  1. Welcome Shara! He looks beautiful! And the fact that he reciprocated what you've been telling him - well, I think he'll settle in soon enough Positive reinforcement is a great way of training!
  2. Welcome FlyFree! I had to call 19 breeders before I found an available baby grey when I was looking for one (in 1999). They were ALL spoken for otherwise! Good luck on your search!
  3. Welcome Salgar and Carla. Just reading some of the past posts and as per pp's advice, you should be able to work with Carla. Best of luck and enjoy!
  4. Ha ha - sounds like our goofball, Merlin. I've had Merlin since he was 6 weeks old (in 1999), and he's been with me through A LOT! I've ben his one constant in life, yet, as soon as he met Husband, he follows him around like a lost puppy dog. He just ADORES Husband. He likes me, lets me do everything Husband does to him, but he doesn't look around the house for me or do his wing bouncy thing when *I* come into the room. *sigh*
  5. Hello Dogu & Jack!! What an adorable avatar picture! I hope he steps up for you soon - they can be a bit stubborn at times.
  6. Welcome Jen & Earl! My boss's boyfriend's African Grey is also named Earl
  7. What a chunky monkey! He/she looks very alert I miss handfeeding tiels - they were always so good for me.

  12. Welcome John! I hope you're able to add a grey to your family soon! I had to call 19 breeders before finding one available when looking for Merlin.

  19. Hi Electra! Welcome to you, the TAG that has yet to be named , Bibi, Butters, and Eva! Just give him time, nd he should get used to the new wonderful things and animals in your household
  20. Yes - a good toy rotation on a weekly basis is necessary to help prevent boredom. And a variety of materials (i.e. not just plastic or wood) but incorporate different textures, and definitely start him with some foraging toys to help stimulate his mind, and lots of preening type toys to encourage positive (aka not over indulging himself) preening. Merlin loves foraging boxes, wreaths with fleece bits, birdie bagels, straws, cholla and yucca woods, seagrass cord - and more. There's a whole world of different textures for your little one to enjoy And if you can bring him to different places/car rides - you haven't ridden a car properly until you've enjoyed it with a grey making sound effects Merlin has a small dog cage (his temp/vacation/car cage) he rides in, and loves it.
  21. Welcome Sidney, It will take time and patience. It can take years to be able to even have a misguided parrot step up for you. In time, he'll hopefully come around.
  22. I'd take my relationship with our birds over fancy tricks. Merlin does go on his back like a baby for Husband, and "High Four" which he was taught by someone else while I worked with parrots & brought Merlin along to work with me. The laying on his back thing is more of a trust and comfy thing for Merlin...and hey, he gets off his feet . I'm just happy he's Merlin, tricks or no tricks. His personality and our time together surpasses everything else.
  23. Congratulations! You must be so excited Your cage is similar in design to ours - Merlin sleeps at the top part during the night, and naps underneath the playstand part during the day. His does have a balcony that opens up at the top, and this is his preferred means of escaping some days
