  1. Her nose was dry all day yesterday soon after.....dry today all day, I peek every once in a while. She did tonight sneeze, firsr time in days, iactually dont remember the last time she sneezed, then I looked and one nostril seemed wet inside, then 30 minutes later dry again.....must not be anything serious as she is perfectly normal, just 1 sneeze....I still keep an eye for anything out of the usual.
  2. she's not sneezing or anything, and I cover her up at night with i nice thick sheet, and the vent above her and any other neighboring vents are closed. I'll keep a close eye on it and her for a day or two and see.
  3. I just noticed today she shook her head and her beak had a tiny droplet, and I thought hmm, so i looked up close and I could see both her nostrils were wet inside, one more than the other, it wasnt water because she was perched on my monitor for a while. So, what am I potentially looking at?
  4. Ok, I just want to make sure its not bad to let them do this, in case it caused any changes in behavior....loads of fun to watch though. I'll see if i capture a clip with my phone and upload to youtube.
  5. I have a toy that is usually inside her cage, but she doesnt play with it, so i hung it from the ladders on her playtop where she usually spends time, the toy is just 5 small wood beads and a medium size plastic ball with a noise thingamajig inside.....well she will get the ball with a foot and chew on it, and rub it on her face and neck as she does with most things even food, she has a habit of rubbing them on her neck.....but thats not the issue, she will start striking the ball repeatedly as if she were fighting with it, then suddenly she will grab it and play with it, then she lets go, ad moments later she will attack it again, its super funny to watch, but wondering if this is ok to let her do it. She does the same thing to paper towels or toilet paper if she sees me try to clean anything near her with it, she will attack it and take a piece and play with it or shred it. If I try to touch her beak when she's like this she's fine with me, its the paper or this toy she does this with. there is a toy that came with her, that every night on her way to where she sleep in her cage, she will go buy this other toy and strike it once and keep going about her business, she doesnt fight with it, but its ritual every night she does it because i hear the bell ring and ive watched her do it.
  6. I actually moved her away from there and put her near my livingroom so when im watching tv she's only a few feet away, but I usually put her on her perch next tome or shoulder her for a while. Last week I gave her a Tostitos tortilla chip, and wow now she goes crazy for them, if she hears me with the bag from a distance she starts pacing waiting for me to bring her one, seems to be her favorite treat so far.
  7. These are the only pictures I have so far: http://picasaweb.google.com/abcogroup1/TimnehAfricanGreyMeggie# She's been on my shoulder while I been on here for a while, I looked over my shoulder and on several ocassions she's been leaning over with her neck bente and her nech feathers all fluffed trying to rub on my cheek trying to steal a nech scratch, so cute....I'm sooo happy/excited to have finally been able to get to this point with her. It's a special feeling to be able to have this kind of bond between human and bird.
  8. I am reading and responding to these 1 at a time, and just got to this one, so here's my "rightful" response in my defense: Do you know me? Have we ever met? Have I called you a MORON as you call me? You call me a Moron and in the same sentence say "sorry if I offended you"...? Then you go on to say "Jeez..sometimes I don't know what gets into people on this forum", you should be banned for your ignorance and behavior, not sure why mods didnt do so upn reading your IGNORANT response. whats worse, my ignorance with birds, or your IGNORANCE and acting childish with insults? Why didn't this guy get banned?
  9. I laughed so hard almost knocked Meggie of my shoulder when I read this......I'm a guy (Jon)
  10. I have decided I will remain a 1 bird person....I have been enjoying how my relationship with Meggie has been turning out.
  11. You dont "have" to read my threads, its not "required reading"....I'll be fine if you dont read them. I don't need/care for hostility.
  12. what is that suppose to mean? Is this "personal" attempt at getting directly offensive towards me? Do you know me as a person? Have I offended you personally or anyone in here? So is that what this forum is about, someone disagrees with something an individual does so go and offend them and be judgmental? If thats what this community is about, then I don't want any part of it. At least some have been polite enough to pm me with concerns and follow up, in a respectful concerned manner, those are the type of people I try to align myself with.
  13. As mentioned above, search for my "update" on my relationship with my grey. In the meantime, if you don't like my thread, no one asked you to read it or comment. Mods, please close this thread from further comments.
  14. 1) Look up my thread on an update to me and my grey, things have improved by leaps and bounds. 2) DONT even go there, my son has a hearing issue, he doesnt even like going to the movie theater anymore, last time I had to take ear plugs for him......he cried once in a 3D movie in Disney that splashed water on him unexpectedly....so DO NOT go there.....if there is anything that bothers my son I get rid of it, he comes before any BIRD! 3) Congratulations, there is a 1st time for everything, now you can ad that one to your list. 4) I don't care to hear comments like this....and quite simply I can go to another board and not have to deal with it. As a matter of fact, if a mod can lock this thread, as I don't care to hear anymore comments like this, and will not return to read any updates to this thread.
  15. UPDATE: Meggie will now step up while in her cage without making any attempt to strike, although the very second i open the cage in the morning she is ready to come out. When I use to ask her to let me scratch, she'd always come to my finger and rub her beak instead, and nibble, so I instead now tell her let me rub your beak and she does it, i really dont have to say anything she just lets me even grab her beak playing. So seeing as she has given me more trust I began to try and pet her near mid back to see how she reacted, naturally they don't really like that, but she didnt strike, I did this over the course of 1 to 2 days, and moved closer to her head, she did a couple of times like go to my finger and i let her because i figured by now if she had wanted to bite me she would have, so i let her and all she did was just touch my finger, non threatening.....but now i can totally put my hand over hear, touch her wings, slightly under her wings, give her a kis on her head. So all in all I can show her more affection without any fear getting bit, its such an awesome feeling to have gained that trust and not have to fear her bite anymore. And she has also suprised me with some new learned sounds, such as a "cackle" laugh, really funny, does it all the time, and whistleing more tunes. I have given her a 50/50 aloe vera spray bottle bath once before, she didnt like it much, flew away a few times....today I took her to the garage so I could spray without worrying about the floor, and sprayed her good, she's so funny, she will pin her eyes and say "woooo" or do this "phew" type whistle and do this head/nech retraction she does, then if the bottle gets close she will go for the nozzle.....but she didnt fly away no matter how much i sprayed her. Ah, its so great.
