Where did you get Greyson? Bodhi was born 9/30/10 so is just a couple of weeks younger.
-
Haha! She has purred since I brought her home at 8 weeks. She has been cuddly since day one but I have spent a lot of time with her on my shoulder which some people think is not so good. I have also been working on touching her and holding her in weird positions...yes I am eccentric...but she now lets me hold her with her back balanced on the palm of my hand and also upside-down. When she doesn't like something she growls and squaKs but forgives quickly. She is a riot!

Bodhi purrs all the time...very quietly when she is cuddling. Tonight I was watching a sappy hallmark movie and I started crying (go ahead and laugh at me -everyone does). Bodhi was sleeping on my shoulder and suddenly woke up and very gently started licking my tears. I swear she was trying to comfort me! I told her I was ok and thanked her and she went right back to sleep

Bodhi was born sept 30th. I love all these stories but it makes me sad to think she may lose her cuddliness. Maybe if I overprotect her and don't let her hang out with friends or go to parties she will stay dependent in me and therefore stay cuddly.

My baby Bodhi and I cuddle every night while I watch tv or go on computer- im usually sitting in bed. She likes to doze off with me holding her beak between my thumb and index finger or with my hand completely over her head (she is resting on my shoulder and bent down so her head is on my chest. Is that weird? My kids are making fun of our cuddling habits

My grey lost interest in hand feedings at About 14 weeks, which seemed early to me. But she was eating all kinds of foods and not picky (except some fruits) so I guess she was just ready. Her weight has stayed stable and she is very happy in her disposition now (hatched 9/30/10).

I am up for the Eva bird reunion. Haha! Whe we were there she showed me her lorikeet, caique, and conure babies and i wanted all of them! All were so friendly and trusting.

My grey was born 9/30/10 and her eyes turned that color about the same age. I posted a question about it and was informed that the timeline for eye color changes varies quite a bit.

That's so cool you are buying through Eva! Her homenis beautiful and the birds have great care! All then babies are kept in the house and they are all so friendly. My bird is super smart and outgoing and I'm sure yours will he too!

What breeder is it? I just got my Cag from EMR exotic birds. I was able to go to her house and I can't say enough positive things about her!

Thanks! That is so interesting.

I went to the breeders home and in had a choice of three young females and two five to six month old birds. The older birds were not interested in us, so my daughter and I held the three babies on our laps for about an hour. They were all very friendly and gentle, but one seemed more curious and confident and kept putting things in her mouth...my cell phone, keys, etc. I felt this one was telling me to pick her! It turns out this one is grizzled so is unique! She is an amazing bird with a big personality!

Hi My baby girl Bodhi was born 9/30/10. I have read about how the eye color changes over time but it seems that Bodhi's eyes are lightening more quickly than expected. They are a lighter grey now, which i read is expected around six months. Any reasons for this and is there any understanding about what causes the color changing process? Thanks! Gail

Bird Boarding versus Home Care
Shoulderin replied to Shoulderin's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thanks! I have a new option...a friend's parents have two parrots and offered to keep her for the week. I can take her familiar cage with her as well as toys food etc. I have taken her on outings since we brought her home so I don't think being in a new place will be traumatic. Both caretakers are retired and are very experienced with parrots so she will get great care. What do you think? -
Bird Boarding versus Home Care

Thanks! If she stays at home she will be with my husband, who works out of the home, and my older daughter. They would feed her but would not give her the 1:1 attention she is used to. -
Bird Boarding versus Home Care

Thanks everyone for your input. My daughter shows horses and has to go to a show in Arizona (we are in CA). I would take Bodhi but I think that being in a hotel and then being around all the dust and goings-on of a big horse show would be worse than leaving her - don't you agree? I would be happy to stay home with Bodhi if I could because I am basically a servant for the week (for those who have shown horses with their children - you know what I am talking about!) -
Hi, I have a 14 week old CAG girl Bodhi who is thriving in her new home. My daughter and I are the main caretakers and we are going out of town for one week. My husband and second daughter are not able to give her much attention while we are gone so I am wondering if it would be better to keep her at home and hire someone to come in and play with her or to board her at the local vet or bird boarding store. Bodhi is used to a lot of attentionso I am afraid she will be unhappy no matter what I choose. Help!! Thanks, Gail

Aim now trying to each her to whistle the tune "a shave and a haircut, two bits" she is trying so hard but only has the first note...she will get frustrated and then do the wolf whistle really loud as if to say "I'm trying but can't do it yet!"

Hi, I am very new to this forum and African Greys - just got my first parrot (CAG) a month ago! I researched multiple breeders on the internet, looking closely at their websites and ratings and also visited several pet stores to ask questions. I ended up choosing a fantastic breeder in my area (about 100 miles from me) and am totally in love with my new bird. I could have found a bird closer to home as I am in Southern California but I think I chose the right breeder. You may have to travel a bit further but I'm sure you will find the right place! (by the way - I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 5 horses, 3 mini horses, a bunch of rodents (which became mine when my teenagers lost interest), and now 2 white-winged parakeets and and CAG!) Good Luck!

Thanks for the info! I have already told my daufhter (she will be 16 this month) that she is going to inherit Bodhi if she outlives me, which I hope she will! I was actually thinking about that when I bought her - is there any information about how to provide for your bird in that case or then specifying your wishes in a will? I'm not that old but you never know what can happen
-
Oh, and she has also learned to poop on command! I was warned by the bird store staff to make sure to have her poop on command in her cage and not just the perch so she doesn't hold her poop and get an infection because she is waiting for permission.

Hi again, Thanks for the information! There is a funny story about her name. We went to a dog training class with our puppies and the trainer's lab was named "body" but we did not know the spelling. We liked the name, so named our CAG "Bodie." My younger daughter did not like the spelling so changed it to "Boadie." My older daughter had thought her name was "Boaty" all along and was unhappy with the actual name. I now had a spelling and sounding dilemma! Luckily, my colleague at work said her dog was named "Bodhi" by her son becauase he was into meditation. We found out that there is a Bodhi Tree that is associated with wisdom and we all agreed we found our name...BODHI! Here are some additional pictures (and I just started an album because I'm a computer geek). I didn't know that birds were addicting. I also have two white winged parakeets (about 5 months old). They are not too friendly despite my efforts but are a male-female who are not related. Maybe they will have babies some day! Thanks, Gail

Hi, I am new to African Greys and new to this forum. I have a female CAG whom I bought from a breeder at 8 weeks and have been sucessfully hand-feeding. She is now 13 weeks and thriving. I have read a lot about CAG language acquisition, but not too much detail on the other sounds they make. My CAG, Bodhi, began wolf whistling at 9 weeks, then came the "hey you" whistle within a week, then she started copying kissy and clicky noises, and last week she started a big laugh "HAHAHAHAHA." She is very attentive to sounds and seems really interested in everything around her. She is curious, outgoing, and cuddly. Am I wrong to think I have a genius on my hands? or shall I say, on my shoulder? hahaha. If she is going to be a good talker, any advice on how to promote this - I would rather she understand what people and she is saying rather than just mimic words. Thanks!! Gail:)
