My Golden Conure Chick 1 week old. "Queen of Bavaria"
texascowboy1979 replied to texascowboy1979's topic in The Nursery
Thanks... My breeder friend whos been breeding for over 20 years said that Golden Conures are a pain to raise, and that she once raised one for 3 months and then it just died for no reason... -
I had to pull my Golden Conure chick because the parents were not paying any attention to him. He was pale and skinny. I have him in a brooder and he gets fed about every 2 hours... depending on his crop. 1 Week Old 2 Weeks Old 3.5 Weeks Old

My Grey was sitting on my head the entire time watching her as a supervisor on her colors lesson. I took him off for a sec to see if he would get into the lesson... but desided to fly back on my head... The wooden blocks come from Petsmart under the bird toy section.

True... most people buy birds for there color, and work out the differences later. I compleatly agree. Im trying to produce a solid yellow macaw. I guess there really is no difference, its just a matter of preference. I was looking for a Vos Male, and I was not able to find a pure Vos... only crosses... But then I found someone who has them and I was able to get hone. In my preference, the only ones I cross are macaws... not any other parrot. Thanks.

My baby birds get a stuffed animal. Then when its old and ugly, i throw it out. Each bird gets its own stuffed animals. Right now "RUBY", my Vosmaeri Eclectus has a stuffed monkey... She cuddles it and sleeps quite well. She only crys for food. She gets pleanty of attention. Ruby is bearly getting her tail feathers and a few wing feathers... she's still a little black fluff ball. She's very cute! Hunter had a stuffed lion... Ill see about getting pictures of ruby with the monkey.

what about buying the too? -
From my knowledge, The term hybrid has been used from by a cross bewteen two animals from a different species, they can be from the same Genus to have better results on producing the offspring. A Camelot Macaw is a 2nd Hybrid cross, which means: Breed 1 = Blue & Gold X Scarlet = Catalina Breed 2 = Scarlet X Catalina = Camelot Its been noted that hybrids mature earlier and can reproduce younger than full blooded macaws. Many people have different views on crossing animals. I take both sides. I have breeding pairs to keep the blood line pure, and and I have breeding pairs to create certain hybrids. On Macaws, I support crossing breeds to improve color and friendlyness. Same goes for Peafowl, chickens and other animals around the farm. On other hand, I do not support crossing certain animals like Eclectus. I belive in keeping them pure. As it is it is hard to tell the difference from between Red Sided, Vosmaeri, and SI. I know the female is somewhat distinguishable, but the male to me is the same bird. I keep them seperate at all times. Its really up to the breeder and I know that some people look down on it, but I have no problem with it. The Yellow Camelot is a Beautiful Yellow macaw.

hey everyone. Im picking up 3 babies tomrrow, Wednesday. Im getting 1 blue gold, and 2 baby camelots with no feathers yet. The breeder said one of the camelot babies has a few red feathers... the brother and sistes from the 1st cluch both came out yellow camelots. Im picking up the the Yellow Camelot babies in Oct... but Im curious to see pictures of your camelots, alll colors and ages, as long as they are camelots. Ive seen red camelots that look like Scarlets, and Ive seen Orange Camelots, yellows, and others. Please post ur pictures... Thank you

Hunter and Quincy - The new Bonnie and Clyde!
texascowboy1979 replied to texascowboy1979's topic in Training
WOW... Talk about smart... It be nice to come home and find them cooking me dinner... but one can only dream. I dont think they have nailed how to escape... cause then they would escape more often. Right now its only the 2nd time they have escaped. I Dont have a problem with them loose, but If they are loose, I have to baby proof my home, and I really dont want to move the vases I have on the counter, but the gust of hunters mighty wings have knocked them over several times, and they always stop about 1 inch from folling on the floor... Now, I lock up the vases when the birds are out... Ill see about changing some decor... Hunters New favorite spot is that Window Perch. It sits on top of my cabinet incubator... He loves to look out side. He gets to see a Macaw, chickens, turkeys, guineas, peacocks and other birds that pass by. My other parrots are too far from the window to see, but Im sure he can hear them. Quincy enjoys her cage perch, and love walking around the house. walk walk walk, every where she walks. Ruby the baby Vosmaeri Eclectus is still to small to play with the greys in the house, but when hunter hears Ruby crying, he flys over as fast as he can. He knows that its feeding time and gets to eat Ruby's Left overs... Sometimes he wont even let me feed her so I try to feed ruby as quiet as possible. -
Hunter and Quincy - The new Bonnie and Clyde!

Thanks... I got home last night and Hunter was on his Kitchen Window Perch looking outside waiting for me to get home.. Cuteste thing EVER!!!! -
Hum... Ive never had problems with Cage Time, yet... Best of luck
-
Hunter and Quincy... they are my new Bonnie and Clyde. Hunter and Quincy always get "Yard Time". When I get home, I open the gate to there cage, and then before bed I lock them up. They normally get about 4 to 6 hours of play time. Any hoo... My room mate called me at work today asking if I left there cage open, and I said "NO". Come to think of it, last week they were out without reason... So, the only think I can come up with is that Hunter and Quincy have learned to open there cage. The cage has a leaver to open and close the gate, and then at the top of the gate, there is a little hanging peice of metal that keeps the door shut and has to be turned upside down to open. I dont know how, but They learned to escape. Ive seen quincy open the laches from the outside of the cage to let hunter out, but never from inside... what little escape artists.

I wanted to let everyone know that Hunter finally learned to fly... its already an art. At first... he flew all of 2 feet and came plumetting down like a plane on fire. It was kinda funny and i was a bit scared he hurt himself, but he was just fine. I was not expecting him to learn to fly so soon, Flight seemed to have come out of no where. Once I knew that flying was around the corner, we began to practice... Like King Kong, He would clime the highest structure to attempt flight. He would fly funny at 1st and in a line and then crash into the wall and fall. His landings were not great. He loved to fly to the windows cause he could cling on to the blinds. then He would practice taking off from the blinds and flight straight. He slowly started to fly in circles or make right and left turns, but the landing was still off. I remeber he would fly and crash into my chest just so I could catch him and then hed snugle in my arms. Now Hunter flys very well. He flys around the kitchen, to the bedrooms, to the door and hovers... YES, HOVERS!, and then turns around and flys back. I have even seen Hunter fly straight up about 6 feet and then fly forward.... I did not know parrots could fly straight up and then forward, its almost like hes a JET. Really Cute. He has nailed flying to me and landing right on my shoulder. No more crash landings. Im so proud of him. he's about 4 or so months, He's a June baby.

I love the Dragon Comment, Hunter, my African grey, has the voice of a Dragon. He is bearly learning to speak. Sometimes I think he's gonna breath fire!, LOL. I got a 2 year old female African Grey named Quince a few weeks ago. I brought her home, I put her in her cage and let her be for about 2 weeks, then I started to let her out, she began to explore the house. then one day she walked over to me and lifted her foot, as if to say "pick me up please, i trust you". I was like... OOOOOOKKKKKKK. Now Hunter and Quincy live together... After lots of play time together, I felt comfortable to let them live together. They play a lot and are doing well. Bath time - I have not had any luck with bath time. What do you recommend. I've tried the spray bottle... and they just look at me. is that normal? -
im having trouble with hunter showering... No luck, he just gives me this horrid look like, "HOW DARE YOU, I TRUSTED YOU"... Id love to figure out how to get him to bath.
