Sounds like a great experience for you. Now that Gracie is entering her "terrible twos" I may need some new strategies.
-
I hear the same as the others. Very cute little voice.
-
I give Gracie a good soaking by misting her with a water bottle a couple times a week. She seems to enjoy it. I was lucky that the breeder misted her frequently before I brought her home, so the transition wasn't and. Good luck and keep us posted.

So great that Sophie wants to "lend a helping wing". Gracie doesn't seem to be as generous yet, but perhaps when she matures a bit she will be. I could use some help with dusting and washing up.

So glad you have been so enriched by your bond with Josie. Happy hatchday and hope you both enjoy that special time together.
-
I have really enjoyed the few things I have read from "Felix". I may have to get the book. Thanks for the link.

Love the pic. Time flies doesn't it? Happy hatchday Luna!

So when is little Thane coming home? I know how excited you must feel. It seems like just yesterday when I was visiting my Gracie at the breeders. It seemed like an eternity before I got her home. Now I can't imagine life without her, although at times I wistfully remember weekend mornings where I could sleep past 7. Those days are gone forever, but so much more has been added that it is a small sacrifice. If I'm lucky Gracie will let me nap on the couch sometimes, but if she gets bored she will tell me to "Step Up Daddy!".

It is hard to tell with Gracie. Sometimes she does "naughty" things just to get my attention, so if I say "no no" and come over to her, she stops what she is doing and enjoys time with "Daddy". If she really wants to do the naughty thing and doesn't care about the attention, she normally ignores my admonitions like so much "wah wah wah" from Charlie Brown's teacher.

We have been relatively lucky in Tulsa, but Thursday night an EF-2 tornado destroyed a neighborhood and commercial center just 2 miles from my parents' house in Broken Arrow (no injuries thankfully). Usually Gracie and I go there during bad weather, but I decided not to that night. The funnel went right over their house before touching down. You just never know. My church is sending volunteers to the areas in Moore and OKC over the next few weeks. I hope to join the effort. It always helps when you can do something.

Gracie sometimes sounds like a drunken pirate...wonder what that says about me?

Hi. Another Oklahoman! Welcome. Where abouts are you? It is still early days, so there is no telling how willing your grey will end up being regarding petting. My CAG Gracie does not like to be petted at all. She never has. She does like beak / nose kisses, but that is it. She will be 2 at the end of July. It used to be something I missed and wanted, but we have gotten so close and bond in different ways. Of course I would love to cuddle the little girl, but if it doesn't happen, I'm ok. I hope you have that experience with your grey.

I'm down for it. Whatever happens the green bars don't come close to reflecting her contributions here. -
Shelby is a cutie pie! Biru too! Your pics and vids make me smile.

My CAG will have nothing to do with her harness. When we go outside it is in a roomy travel cage.. She loves to feel the breeze and sunshine and watch passersby at the park. Shelby looks very comfortable and happy. Glad she is enjoying her harness and the outdoors.

Hi! You have an adorable bird in Thane. I tried to read some of your earlier posts, but I couldn't find anywhere a mention of him being fledged. Did he get to fly before he got clipped? I'm guessing he is about 12 weeks old. They usually take flight by 10-11 weeks or so. Fledging is an important part of their development, so I'm hoping he had that chance. As far as biting...well many young birds use their beaks to grab on to things and sometimes it may be one of our fingers! It may just be that, or it could be actual biting. There are several threads here that address this issue because unfortunately it is a rare grey that doesn't go through biting phases. The main thing is to read body language and avoid the bite if possible. Redirecting is very good and trying not to react too much, but simply say "no bite" gently but seriously works for many. Keep us posted. You have a real sweetheart there!

I have been reading this post, and have to say that I advise caution. I hate the situation these greys are in, but please take some time and reflect on your expectations and if you are fully prepared to undertake this commitment. If you can foster one for a period of time, that might be a great start in exploring an adoption. Is the fact that the grey is being offered free of charge influencing your decision to a large degree? It may seem like a great opportunity, but really the normal initial cost, though considerable, is just the tip of the iceberg. If this grey had a price tag of $1000 would that be a deal breaker? Is this truly the bird that you want to share your life with? I believe cost should be well down the list in deciding on a parrot to live day to day with for decades. Pretend for a moment that cost was no issue and that you were free to find that perfect avian companion without any financial considerations. Would this be your choice? I know that you have some experience with parrots, but my impression is that as far as living with a companion bird--this is still new territory for you. If I am wrong and missed something posted earlier, I apologize. All I can say, is please stop--think--reflect--and try not to make any quick or impulsive moves. I am so glad you are here, and I don't want to sound like I am telling you what to do. Just please count the cost and be 100% sure. Best wishes.

I agree with the consensus. You have a happy bird there!
-
Lol--you Brits have it easy. I guess Australia has it the worst. Seems they have the deadliest of everything there. Spiders, snakes, jelly-fish, and baby-eating dingoes!
-
Wishing you and the CAG the very best.
-
Your bird is a real beauty!
-
Well it seems that brown recluse spiders eat crickets and crickets eat brown recluse spiders. I guess it depends on who gets the first bite!
-
My CAG won't eat fruit either. She may mouth a bit of mango or banana, but she isn't that interested.
-
My bird is Gracie--a CAG--she knows and loves to say her name. She is her favorite "person". She also knows my name (well she calls me "Daddy") and the names of my parents, friends, and the dog.
