my bird is having an affair with my neighbour
twizzle replied to twizzle's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Thanks for the replies. Since i was last on here he has gone off john and taken a liking to my father in law in a big way. I am getting soooo jelouse. I am confused he only likes one person at a time. I am quite concerned as he dosnt want to come out anymore. I am in contact with a local behaviourist so hope to get somewhere soon. I have also since got a baby timneh which he seems interested in but still wont come out to see him. -

i have spent all day online and have worked out he is scared of us. he shakes and bites and lunges when we go near him. He likes and trusts the father in law for some reason. I am in touch with a behaviourist (finally found one) so will keep you posted -
aming a frightened or aggressive African Grey

hi i have got much the same problem plus more. i have posted a few threads on here with him having an affair with my neighbour. The only thing i would say is keep an eye on the time when/if he comes out. Twizzle came out after a few weeks but was very nervous so we left him alone and spoke softly to him. Everything was fine till 11pm when we were tired and he was so nervous we couldnt get him back in the cage. At 3am we resorted to a towel but this only made things worse between us. I have now had twizzle 4 months and he is still scared. We try not to let him out too late if at all and normally get the oven gloves on to put him back in the cage. Any help with this would be great -
hi its now been months and still no joy. I have bought him a bigger cage and spend hours and hours talking singing and dancing for him and he still dont like us. HELP

Twizzle hasnt really been particullarly tame since i got him as the old man never used to let him out but i was up for the challenge and have tried every day since (over a montrh) trying to offer him treats and little strokes and noften ends in me being bite. John the neighbour and the father in law have had more affection and interaction in one day than i have had in a month. I paid for him and pay for all his treats. Its not fair. Boo Hoo -

Thanks for your advice. Since he last post i have had my father-out-law here and he was the same with him. I think it might be the glassers? -
i get bite quite alot by my new 3 year old grey whilst trying too tame him

We have had our 3 year old grey for just over a month now and he still aint 100% with us. He has started to let us stroke his head when he feels like it. Our neighbour was over last nigh and we opened he cage as we normally do in the evening (he dont normally come out) and he came out to our neighbour who was saying hello. john comes over often and says hello o twizzle every time he is here. He let my neighbour stroke him all over and even played a game with him. He was so happy he started regurgitating for the neighbour. He has let me stroke him this morning but nothing compared to what he let john last night. Should i break this relationship up before i goes too far and before i get too jelouse.

thanks for the advise. i thought the towel would be a bad idea but it was nearly 3am and with no joy getting him back in after 5 hours. he had no food whilst out but started sleeping on the top of the cage. he is taking treats from us again but dont want to let him out again, i dont want another set back. I spoke to the previouse owner today and he said he never let the bird out in 3 years but was still very tame. I will try and teach him the step up before i let him out again. Thanks all GEORGE

We have just bought twizzle a 3 year old male grey. We have had him nearly two weeks and when i bought him he was really tame with his owner. We give him treats on regular occasions and we have no trouble feeding him even with the door open. We have had the cage open most nights (with mirror and windows covered) and he dosnt come out. We coaxed him out last night and he was quite happy just sat there for 5 HOURS but when it was time for bed he wouldnt go back in. He bites us and growls at us. We are worried because the only way to get him in was with a blanket through the top and he didnt like it at all he was squalking and squeeling! Today he has gone back to totally not trusting us and seems off. I expect he is tired as i am we were up till 2am trying to coax him in with treats. He has never trusted us to step up and bites us when we go near him but i dont want to keep him cooped up in his cage. Should we let him out? I have read other threads and read lots of books and grew up with one with my nan but twizzle is a caracter of his own and would just like a bit of EXTRA advise on this subject inparticular
