  1. Almost all veggies are washed in bleach and water. I worked for a water truck company and for drinking water bleach was dumped right into the water to sanitize it. Most all potable water is bleach ridden to make it potable. Most likely bottled water has trace amounts of bleach. I say it's fine. But it's better to be safe than sorry!!!!!
  2. thanks dave. It helps a lot. And I'm planning on getting a bigger cage in a year or two. It's just with the price of the grey, cage, all new toys, perches, a vet visit, formula, a new brooder, so on and so on it gets expensive. But I'm a huge worrier and my birds only get the best. And the cage itself is 36" high. With the base and wheels it's 58". Thanks again!!!
  3. Well I don't have my grey yet, I'm getting her in a week, but my sun conure is extremely rude to visitors. He bangs his beak on the cage and bites the cage. If he's with me on the couch he'll get off my shoulder and charge at the guest untill they back off. It's like he's protecting me. At least I know he loves me
  4. So I have a very nice heavy duty cage but it's on the smaller side. 24 x 24 x 36. I live in a smaller 2 bedroom house and I don't have room for a much bigger cage or the money right now. As of now I can have my birds out for 6 to 8 hours on weekdays and 10 or more hours on weekends. Is this cage size completely unacceptable? I was thinking about getting her a new cage in a year or so anyways.
  5. Yes I too get the wierd looks. I'm a 20 year old guy who works in a "manly" warehouse. All the guys think it's wierd that all this money and time gets spent on my birds. I talk about them so much and so highly though that some of them wanted a bird as well and I quickly had to talk them out of it. They're far to immature and self centered to have a bird. They quite don't realize the time I spend with my birds. And I know if they did get one it wouldn't have been properly cared for.
  6. I just became a member and I just read char's story about going to a breeder and seeing the birds in disgusting living quarters. When I hear stories like that it puts me into a blind rage. So I thought we should have a topic where we could share our favorite places to get a feathered friend. So I'll start... Without a doubt the best place I have found is pretty parrots and friendly ferrets. One of the co-owners has an immense love for birds, as we all do. You can tell she doesn't do it for the money. I did a lot of looking before I decided on who to buy my grey from and she defenitly gets 5 stars in my book. And "most" of her birds are around $400 to $600 cheaper. I would reccomend this place to anyone. I'd love to hears your favorite places and why they are.
  7. I don't have her yet. I'm getting her in a week or so. But maybe I should wait till I actually know her. It's just that I'm getting her really young so her full personality won't be apparent.
  8. Any ideas for grey names? Particularly female. thanks
  9. The intro topic was closed so I thought I'd make a new one. I've been around all kinds of birds my whole life. My mom was a bird breeder for 15 years, from scarlet and blue and gold macaws to finches. You name it we had it. She had an immense love for her birds, a love she passed on to me. Everything I know I learned from her. I began caring for the babies and handfeeding some of the larger species like greys, the macaws, amazons etc. When I was about 8 or 9. (very young) She slowly got out of breeding, I grew up and got married and preoccupied with life and grew apart from birds in general. About 2 years ago I decided I needed a bird in my life. I Brushed up on my knowledge a lot and learned a lot more, but I didn't know exactly what bird I wanted. I always loved my greys and macaws the best, but I knew I should start off smaller. After much thought I decided to adopt a sun conure. He's about a year and a half now and I love him to death. I wouldn't trade him for anything. If it's one thing he's taught me it's that my love for birds never diminished. I feel I haven't done a single thing wrong by him and vise virsa. But I needed a CAG. Awhile ago I did what I previously did and brushed up my knowledge on greys quite a bit. You guys have helped with that tremendously. Thank you. I contacted an old friend of my moms, who after the last 15 years has still continued to breed birds, and she just so happened to have baby greys that had just hatched on 6/10 11 and 12 2009. I am now the very soon to be, about a week, father of a baby girl CAG. I'm getting her at about 6 weeks. I have all the proper equipment, knowledge, skills, and dedication it takes to care for my baby so there's no need to worry about some idiot getting an unweaned baby and risking it's health and well being. I will always have these birds in my life and hopefully one day, one or two more. Well that's about it for my intro. Any questions about me or anything don't be afraid to ask. So for my question.... When I bring home my grey is there any risk of a disease, because of a lack of immune system on my greys part or for anyreason, being passed to my grey from my sun conure. They won't be around each other besides being in the same room and I always will wash my hands before feeding or handling my grey. My sun conure has never had any diseases or problems whatsoever. But I didn't know since they're from different parts of the world with different immunities to such. Also do you have any name ideas???? Thanks all of you for everything.
