  1. What a great Christmas gift. Emma seems to really love it after she warmed up to it. Thank you for sharing the video. Merry Christmas:)
  2. Okay so it's Cockatoo style but it's still cute for bird lovers. I am sorry if I posted this in the wrong place. Merry Christmas everyone:) http://www.birdtricks.com/blog/the-night-before-christmas-cockatoo-style/
  3. I am so sorry to hear about Sindbad. Do your best to stay strong and not blame yourself. I have read of people who lost their bird and can still hear them in their yard years later. These people have suggested looking at night when they are most likely to be making noise. Search high and low because he may be under things as well. Some of the stories I read suggest getting night vision goggles. This helped the people see their bird and call to him. Try getting a cage outside with his favorite treats. Try this website to report him lost http://www.birdhotline.com/replost.htm This one is some tips http://www.cafabirdclub.org/lost.htm You and Sindbad are in my thoughts and prayers. Stay strong and never give up. Keep the faith.<br><br>Post edited by: caseyandmikey, at: 2009/12/24 20:08
  4. Thank you very much for the response Dave. It is good to know I can use a little bit of dishwashing liquid. I'm sure the toys will stay clean for about a day as you said they are always sure to make a mess. What else could we have to do with our time other than cleaning their lovely messes?
  5. Mikey's caretaker was kind enough to take some holiday photos of him for us. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season and a safe and healthy new year. http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/MikeyChristmas.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/MikeyChristmas3.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/MikeyChristmas2.jpg
  6. I have ordered many toys anticipating Mikey's homecoming. Do you suggest I sterilize them before I let him play with them? If so what is the best way to do so? Thank you for your help.
  7. What a sweet picture. If only us humans accepted one another as animals accept each other we would live in a much better world. They are so cute together
  8. Thank you everyone for lighting a candle in Juno's memory. As bird/animal lovers we know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet. It is up to us to be there for each other when the unthinkable occurs. Together we can help Juno's family stay strong and help Juno's memory live. I will never understand why such bad things happen to such good people.
  9. Please light a candle in loving memory of a beautiful parrot whose life was cut much too short. Our thoughts are with his family. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi=Juno
  10. I know words can't take your pain away I just want to be sure to extend my hand during this hard time. I just read through your thread about Juno's first year last night. It was so nice to see how excited you were waiting for him to arrive. It is such a long process until the baby comes home. Your happiness should have lasted a lifetime. I am so sorry it only lasted a month. I truly hope you find some answers. Just stay strong and find comfort in knowing you gave a beautiful bird a wonderful home. It is not the quantity of life it is the quality. Juno definitely had a wonderful quality of life. I am so sorry it didn't last longer. Stay strong and watch Juno fly to rainbow bridge.
  11. My 2 dogs Jellybean and Skippy would just like to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday season http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Skippychristmas2.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Skippychristmas1.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Jellychristmas3.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Jellychristmas2.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Jellychristmas1.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/Skippychristmas3.jpg http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz231/nsscjl/JellyandSkippychristmastree.jpg
  12. Aww Beau is a cutie he looks like he's having a lot of fun. Great picture
  13. That is a good point I just thought I read of people letting their birds play with stuffed animals. It's not worth the risk though. Thank you
  14. Is it okay to let them play with toys that have stuffing in them with no beads? Can the stuffing hurt them?
  15. Thank you very much for your input. It seem like harrisons and zupreem are the most popular so it is nice to hear that someone dos use this brand. Thank you for letting me know that harrisons is the best bet I'll be sure to try that first although it seems like a lot of birds tend to dislike it.
  16. It is probably better to not let the cats around them but I was thinking of letting him play on these things when the cats are not around. I just have never heard of any effects cat nip or the cats fur can have on a bird
  17. This is a food I came across a while ago. Does anyone use it? Whether you do you don't do you have any opinons on it? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+5911+6128&pcatid=6128
  18. To any Grey owners that have cats and cat houses- do you allow your bird to play on them? I have some nice play things for my cats that have cat nip on them and I was thinking of letting my bird play on them until I get a play gym. Can the cat nip or anything about these things hurt him? Any information is greatly appreicated. Thank you
  19. Thank you pearllyn and jillybeanz. That's a great picture of Harvey he really seems to be enjoying that bone.
  20. Welcome to the forum. It is a long process trying to find the right breeder so I wish you the best of luck. Try this site just click find a breeder then select the state and type of Grey you want. http://www.birdbreeders.com/ good luck
  21. I have read a little bit about this process but I am a little confused on what I should do during this time. Do I have to pull out the blood feathers or do I just let everything happen naturally? How often does it happen? Thank you in advance and sorry it is probably a very stupid and obvious question to most out there lol.
  22. I am sorry I am not sure if this is in the right place. I just would like to know some of the general rules for bathing. Mikey will be 4 months old when he comes home. At that age is it okay to start bringing him into the shower on a perch or should I start with spray bathing? Either way what kind of temperature should the water be? Whenever he is ready to come in the shower with me is it okay that he is in there while I use shampoo, soap, etc or is this dangerous for him to smell? Thank you for your help.
  23. Thank you everyone for your input it is truly appreciated. A few last things I would like to know if you don't mind. I have regular cat carriers is it okay to bring him home in one of those or does he need a bird carrier? Also when he comes home what should I do firt? Should I just put him in his cage and leave him alone or should I stay with him to get him used to everything? Any information on these topics is appreciated. Thank you again.

    Meat

Do you Greys require meat and if so how often and what kind? I have also seen people give their birds dog food, treats and bones. Are those things okay for them to have as treats? I give my dogs marrow soup bones sometimes and they love them would these be okay for the bird? Thank you in advance.
  25. Thank you very much judygram and jillybeanz. I love that username it reminds me of one of my dogs whose name is jellybean lol. Sometimes it is hard to ask questions because they do seem silly so thank you for the reassurance. I have read that our saliva, dogs saliva and cats saliva can kill a Grey. But I have read from a few people who have had their dog lick their bird and he was fine. There are a lot of videos of birds riding on the dogs back or sitting with the cat while he eats. One of my dogs licks everything and everyone. Though I will do my best to prevent this would it be okay if she got one lick in here and there? People kiss their birds all the time that is okay right? I just mean on the feathers not on the beak. Although my friend's Grey has had his head in her mouth and has been fine. I just want to be sure I can kiss his head and body. I do plan on bringing Mikey on walks with the dogs with his aviator harness that his caretaker is going to introduce to him. Other than getting loose or ticks what are some outdoor things to watch out for? I do have some other weird questions but this post is long enough lol. Thank you again to everyone who gives their input.
