12 weeks seems early to me as well, ours seemed to stop at about 16-17 weeks although not every grey is the same, maybe if you think you're having problems offer a small amount of both foods Although I'm no expert ...just a thought

Just another tid bit - with the regular cages, you don't need to put the tray under the play top. We don't, we leave it off all the time so that Oscar can have light, even when he plays on top he perches on the sides of the cage, his atom or the play stand rather then on the flat tray.

http://www.magicyellow.com/category/Pet_Shops/Fort_Collins_co.html here you go, not sure if any of these places are good or not though

bring a lot of his favourite treats and keep calling! we are all praying for his return home

I'm not having this problem....yet anyways with oscar. Usually he will let me pet him or pick him up with no hassle.(He does not know step up yet, but usually will step up if you put hour hand infront of him - guess he wants to be picked up) Although if he does get testy usually he wants to be left alone. So we give him a time out, we leave the room for a few minutes and then come back and usually he is better.

Oh no, that terrible I hope he is found and safe!

Really, Oscar loves the large plastic beads on most of his toys, just to break them off. What about those large plastic soothers that are on a lot of toys. All of those paper toys as well or bottle caps (plastic) i think are ok..as long as they are cleaned ahead of time.

Welcome How rude, of the store owner to reprimand you from doing what you think best. I can tell you that most members here disagree with clipping. And frankly you should just tell the owner that you value her opinion but you disagree and she needs to mind their own business or you may be forced not to shop there anymore. (you know if it gets that bad I guess). Maybe you can find another store or perhaps shop online. if you go almost 2-3 times a week I'm sure you could spend enough to get free shipping. But congrats on sticking to your guns I would love to see some pictures one day.

Oscar also goes to sleep at around 10:30 or 11 every night. At around 10pm (or if we see he's tired) we put him in his cage if he doesn't go by himself and cover it and he has a quick snack. We then continue to watch t.v. with the lights off and volume lowered until about 11pm and either he will be already asleep or he knows that means lights out.

Yes he seems to just be small, he weighed about 416 when we brought him home and then he dropped to 370 and now he is at 390. He did go to see the avian vet and she said he was fine we switched his food, and he is eating fine now. I guess he is just a picky eater He also had blood work done and everything came back fine.

Oscar seems to be scratching a lot and picking his nose pretty often, a few times daily. Is this normal, should I be concerned? Maybe the 100% aloe would help?
-
He was on pellets before he left the store but they were hagens i believe, we did give him a few trial pellets of harrisons while he was still at the store to see if he liked them and he ate them so we figured that he would be fine with it. but now he only has harrisons, so i assume it will take awhile for him to adjust.

We bathed oscar at about 3.5 months and he did not like a bath as some dont but he didnt mind the spray bottle. We have not given him one since he has been home though, maybe we should tomorrow to see how he takes to it.

On friday night Oscar finally came home. He was obviously a little scared so we let him look around and get comfortable with the room he will be staying in and his new home. He did not sleep on friday night which is not a surprise. On Saturday he seemed very comfortable and he got up at 6am and woke us all up with his bell He got some food (Harrisons - which im a little concerned because hes never had only harrisons as his base pellet) he did eat some though. He did lose a little weight as he didn't weigh a lot before he came home. only 416 grams i think he was, and he is now about 389. i havent yet looked today so maybe he has gained a bit. A friend from the pet store is comming by today to take a look and see if hes doing ok. We introduced him to some new foods - fruits and veg - so that we can start to incorporate them into hi diet and to see what he prefers (so far seedless grapes[no skin] and corn) he also while looking around his room came across the toys we bought him(under the cage in a bucket) and decided to check them out and play with them so we decided he was ok with them and hung a few inside and above. He took right away to the atom and flew to it as soon as he saw it. Sunday There was a family gathering at home (no kids) and he got to interact with some new members on a one to one basis with new people at first and we gave him a lot of praise when he would let someone new pet him or show affection. He got to sit outside for a bit too(when everyone left) in his outdoor cage in the afternoon. He seemed content and not scared at all but it was only for a short period of time (maybe 10 min) and then he went inside and had some lettuce and then it was his bedtime routine. He watches tv with us(while hes in his cage) from about 10-11pm and then at 11pm its bedtime. Now i assume the transition went extremely smoothly because he was already comfortable with us and trusted us because we would visit with him for a few hours every day (4 months now) but obviously we know that there still are new things for him and we are trying to keep him as stress free as possible. But we are so happy that he is home now we are just waiting for his vet appointment.

Oscar recently started flying, although due to the "baby clip" he cannot fly around the room. (Which we did not ask for him to be clipped [3 feathers only] we went in and found out they had done it...we intend to let them grow back) he still seems to be getting around. obviously with more practice he will get better. He is about 3 months now and we were told we should have him home in about 2 weeks if everything goes well. Here is a video of oscar and his cage mate Ruby sitting around - it seems they are just copying each other sqwaking. Here is his first flight and here when he is more comfortable flying and oscar with his favourite foot toy

Sometimes Oscar gets scared of random things where a few minutes before he was fine and playing with them, maybe its just frustration....but i'm sure it also has to do with him being very young.
-
On Saturday Oscar flew for the first time he deff needs some practice but he has to start somewhere lol, we are so proud of him and for the past few days he can't seem to stay in one spot! theres a video on his blog.

Danmcq - unfortunately both don't have bands. When they hatched the breeder had so many of them that there was just no time for him to put on bands/maybe he didn't have enough... We have tried to find him one for a quil fix while at the pet store but no luck. There is a thread in the grey lounge titled "no leg band" I would link to it but on my phone it wobt allow me for some reason but with out both it seems to be fine and there has been no more confusion, when the other owners come, they store staff will go in and hand them their parrot rather than have them guess who is who

as an update which i didn't post before he has only had 3 feathers clipped and can still fly when he seems to want to get somewhere but we will be letting them grow back.
