Most of us have made errors in our lives and usually with out thinking things through. It is the unexpected that bites us. For a quirk of fate it could have been one of us instead,(answering the door or the phone)placing blame will not correct the death. I am certain she is heartsick and knowing she made the choice to leave the room is something she will always have to live with along with the memory of the struggle to save him. Maybe reading this and learning from it will save more lives, that is the best outcome from a tragic accident.

It is always funny to hear what you sound like in bad times as well as the good ones. Helpful bird you have there in Whisper.

Macey Died but Baby needs new home what do I do..?
Greywings replied to maceygrey's topic in The GREY Lounge
Do you know if what ever killed Macey was contagious? that would be my biggest concern, not wanting anything to harm the new baby. The lady you visited sounds lovely. I know your heart is painful right now but listen to your soul. -
Sounds both yummy and messy the kind of food Pookie really enjoys.

I have 2 Toos they are both rehomes and came with baggage. With work and the ability to ignore hissy fits and the patience to teach them to entertain them selves they can be wonderful. My Grey is friend with the Elanora and no one but people interact with our Umbie male as he is jealous and can be aggressive. With any Too the secret is to give no more time than you wish to invest in them daily, lots of toys and things to do to keep them selves busy.

Why are the Greys the messiest eaters? My Umbie, the elanora and the Cockatiels are never as messy as my Grey girl. Wipes her beak on everything and manages to spatter food every where. It does look like a murder scene when they get a Pomegranate;) , perhaps an outdoor cage food with paper and then sell it as artwork?

Enjoyed sharing your visit with Blue, he sounds like a gentleman. Glad you are feeling better too.

The Pet land store near me closed last year after only being open for about 1 year. I had spotted a hand fed Macaw baby fully feathered but not matured with an empty crop sitting on the floor of his cage doing the baby bird hungry cry when I pointed it out that the bird needed feeding they told me he was on a once a day feeding. This baby was shaking and unable to perch, I told them to feed him & get him to the Vet now! They blew me off so I went home and looked up corporates address and phone# told them that they were going to loose their investment for the price of a few additional feedings and how wasteful that was of both life and money. I also called my friend from the other side of town who came down with her Macaw on hand to walk through the store get their attention and discuss the needs of that baby. They did get a Vet to look at the bird and reccomended more freq. feedings calling the bird a slow developer. They closed about one month later. So I suggest expressing your concerns politely as a bird owner your self with concerns as to the birds health & safety. Good luck and let us know what happens and if you get a reply.

Wondering how this went for you and Misty. I adopted a 20 year old Grey a little over a year ago and she had always been clipped. Poor bay flew like a rock-straight down after we let her wings fill out. Now she can both fly and land safely. It took a while for her to gain the muscle and the control to regain flight. It must be like people who are couch potatoes beginning an exercise program. She has more energy now and I hope is healthier due to the exercise. She still cannot sustain a long flight but she can fly!

I have an Umbie Too who can help you get into those designer shoes...but that would cut down on your bird toy money.

Looks like she cheB) wed it through or after it came out. Not to worry.

Generally speaking they do play with feathers but it is not a normal behavior to be pulling them out. I would increase bathing, add a bit more fatty acid &dark leafy greens for calcium to the diet. Feather pulling can be a sing of yeast on the skin or in the crop, allergies to a food like Peanuts or boredom ect. You may want to add some more shreddy type toys and give your vet a call if this behavior continues.

I am so very sorry and sad for you right now. Hugs and wing hugs to you and may Macy fly free over the rainbow bridge to wait for you on the other side. Do they know what went wrong to make her so sick? I know it is difficult to review but perhaps it may help save another bird if more of us knew what to look for or avoid. Thank you for letting us know what happened and eventually you will treasure the good memories to keep her always close to your heart.

The babies are clumsy and often do damage the tail feathers learning to balance and play at the same time. Not to worry your bird should solve his own feather issues and a new one will soon grow into place.

I love a happy ending, good work!

Enjoy your new high fiber recipe results.

My Grey thinks showers are evil but it sounds like your bird enjoys them. Good for her and will help reduce the amount of Grey dust you live with as well.

His life story is a good one, I wish I had more knowledge of my flocks previous lives.

Hello Terri I am new too and live in Texas also. We have one CAG, one Umbie, one Elanora and some Parakeets and Tiels. Two dogs, five cats and a family of 7 including my 85 year old Mom. I work 4-6 hrs a day and volunteer at the local exotic bird sanctuary on weekends.

Have you noticed that sometimes the water is blue or pink mine seems to enjoy the color of they day, she does not get pellets very often and not colored ones at all, but she loves to soak her colored wooden beads to make her water colorful. Their seems to be a color of the day.

Do you have news on Macey? Could it be a heavy metal issue? You just feel so helpless when they are so sick. Prayers and healing wishes flying her way.

I think it will take a while and lots of slow gentle talk and interaction to gain his full trust. Try singing or reading poems or stories to him, Pookie is not a music critic but she loves it when anyone sings. Some time s Greys can be protective of their cages and don't want you in their space. If it is hands he doesn't like then try an arm or wrist with your hands closed.
