 8 grays are mostly resque and have special needs they both really LOVE all the birds they raise and sell. They do not just sell birds either they educate and spend alot of time with new owners 1 to 1 and discuss what to expect and tell you to go home and think about it before they will even take a deposite. once that is done ususaly the bird is weaning so they HIGHLY encourage new owners to come to the store and get aclimated to there new birds. They have a play area set up for owners to play with the new birds and start learning to train and be trained... So far i have spent about 20 hours with Shelby and will most likly spend another 40 with her BEFORE she comes home. Right now she spends time in her cage so when she comes home the cage and myself will not be strange. So i am really trying my best to do every thing right...... but mistakes might be part of learning.

Very good article to read about e-ciggs only thing is I live in NY and I am just weary only because we have some REALLY STUPID laws on the books here.... for instance you can be fined for not removing your trailer hitch from your receiver Do you know why this is : A senate member rear ended a pick up truck and wrecked his car he had been told that if the truck did not have the hitch attached the damage would have been significantly less and the car would have had minor damage........ So guess what...now its illegal not to remove your hitch when not in use..... So nothing to do with E-ciggs but every time i see a law like that being inacted like that in NYS i have to think in the back of my mind that it was just some pissed off politition on a personal vandeta

Thanks for the info once in a while doing pc stuff i like to puff on a smoke and since i plan to have shelby in the room with me i was hoping i could find a work around
-
I know smoking in around near or any bird is a no no but what about vapor ciggerettes they do not make any kind of smoke and you only exhale water vapor it does not hang in the air. These are even allowed in office buildings

More time with Shelby Today about 4 hours... I was impressed she wanted to get up on a perch and could not ... however there were some towls folded up next to the perch yup she figured out if she got up on the towls she could hop to the perch...She is also still VERY vocal with her coo-ing you can just tell she gets so excited about some things. Some one noticed today she was making a G sound. I am constantly prasing her telling her Good Girl. she is only 11 weeks is this the beginings of forming words.. am i crazy or is she picking up my praises. Also today when i walked in she was in the aveary and when i said hello to her she stated cooing and got all exicited going all kinda crazy...... She also seems to want to be on me when i am there She is doing very well with the step up command and doing very well learning to play with toys.
-
went to play with her again ! and she has learned some new things now she will step up and is using her foot to hold things. and she even FLEW!!!! they took three feathers off to slow her down a little. but she was all over the place playing and making cooing noises giving kisses ect........ I would say somthing like pretty bird or call her name and she would puff right up I was holding her and i would say 90% of the time she was puffed up and looking all around just in a very playful mood today. was totaly awsome. She as no issue with me feeding her a peanut and being puffed and standing on 1 leg.

She got to meet her grandparents today and made a excellent impression. I also got a very nice comment from a woman that has owned grays for 20 years on how nicley tempermented Shebly is And how she seems to have great potential to stay so sweet. She is now spending some time in her cage or the aviary. She also picked out a new toy She seems to love things with knots in them and we put a hoop swing in her cage I put her in and she jumped right on it and played on it for a LONG time just climbing all over it and spining around. She seemed to really like it. I spent about 5 hours with her put her back in her cage a few times and walked away and talked to other folks. She does not like to be put in the cage but is fine once she is in. but she was tired and getting a little cranky. I had lots of compliments even had some help in picking out some crunchy paper distructable toys! She even shoplifted one (god i love this bird)...................

No I would not do that I have read that saliva and birds are a no no she was just nibbling on my lip. She did not do that today I would just every 20 min or so she if she would step up She is not too much into it so I did not push it. She was also starting to hold treats in her hand\paw\foot but was just starting to grab and hold it. She will be going in her cage next week for a few hours a day so I let her pick out two toys she started to play with immdiately. At one point I was asking her to get on my hand she was not to interested ok I thought Just than another bird made a huge screech and she RAN into my hands and wanted me to hold her I was like hmmm now how you like me now All in all i spent about 4 hours with her today most of it was just petting and talking to her with the occaisional new food item and asking her to stepup while i put my Hand near her feet She was taking anything from me to a lil carrot some nuts and some other treats. These are some pictures from this afternoon. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=30116&id=1751544583&l=8298c2f09a

Going to go bond and hang out with Shelby the CAG I am going to get. I spent about 2 hours with her last saturday another 2 on tuesday and about 3 hours thursday... I am going to stay with her today another 4 hours. I hope to start teaching her to step up today . I got her to do it a few times thursday but it was more when she wanted to do it then i would say up up, Then praise her and offer a treat.... She was also preening while i was holding her on my hand she is a little big to be a single finger bird but she rested nice in the crock of my hand when i make a soft fist. She was also preening me and herself big time and doing the mouth thing with her beak on my lips.... Cant wait to spend the afternoon with her again today bringing my camera to take some pictures.

Getting a Gray would like to know if they like music
Mikestang replied to Mikestang's topic in The Nursery
Its not important to me what sound the bird makes or even if it ever talks. I am really just curious as to what they pick up and can imitate. whats important to me is we form a bond trust love and respect each other. (sounds like a wedding vow) but it is a life's commitment. Getting the CAG is not a spur of the moment choice for me its been thought out and has taken 3 months to even get to the point of putting a deposit on the bird. I have been thinking of a bird for the last few years after my iguanna Mongo died at age 13 he was 15 lbs and 5 foot long. Had to have him put down after he had a stroke I originaly was going to be able to buy a Jardine's parrot however after the shop got him and was still weaning he died of pnumonia I had already started to bond with him we were working on stepping up and he died at 8 weeks old I was visiting him 2 times a week and spending a few hours on saturdays at the shop This shop does not really "stock" alot birds with the jardines we started with an egg. but they also got in 5 baby grays at the same time they are weaning they were older than the jardines. And from a differnt breeder So after all of this even though i never thought i was going to have a gray i sat down with all of the birds and decieded on the one that seemed settle down the quickest and was most cuddly.... The store I been working with is birds only and has a great following in the area every saturday they encorage customers to bring in there birds and socialize and talk bird talk I have been going and meeting folks and making aquantances so I feel I am going to have a good support system behind us. So I just wanted to know if they like music and will jam with me and be able to enjoy it like i do. I guess the anser is YES she will.
