  1. Not just strip her naked, pluck every single hair from her body as well. I loved the pictures. Look at all the new feathers coming in!
  2. Can't they be reported? There aught to be something that can be done! I'm so sorry. :*(
  3. Oh no! Praying for it to be a false positive.
  4. Thanks Ray. I can't stand an empty cage, if she won't play with them at least they are decorations for me. Kito has shown zero interest in getting very close to her so I have been leaving Scarlet's cage door open all day with the t-stand/rope perch I made for her attached. I'm trying to entice her to move around more so at least she has to go out of her cage to eat pellets.
  5. Thanks Janet and Nancy. I'm hoping the poor care she received in the past does not impact her expected lifespan of 40 to 60 years.....especially since she's already 40ish! We are going to love her as long as she can be kept comfortable and miss her terribly after she is gone. Question for other owners of elderly birds: do they ever play? So far she has not shown any interest in anything except food.
  6. Woo hoo!! Hoping for good news on the test results today as well.
  7. Thanks! It is still a bit of a struggle to get her to step up and come away from her cage, but once we get her out in the livingroom she loves it. This afternoon I put a washcloth on the top of the couch and she talked and talked and then sat down and dozed while Lee laid on the couch. She REALLY didn't want me to pick her back up and I had to chase her a bit. Finally she hopped down to the floor and I was able to successfully get her to step up from there. Little old stinker!
  8. Thank you for taking the time to go visit Mark, and thanks for the detailed report. They do so much good work getting them on healthy diets, excellent vet care, training and rehabilitation. It is heartbreaking when you walk around looking at the birds and they all put on their cutest little acts and the talkers say their cutest lines. "Pick me! Pick me!," you can feel them saying. Some time I will tell you the story of my first visit there.
  9. Excellent! See, what the heck do I know. LOL! Maaaybe fighting is a precurser to playing. I wish you the best with him as always.
  10. Just know that you are giving him the best care possible. He does. We all do. {{{Murfchck}}} Happy Anniversary! 25 Years, WOW!! Keeping my fingers crossed the promotion goes through. Wishing you a terrific evening.
  11. I think I would forget about the plastic bottle and find some other less scary foraging toy. JMHO
  12. Aha, tacos! So now you can take all sorts of healthy foods, sprinkle them with a little bit of chili powder and cumin and put them in a taco shell and wahlah! Yeah, if he's like Kito that will work about once, if you are lucky. LOL!
  13. Miss Scarlet loves the boys. She is fine with me, but she rarely talks to me. The other night Neil was playing skyrim when I brought her out and I've never seen him drop that controller in the middle of the game before. LOL! He tried to give her a treat but she put her foot up to go to him instead. Then when she was comfortable on his hand she said "good boy." She acted like she really wanted to get to his shoulder but we didn't let her. I see lots of cuddling in their future. Miss Scarlet can talk quite clearly when she wants to. The first night when my husband Lee came in to meet her she said "hi there" plain as day and then "good girl" with such enthusiasm! Friday night we went out to dinner and when we came home she chirped really loudly and wouldn't stop. Lee went to greet her and said soothingly "quiet quiet honey" and she repeated it right back to him. Then the next day he was playing his guitar and when he got to the end of the song she said "quiet be quiet" in a very nice voice. Then we all laughed. If we are having a conversation in front of her she mumbles along in a man's voice saying things like "oh, what ya doing, ok, good good, yeah, uh huh." And then we laugh and she laughs with us. The only indication I have gotten that she was not always so happy is sometimes when I go in the bird room she will growl and bite the perch but then I tell her she is silly and she's all happy again. Oh and she must have some bad memory associated with raisins because I tried to give her one and she got angry and tried to bite me. Weird. Anything else she takes nicely so far. She is such a delight. It's hard to believe a bird with such a sunny disposition has been so passed around. We all adore her! I don't know why someone didn't take her sooner, but I'm sure glad she's ours!! I know it's the honeymoon right now, but she's here to stay no matter what may come.
  14. Eat Oliver Eat! Goooooo team Murfchck! How many birds does this person have? It's a good thing I don't live in TX. Grrrrrr
  15. Thanks for the update Mark. I'm glad to hear she is getting better. I hope you have a nice visit at CARE, say hello from Scarlet and me. I know you have enough on your plate right now. No more birds.......yet.
  16. I didn't know zons could make a happy smell!
  17. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. So did he take him off medications for now? Did he give you any suggestions of how to get some weight on him in a hurry? Maybe contact a good rescue that has been in existence for a number of years for some tips. They sadly see so much of this type of thing.
  18. Um yeah Dee, you are already a goner. LOL! I just went to look at cockatiels and look what happened. I couldn't be happier.
  19. Oh my godness! And I was just teasing my husband that he should wear a ski mask because he was begging to get chased by the cops as he was going to go joggin wearing hiking boots and jeans the other night. (Yes he is not a regular jogger, he's a construction worker lol.) I'll have to share this story with him for sure!
  20. Aww rats Dee. Sorry the little stinker thought he had to bite to get his point across. Mark you had me laughing out loud! Kito has not been much of a talker, and now with Scarlet home I have noticed how much I swear. Bad me! Ditto on pretty much everything Birdhouse said.
  21. Thanks Dee. Oh yes, I fell in love the first time I met her. I just couldn't get over how happy and friendly she was in spite of her difficult life. And the boys didn't stand a chance trying to resist her flirtations from the moment they met her either. Hahahahaha Ray! She is already so much more outgoing than Kito, and having no experience with zons, I have no idea what to expect!
  22. So sorry to hear of your vet troubles. {{{murfchck}}}
  23. Last night I got miss Scarlet away from her cage! I guess it's faster to explain how I did it with pictures. Eventually she was going out far enough and wasn't quickly retreating back in as soon as I got near. Then I just got between her and her cage and kept asking and finally she obliged and stepped up. We carefully and slowly toured the great room and went into the kitchen for a treat. Tonight went even better and she was less apprehensive and very happy!
