  1. Great idea but what does it do to the AC bill? How frequently do you have to clean off the dust?
  2. Will send those healing thoughts and pray for a rapid recovery.
  3. Good for you, Brutus will use those words less frequently as the years pass but they may never entirely disappear. I think the older generation had that mind set of calling people instead of the behavior bad. I know I grew up with those labels being used in the home and swore I would never so that to my kids or fids. Keep up the positive feed back with him.
  4. I know of several birds who have suffered physical trauma in their past homes and one or two others who had witnessed violence. A friend on the East coast has a bird that screams like a woman being beaten and sobs out a please stop. Very disturbing baggage indeed. Fortunately there are many birds who come to us from happy homes and the birds are well adjusted and make the transition smoothly having less to deal with and fewer learned suspicions.
  5. Safe travels and enjoy that visit to the maxium!
  6. Collars can be a help for a situation where the healing either hurts or is very itchy. I live with a self mutilating Elanora Cockatoo and it is needed to keep this otherwise happy and loving bird from requiring surgery to close the areas he opens up. He came to me (after several homes some of them not very good) having had two surgeries to repair all the damage to his chest. His diet, bathing and interactions are all improved from when we got him but he is not able to get out of this syndrome. Praying for a cure but till then wears both a jaunty jacket and a collar most of the time. If the vet suggested it try it and see if he will allow it to heal, spray mist or shower him frequently after removing it.
  7. We are all Greyed anyway so feel at home.
  8. Got to love those Too's.
  9. You are right it is nice to be able to show how we all appreciate each other and the contributions made here and Jilly is right that pat on the back can make you smile.
  10. Ok we need a video of that maneuver please it sounds fascinating.
  11. I thought it was Yoshi who should be wearing it? lol
  12. Too cute, I love that little game you are playing with him.
  13. LOL Happy Birthday and you just keep getting better whatever your ages.
  14. Coffee filters are cheap and you can use them in many ways to provide foraging or chewing opportunities.
  15. Also keep in mind that he is in a new place with new surroundings, sounds and routines than he was used to so his appetite might be off for a few days. Give him time and try the chopping fine and mixing in the seeds as Jilly Beans suggested it does work they have to get some in those beaks just eating the seeds. It also helps to remove any food source at night and offer the veggies first thing in the morning when they are the most hungry they are more likely to dig in.
  16. Aww Gabe has that shine in his eyes and Ana feels safe and loved.
  17. And my semi American semi Britt head
  18. I shop like you but not so well, can never remember the coupons by the time I get to the check out and remember they are at home. Impress with your paper towel story that would save a great deal of money can you share that with us?
  19. to me that is one perfect feather after all he has survived, when he eventually molts it you must have it framed!
  20. A humidifier will help the birds comfort and may reduce the dust a little but you must keep it scrupulously clean to avoid giving your bird a bacterial or fungal infection of his air sacs or lungs. A good quality air purifier will do more good for you, make certain it is a non ionizing model. If you think the dust is bad with a Grey try living with a Cockatoo or two. At the moment we have two Too's and three Greys-you just imagine what the black cabinets look like every day.
  21. I took ours off ages ago as they were very painful on my shins and I could not seem to avoid the bruising and scrapes. Easier to just put a towel or some bath mats on the floor pick up take outside & shake then throw in the wash.
  22. All of this is so very true-and he is wearing Grey!
  23. If you get her to save her then take her to the Vet immediately in case she has any health related isssues from living dirty. Then quarantine her in a separate room and wash hands every time you touch her cage, her or her food & water. This will avoid any cross contamination until you are certain of her good health most people recommend any where from a thirty day to a ninety day quarantine. Better safe than sorry. I would take her if it were me because I am such a mush for any bird trapped in such conditions. Either way do let us know what you decide to do.>:>
