  1. Kevin: I lost one of my posts to you, anyway, welcome to this forum - we are both new. Just read, read, read to learn from so many of these knowledgable, experienced bird owners on this forum. I have learned so much from reading these interesting threads. My CAG is 8 mo. old and it has been a learning experience. He seems to be a biter and has been from the beginning 4 mos. ago. My husband has a better bond with him, even tho I feed him and am with him all day every day. I am leary of him and he probably knows it. He is not noisy, sleeps well, plays alone alot, interacts with us, and is all around a great bird from some of things I read. Good luck with your bird - keep posting and learning. Donna
  2. Christiana: I am a Congo African Grey owner and have found priceless information by belonging to this forum. We bought our grey from a pet store and he came with no instructions. We purchased books and went to a "bird paradise" store with over 30 years experience. I spend a lot of time on this forum just reading all the comments - there are so many members with so much experience to learn from. Good luck with your endeavor in getting a parrot - it is a different kind of pet from a cat or dog, but it will enrich your life.
  3. These pictures are just beautiful. Wish I could figure out how to post pictures, but haven't quite figured out the multiple things available on this forum. Maybe with time I can put a picture of my Grey on a post, until then, just some comments to commend you on these wonderful pictures. My daughter lives in Colorado and it sure is beautiful there as well - NJ is not in any competion for beauty like you have.
  4. Everyone has such consideration for others in this thread and this is what is needed - respect for the fact that everyone is different, just like the birds we love.
  5. I, as a new member, want to tell you this message on "RESPECT" was very tactful and full of purpose. I also belong to a poodle forum and find the same situations happening at times. I avoid any situation by remembering the real purpose of a forum is to share and learn. As it was mentioned by someone - we have been linked together as a family by owning African Greys. I have read such interesting things, have learned so much and look forward to increased knowledge about these wonderful creatures.
  6. Jayd: I just joined the forum and must say, you have such interesting things to tell all of us parrot owners - thank you so much. I enjoy reading everything you have to say, you must have a lot of experience. We have only had our AG about 4 months now and I have learned so much from this forum (don't know how to do some things on it yet) but will keep trying. Donna

    Palm Nuts!

I bought palm nuts from "Bird Paradise" in Burlington, NJ - they take on-line orders and will ship anything to you. Even though it is 50 miles away, we visited the store several months ago and were impressed with all the birds, as well as their inventory - it was amazing. Our African Grey loved the palm nuts - we can not get them at any of the local pet stores.
  8. Yes, I would like to be a member of your club, my name is Donna. I cannot go near our AG without him aggressively trying to bite my fingers or hand (keep in mind that my hand is the one that feeds him everyday). He is 8 months old now and we have had him since he was 4 months old. It wasn't as bad when we first got him as it is now. My husband only gets an occasional bite - I think he knows I am apprehensive of him; I try not to act like I am, but he might feel it. I was wondering if it is because I hand him different food throughout the day and he is expecting food every time? I am going to just feed him enough to last during the day and try this approach. Thanks for the invitation to your club.
  9. This story is such a learning tool for many first-time parrot owners. We are such people and have made many mistakes along the way in the last 4 months of ownership. We do not have any major problems aside from the biting at times. It is wonderful to hear of others experiences with these great winged creatures that probably would be really happy to live in a warm climate flying from tree to tree. We all strive to make their lives as peaceful and happy as possible in our homes. Thanks again for your story.
  10. We live in Southern NJ and we bought the CAG, large cage, toys, food, etc. as a package deal and the total was about $1,100 - they gave us a good deal because we bought a poodle, 2 bearded dragon lizards and this bird from them over the past 4 years.
  11. God bless Mia. May she have a very wonderful, happy, healthy life. She has a beautiful family to share her life.
