  1. Little Spencer just dropped this. This is different from any of his other poos I've seen all week. I've had him for 8 days, he is about 18 wks, CAG, and he had a full checkup (physical, blood and stool tests) at an avian vet last Saturday and was A-OK. Over the past 24 hours he's eaten zupreem fruit pellets, thawed frozen vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots), a couple grapes, a piece of orange, a nutriberry and almond. Is this just an increase in urine from the watery foods or is this diarrhea or some other poo problem I should be concerned about?
  2. Ok, cutting some slack is no problem! Im just a nervous first-time mommy wanting to make sure *I* wasn't doing anything wrong already lol! And yep, I noticed he's not quite "graceful"... I can relate.... here's a quick picture, will definitely post more soon!
  3. Just brought home my 4 mo old CAG Spencer today I'm curious about what is "normal" in terms of how hard they nibble on your fingers and if its just too hard, how to discourage it... or will he just chill out on his own after he gets to know me and trust my hand? He likes to check out my fingers when I am close to him or the cage, and also when I try to get him to step on my hand... and while actually holding him as well. I know they will nibble to see if its secure to step on, but he's nibbled hard enough for me to pull away quite a few times, and I have a pretty high tolerance for pain! (it will start off lightly then he will press harder..harder...harder... yikes!) Am I doing something wrong? Other than that he seems to be doing okay for his first day, eating and drinking and checking out his cage and already started to demolish one of his toys.
  4. Whoops, I forgot this site doesn't notify you of more posts unless you visit the page again. I'm sorry I didn't see the replies till now! Firstly, caleigha, I didn't see anything wrong with your post at all It actually all came to about $270 + shipping. Not so bad really, thats like 10 large toys! And I hope I can make more than 10 large toys with all that! These toys don't spoil, so, assuming and hoping I'll have my new friend for a long time to come, its not like they won't all be used eventually. I'm a crafter that likes to have everything handy first, then I can put stuff together. So this is great fun! I'm in a small place too. It all fits into one box, and I'm just planning on keeping it all in a box in the closet or under the bed. With the cage and playgym coming, a box of toys is the least of the space concern! ;D Thanks everyone, I'll post more pics once I have made something worth showing.. LOL
  5. Its on sale here: http://www.fancyparrotboutique.com/fm213.html I actually got this for my future grey... now I know what I am in for... lol!
  6. I think I'm enjoying it more than he will! He will probably wind up being one of those "forget the toy, give me the cardboard box it came in" kinda kids... LOL
  7. Getting ready for Spencer's homecoming in September, scoffed at the price of retail toys and thought, I'll make my own! Found cabirdnerds.com and umm... just kept clicking "add to cart".... and this is the result... just opened it.. it was like Christmas! lol! I love all the colors! I hope this keeps him busy for a good long while! (I know actually *making* the toys should keep ME busy!) I was very impressed with all of it, very nice color assortments and packaged superbly, and nothing missing! It looked innocent enough all packed together... But then it turned into this...
  8. I work at home and I usually play music half the day just to entertain myself while at the computer, singing along quite a bit too I don't have my first grey yet, but I'm wondering how he will react to it - will he be yelling along to it? Sitting quietly unable to concentrate on anything else while wondering what that blasted noise is? Or just doing whatever usual playing/chattering/squawking he would do as if the music wasn't on? Providing that the music isn't too loud, would there be any negative long term effects to having him sit in a room with me listening to various music a couple hours a day? Sorry if any of this is obvious... still new and learning! Thanks in advance!
  9. Have my first grey coming in a few months and I am trying to pick out the best cage! So far, this is my top choice, but opinions on this from experienced owners are appreciated! Is the size, spacing, and play top appropriate? Thanks guys! Dimensions: 40 " x 30 " x 75 " Inside Height: 47 " Bar Spacing: 1 "
  10. Thanks all for the warm welcome!
  11. Hi everyone! My name is Lori and I've been lurking around the forum reading for a while, but I finally put down a deposit for my first grey so I thought it was time to say hi! Been wanting to bring a grey into the family for years, but couldn't due to living situation and lack of space... but that is changing soon so I took the plunge! Little "Spencer" should be coming home in September! I am very excited! Been researching everything to do with them (cages, diet, health, toys, attention/interaction, behavior issues, etc) and I think I'm as prepared as anyone can be, though I'm sure when he arrives it will be more overwhelming than expected! Last night I was up late into the night on a website piling all kinds of bird toy parts into my shopping cart. When it reached $160 and about 2:30am I figured I better stop and just go to bed. LOL! This guy is going to be the end of me! Looking forwards to chatting with you all! I'm sure I'll be posting questions and updates as the days pass, though it will be about 8 more weeks until the babies are sexed by the breeder and my specific bird is picked out for me (Breeder is too far away to visit, so I'll be meeting Spencer for the first time at the airport!) Thanks everyone!
