  1. Oh man! November is almost here, just one month and some odds days to go.
  2. The best thing we can all do that have experience this shady business is spread the word around. Funny how Val and Talon mention it because I also won a air purifier system that I am gad that I did not claim or else I would have been charge insane amount of money for shipping.
  3. Well I now know that I will be able to bring Malachite home on 1st of December. boy that's just two more months to jump over. I don't know the gender yet but I will soon.
  4. The very disappointing thing I have to add is that BTM has two articles glorifying his products and company.
  5. If you are subscribe to Bird Talk magazine you have probably already seen the one page advertisement for JWR Air Purifier and Humidifier systems and might be contemplating to purchase one. I like to warn you about Jeff the owner of the company does not give you quotes on the total amount (product, shipping, and "insurance") when you make an order. Another thing is that if you order one of their products during a "special sale" that is suppose to come with free extras, they do not ship everything together as a bundle. I order the JWR Rain Forest Germicidal Warm Mist Air Humidifier in mid November in 2010 a week before the Thanks Giving Holiday which during that time JWR was having a Thanks Giving sale of order a humidifier and get two free UV replacement bulbs. When I ordered it, Jeff himself told me the price was only 199.75 and I also mention it to him that I am a Bird Talk subscriber because subscriber get a 10% discount. Well later that day after making the order I look at my bank account on-line and find out he was charging me $258.75. I called him to find out why the price wasn't what he stated it to be and if he already included the 10% discount. He told me and I quote "Do you how much insurance on your package cost shipping from Chicago to California?" Yeah. I was will to accept that and than the amount change to 238.75 and he include another free UV bulbs. When I received my package non of the UV bulbs came with the humidifier and so I called him again. He told me that they send them every six months. Its been eight months now and I just noticed an unauthorized charge of 49.75 to my checking account yesterday 7-25-2011 and called him again to find out why. He said that the charge was for the 3 UV bulbs that I just purchased? I told him that I never made the purchase and that I was suppose to received 3 Free replacement UV bulbs. He sounded very understanding but than changed the subject and asked me if how was the humidifier holding up and that they have been trying to create a cleaning solution to remove the hard mineral deposit. Telling me ACE has a great product that works well and than apologize and said he will correct the charge. I even asked him if he is going to charge me. He told me no. Today is 7-26-2011 and the 49.75 been charge to my account. Bad Business. Here is a link to others like my situation. http://www.preciouspetstores.com/Profile/2587/ http://www.ripoffreport.com/questionable-activities/jwr-exotic-bird-air/jwr-exotic-bird-air-systems-je-cca8a.htm
  6. I never though about that Marcus. I will give that a try, and I'm just waiting to heard from the breeder here in California. I have the option of already acquiring one from other states but I want to be able to see the breeder's facility and where my baby is coming from.
  7. I will be adopting a Hawk head later in the year and information on them is very limited. Does anyone have personal experience with them?
  8. What does it mean when my 2 yr old grey when he makes a begging puppy sound accompanied with what I believe is a display of courtship dance. He begins to sway his head from side to side with head bobbing. Sometimes the swaying is like he is forming an arch or half completed circle. He's also have tried to regurgitate food for me and the only other person I've seen him do this to is his favorite person which is Brennen's father. I'm feel very honored that he loves me since I'm the one who is mostly has raised him, but I how do I approach this?
  9. I guess I'm lucky that all Ruby does when he is alone is eat. I'm only seeing him pluck when he gets frustrated (when he can't get what he wants). Thankfully that is a dying habit now.
  10. As much as we need to learn how to train our fids to learn to coexist with us, how do you train other household members to coexist with our greys? Brennen's father (Brad), the owner of the house, is Ruby's favorite person. As you know how our fids get with their favorite people, our problem is not that he attacks everyone else, it's that he learns bad behaviors like screaming (whistling really loud and making obnoxious noises) and plucking when his favorite person is around. This problem persist for 3 more days when Brad goes back on the road (he's a trucker). We try to tell Brad how to handle Ruby and to back away from Ruby when he starts doing he bad behavior but Brad seems to ignore a lot of what we tell me. I can't deny Brad from being around Ruby and enjoy his company but how do I approach this serious issue? One solution that I can't afford at the moment is moving out and getting my own place. I'm the provider for Brennen, Ruby and I because Brennen is going to school and since we live in his father's house, I don't have to pay rent, just maintain the house and pay for food and gas.
  11. I use 10% bleach to 90% water (hot) with antibacterial soap in a small bucket to soak the wooden, rope, leather, and plastic toys. I than rise them all with running water and bake only wooden, rope, and some plastic toys (as leather with burn and turn into carcoal and some plastics will melt) at 200 degrees for 30 to 1 hour. I also use vinegar mix of 1 to 1 for cleaning leather parts.
  12. One important thing that you didn't list is taking your little one to the avian vet. I strongly suggest to feed pellets and no seeds (only as a treat) and from my experience when you shower you grey you can use a spray bottle with warm water and spray directly to plucked areas to the point they are saturated.
  13. Was anyone able to see the lunar eclipse last night?
  14. He loves doing this a lot. He sometimes does a swimmer's dive and begin flapping his wings till he begin to spin in a circle. He loves going in circles.
  15. I love how most people to choose to make their own play gyms! They are a lot better and cheaper and you always have many more options on changing it. Brennen and I made with PVC and the base with manzanita, camellia, and rope perches. Ruby playing crazy. He actually unscrewed this toy from the ceiling when he began flying in a circle and holding on to it and fell.
  16. It will be a while before I upload any pictures and videos. There are many and I need to re-size all of them. okay here we are with a little goofy pic of Ruby
  17. Hello everyone, my name is Carol and Bf is Brennen and our 1 year nine month old Congo Grey is Ruby. Ruby is a DNA sexed male and he is precious to me as a Ruby stone, so I gave him his name for that reason when I adopted him regardless of gender. I was hoping he was a female but it really didn't matter to me. I honestly have to admit that Ruby was an impulsive purchase but I don't regret him. He is a symbol of our life commitment and a replacement for a child. The story behind Ruby start with Brennen and I completing our one year requirement in the Conservation Corp and moving in with his father. Four days before we leave I told Brennen I wanted to buy a pet for me because I was for good done with living with my parents. We visit the local pet store in Fortuna (which was were we used to live) and we saw Ruby. I've never seen an African Grey before than but I knew about Alex the African Grey and told my bf about their intelligence. We talked to the sister of the store owner and the store owner/ breeder and I knew by all the question they asked me about my life style and future employment that they really love what they are doing. The owner didn't want to sale me Ruby at first because he was their last baby grey that her breeding pair were able to produce and rather that I took one of her amazons but they were still handing and we told her that we only had a few days before we moved. So she told me to take the week end to think about it and come Monday she felt I really was the perfect home. She told me when I purchased Ruby that if she had more grey he would of been cheap but he was the last and very special, so he was a little pricey but I did get what I paid for. Another reason why I adopted Ruby is because he bit me when I was trying to prevent him from biting one of the baby amazons that were fledgling and land on his cage. Boy he did not like that. I guess I was like "okay now your mine when he bit me". We've had Ruby for a year and 3 months. He was six months when we got him in Sept 09 and he is my little baby and our Avain Vet and behaviorist love him. They tell me that he is the most behavior parrot they see. I must be doing something right. I like to think I am.
