  1. Rose goes to sleep around 9:00 and I don't hear her calling until about 8:00.
  2. Welcome Typhoo Rose is my Timneh African Grey who is 14 years old. She was also DNA tested and is female and microchipped as well. Glad you are here! Keep us posted!
  3. I have never experienced Rose doing that. After lights out, she never makes a sound. I'm not sure but maybe Rita is upset about something?
  4. It does take time to build trust, I found that with Rose. Keep at it and take small steps. It will come!
  5. My name is Michele and I'm new with the forum thing. I hope I am doing stuff right! I have a 14 year old Timneh named Rose that I enherited from my sister.I have had her for 2 years now and have had a crash course on parrot husbandry. I have read lots and did allot of research on line but for the most part it has just been learn as I go. My sister had never taken Rose to the vet which is one of the first things that I did, and glad I did because I learned that it is very important to have your bird examined and have blood tests done regularly because they can be very sick without you knowing it. I am very fortunate to have an avian vet that I am established with and take Rose to every year or less. Rose is a great addition to our family and gives me a reminder of my sister through things she says and the voice she says it in. My Sister passed away a year ago in August. Rose sounds just like her! I am hoping to learn lots of things here and connect with other Grey lovers!
  6. Thank you for that info. I didn't know that about the peanuts and aspergillosis.
  7. I have a 14 year old Grey that I enherited from my Sister about two years ago. At the time that I adopted her she had never been to an avian vet, I promptly took her to one and he told me to switch her from seed diet (which was all she had ever been on) to Harrisons high potency pellets. He said that the pellets are a complete diet, however I do supplement with veggies, fruits and some nuts and seeds in moderation. Because Greys are prone to calcium deficiencies, the high potency pellets are a good fit. I also take Rose yearly to her avian vet for blood work which is very important (which I would have never known) to make sure everything is ok with her. Good luck, I hope maybe this will help you.
  8. I also keep Harrison high potency pellets in Roses cage at all times and only give seeds and peanuts in the shell and other things like that for a treat once a day. I also try and give her fresh veggies once or twice a day. She is fussy about what kind of veggies she eats but we have gotten her to eat things like peas and green beans pretty well. Just keep with it and show her that you eat these things and they seem to want to join!
  9. I know that Rose likes spicy peppers. Red pepper flakes and things like that.
  10. That was a beautiful story of rescue...thanks for sharing!
  11. I am learning as I go with Rose my Grey that I inherited from my sister about 2 years ago. I do know that if I raise my voice about anything, she gets all worked up and excited. I need to be careful about that. She also does this thing where if I don't give her peanuts when she thinks she should have them, she rattles her bowl. The only thing that I can think of doing to discipline her or discourage this behavior is to remove the bowl. It is much like having a toddler in the house really, you have to be thinking all the time how to react to things with them. Lots of work for sure! But well worth every bit!