  16. Well, in anycase its previous owners were moving out of state in a week so they were going to be rehomed. I have a couple of interested parties who I've screened as good home. My son is 4yrs old, when I had the quaker and the quaker screamed it startled my son, and it was ear piercing scream for a little quaker, these macaws dont have just an ear piercing scream, they sound like a Taredactyl, not like I ever heard one, but you know what I mean, its a morbid, eery scream, not a regular parrot call....and it scared the crap out of me when i was just standing there and they did it, i can imagine my son in front of the cage tryung to alk to them and get that in his face.....I care more for my son, and dont want his heart to jump out of his chest, plus it will make him think all birds are like that affecting him on how he trusts Meggie. These birds are not going to die because I find them a new home, provided its a good home and experienced people. But, I have learned a lesson, just because a bird plays with you and steps up, shoulders in their owners home, doesnt mean they will do it in mine.....I lucked out with Meggie.....so now that ive seen this is possible, im not going to even bother looking at craigslist.
  17. I didn't know adapting would be this difficult, just this morning I was talking to them and he starting screaming again, same thing last night....I'm afraid to open their cage and let them out because at night i had to put most the lights out for them to go back in, and I know my son will be terrified today when he comes over and hears that scream, he's like that, plus it will scare the living daylights out of him. I'm going to stop looking in Craigslist, I thought maybe I could get lucky and find another bird like my TAG, she's only been with me a week and a half, yet she's such a sweetheart....I may have to either get these birds back to their previous owner, although they are moving up north in a week, so they themselves would be finding these birds a new home, I've gone ahead in the meantime as the days go by to see if they dont do that anymore, and placed an ad on craigs......thats it, after these i am seriosuly, 100% done and just giving my Meggie undevided attention.
  18. My TAG Meggie, has only vocalized Peek a Boo in a really cute childlike way, she mumbles a couple things very low, they always sound the same but I cant make out what it is, she says "beep" and also does a beep, she does about 4 different whistles which I love...but there is something she says in a low tone but everytime she's said it I can swear it sounds like "oh $hit", oh and this sound that sounds like a long queezy fart. My new Severe Macaws the male says "Hello", Okay, and some other things I'm trying to figure out what they are, but I just got them today. Cant wait till my Meggie starts to say whatever it is she said in her former home, they said she had a wide vocabulary, unless they lied.
  19. Thats a cool stand, I actually had found that same model doing a search online for pvc perches: http://cdelatorre-nest.blogspot.com/2008/07/new-parrot-playstand-design.html, I was going to build it as well this weekend, I'm just not decided if I want to wrap it with twine, and if I do, where would the ends go? Or what is that material you guys are using to wrap the pvc? Is that 1/2" pvc? Thanks, Jon, in Florida too, Spring Hill, just north of Tampa, on the Gulf.
  20. Thanks everyone, the names they had I can't say I like very much, but wont change it on them, the male Scooter, the female Hooter. Its funny while I was at the sellers house although slightly reluctant, they did both step up, and both shouldered, owners said they absolutely do not scream, unless they are seprated they will scream (eerily) for each other....I figured I could deal with that as I would always have them together, if you shoulder one you have to shoulder both....no problem......well once setup here, they will not step up now, they move away from me, and the male a few sporadic times began screaming non stop, while i was in the living room, and even when i was out of sight, weird, and boy is it a loud scream, I know it will definetly terrify my son when he comes over tomorrow if they repeat this. Hopefully it was just a sign of being upset, and will wear off, because I was told they are not screamers at all, by the previous owners.....so Im hoping it will not reoccur tomorrow once they realize this is their new home, and hopefully loosen up and step up, because they sure were fun while i was at their previous home, playing silly, they did let me touch them without incident.
  21. Yesterday I had looked into a ducorps cockatoo, turned it down. Today I found on craigs a pair (male & fem) of Severe Macaws, 5yrs old each, were hand fed, they say a few words, are friendly, but both need to be together, they have this intense love for each other, they cannot be apart. Here's some photos of them: http://picasaweb.google.com/abcogroup1/SevereMacaws# Fortunately I was able to have them step up, shoulder, and they even let me touch them, which I havent been able to do with my TAG, although the female if she doesnt want to be touched she will give a minor vocal warning, which I didnt know when what it meant when I was at the previous owners house and she surprised me and got my finger really fast, freaked me out, but she did not even put any pressure so I'm glad...the owner says that is as far as she will go, and the male will do it, but instead of latching on he strikes but only to bump you with the outside of his beak.....but they still let you touch them for the most part.....I'm so excited with my new friends. They are so beautiful, and adorable....I'm so glad I got them.....but my TAG Meggie is still my #1, I have them about 3ft away from each other, she seems to be doing fine. I'll still take her in the mornings with me to my office so she spends more time with me. Anyways, i was excited, thought i'd share.
  22. JungleDreamz, I like it, roomy....my cage is only 24"wide x 22" deep, she's been in it for 6yrs, at least thats what previous owner says, wondering if since she is out of her cage most of the time, if it would even be worth it to go larger, or keep her in what she's been used to.
  23. Yes, the poop, I'm trying to work on potty training....lets see how she behaves, i might leave a camera on her afew times when i leave.
