  1. My birds respond well to cashew pieces and pine nuts as treats.
  2. Thanks for the update. We are all certainly pulling for Kopi. Sounds like he is getting excellent care.
  3. Way to go, Jack! @Judy: My little head-landers take advantage of me when I have both hands busy working in the bird room.
  4. All our birds like the boings. Moussa the grey has one in his cage, just like the other birds. I think of them like a stairway they can use to get from one level to another in the cage,as well as a comfy perch. I also have some boings and other hanging toys hanging from the ceiling in the bird room. Moussa loves to go in there and climb and play. Unfortunately, I only let him play in there when the cockatoo is not loose in the room, as she will fly at him and attack him. (I'm hoping that, with time, they will get along better.) In the meantime, we are planning to set up Moussa's own hanging play gym in the living area of the house, where he lives.
  5. Aw, now there you go, Jayd, getting me all teary again. Thanks for the lovely reminder.
  6. Wow! All this talk about pumpkins is giving me the notion to go out and get a small one for our fids. There are certainly plenty of them available this time of year.
  7. Welcome Happy! That's a good name. When I was a little girl, I had a little green budgie named Happy. With all the love and good care your baby will get, she is sure to live up to her name.
  8. That was really cute. I think Dorian is just trying to join in! Don't know about Dorian, but I liked your singing!
  9. I traveled to the western coast Camping in my van I loved the blue green waters most And soft, white sand. New word: juice
  10. We had our Moussa DNAd when he was a baby to learn the sex. We had a girl and a boy name picked out, and we called him Possum until we learned which he was. There's a Mayan tribe that calls their babies Possum until the naming ceremony, and I always thought that was cute. I think choosing a name for a new baby is a lot of fun.
  11. What a great story. Thanks for sharing.
  12. What I was told by the proprietor of our local bird store is that the colored newspaper dyes used to be an issue, but that now they have all gone to a different type of dye which is not a problem.
  13. Welcome. Sounds like you're off to a great start with a great baby. I like the name Neo. I had considered that one as well. It also reminds me of the cool character in the "Matrix" movie.
  14. Cool! Sounds like Sully is really coming into his own. I expect he will be surprising you with lots of new things in the coming months. It's great that he's warming up to your husband. I've learned that it's really important with greys to encourage socializing with all members of the family. Moussa has chosen me as his favorite, but I encourage my husband to take Moussa upstairs to his "man cave" with him occasionally, so my two guys can hang out together. Lol! I don't think it's too early, if you want to teach him some tricks. Keep the training sessions short and fun.
  15. Great news! Thanks. Sounds like Angel is starting to feel more trusting of his environment. Good progress.
  16. I think Spencer is probably fine. My grey makes poops that look a lot like this. The amount of urine can vary a lot from poop to poop. It doesn't really look like diarrhea, as there are well formed stools in it. Also, the Zupreem Fruit Blend pellets can give the poops different colors.
  17. Oh, my, Chris. So sorry about the finger injury. These rascals do have some powerful beaks. Could you perhaps try allowing Bobby to come out of the cage on his own when he's ready? It will take him a while to settle in to his new home and to become more relaxed and at ease. Don't expect too much from him too early. Things may still feel a little scary for him right now. I'm sure others will have some good advice for you. And welcome to the forum!
  18. Thanks for the laugh, and congratulations on the breakthrough! I must say, I'm impressed with your persistence. A lesson for us all in not giving up.
  19. Welcome, Your art is beautiful, and your mare is gorgeous! Can't wait to hear more about your new baby. You are right about greys being very full of personality. Ours is a real little character with a mind of his own. My husband says it's more like having a little extra-terrestrial in the house than another bird.
  20. That is a BRILLIANT idea!!!!! LOL!!! We also have cages for some of the items in the house, like the radio/CD player in the bird room and the wireless internet router in the living room. Probably looks pretty weird to visitors. The kitchen appliances are arranged in a decorator style I call "circle the wagons." They're in little clusters against the counter outlets with their cords all bunched up and hidden behind them. I found the coolest leopard print towels to drape over my African drums to protect them, as Moussa loves to perch on them. I do everything I can think of to parrot proof the house, but I'm still constantly running around saying, "No, Moussa!" Sigh. The joys of parronthood!
  21. Corky appears to be a popular bird! Nice that your bird seems so comfortable around different people.
  22. I'm wondering what the collective wisdom is on the question of washing bird dishes in the dish washer, as opposed to washing them by hand? I've heard that dishwasher detergent can leave a harmful residue. I've tried washing them in the dishwasher with Seventh Generation dishwasher detergent, which is supposed to be non-toxic, but it doesn't rinse very well and tends to leave a residue.
  23. Wow! What a rush that would be to have your bird fly along with you like that! (But I'm sure not gonna try it, lol!)
  24. Crack head, huh? I'd like to crack his head.
  25. All these birdies so happily enjoying their showers. And my Moussa runs and complains and acts like I'm spraying him with acid. Did your birds always enjoy their shower? Or did they have to get used to it? Any tips for me?
