  1. Check your scale by placing something of a known weight, can of food maybe or bad of sugar?
  2. Some of our birds seem to wear as much food as they eat, mine do enjoy Poms. I cut a chunk out for each and let them enjoy and destroy.
  3. A mutual admiration relationship started between the brother-in-law and Sophie, wonderful!
  4. Fortunate birds to arrive in a home where they will be as loved and cared for as in their original home. Lucky you and great for them.
  5. May be one of those people who believe their own stories, or if they has that many birds some confusion may have set in, who knows? Too much bird dust on the brain.
  6. Nice Vet, great results you should have some peace of mind now.
  7. Yes Caution is a wonderful thing and Greys can strike very fast. Caiques are adorable quick witted little gems, can bee nippy and a bit A.D.D. but lovely. I love their fluffy little pantaloons.
  8. We can call that sort of a limited wing trim an Altitude adjustment.
  9. Beautiful plumage, it is nice to know you are loved.
  10. Posts usually work for me but the pm thingy is dead.
  11. This is why Umbie Too's as so hard to place in the right homes, not many folks have the energy required to keep up with a Too on the loose. They can put the other Parrots to the test on both sound and destructiveness and beat them all on loving. Looks like a possibility for a "real life with birds" TV show to me.
  12. This list should help you. http://www.birdsnways.com/articles/abvpvets.htm
  13. Poor little guy he just had a rough start in life. So sorry you are having to suffer through this with him. Your new Vet sounds very thorough.
  14. They do know more about us than most folk would think. Their survival hinges on being able to read their surroundings for any threats therefore leading to being experts at body language translation.
  15. Yes they enjoy hot, sour and some bitter flavors we do not care for.
  16. Love those baby crests, spiky little dinosaurs, I used to raise them too what sweeties.
  17. That is huge, when he is able to fly through the room and land where he wants to that will be amazing for you both.
  18. We will all be awaiting your update on Luigi and his leg.
  19. Some times I wonder if these birds some how mark us with a secret sign only they can read. The fort play for your big B&G guys may lead to a little fiestiness later as that may be considered a nesting spot, look out for those hormonal peaks.
  20. Metacam is not only a pain reliever often prescribed for birds it also is an anti inflammatory to help reduce the swelling and bruising associated with blunt trauma in this case. Your bird is most likely having difficultly blancing on one leg when used to using both to get around it takes a little time to adjust to his situation. Any questions do call your Vet.
  21. Greymom we do have a section for toys that If I remember correctoy may have some homemade stands for birds that can be done cheaply and still be fun for the birds. I know folks who have made them out of walkers, tv stands, hat racks and old laundry racks. Use your imagination add some toys and busy work some little treats. I mine is made from the bottom of an old rolley (office)chair put a pipe in the center of the base stuck a crape myrtle branch in that and added ropes, measuring spoons and what ever else I had lying around it is fun for them and can be rolled from room to room.

    Now what?

just start by putting a little on the foods you offer or add to birdy bread or some warm bean and or grain mix. Remember something that looks new may be scary so offer it hidden to begin with.
  23. Our worst beggar is Fred the Elanora cockatoo, he will take food out of your hand on the way to your mouth and demands a taste of anything you are eating. The Greys just accept their due share, although Pookie wants it in her bowl and not from a hand or spoon. Smokey Joe takes it and throws it even if it is something he wants, except grapes they are too valuable to toss usually. Harry Too just takes what he wants and used to let himself out to do so http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa264/Firefly_mom/DSC06585.jpg
  24. They are very creative in finding new ways to make a big noise. God to see another Houston area Texan on here so welcome neighbor. Our Greys love to beat up bells especially, Smokey Joe enjoys hanging upside down karate kicking with one foot while supporting himself with the other. Yes he can get so carried away destroying the enemy bell that he looses his grip and falls to the cage bottom. Pookie gets very wound up killing her designated enemy that she gets quite the workout then sits calmly under the enemy toy and makes it rub her head by swinging it back and forth while she sits under it and holds her head just so.
