ZivaDiva Do you think you can keep her in the family area where she can see you most of the time and be part of what is going on? I do feel for you and I can imagine how tiring it must be. A parrot that has behavior problems is not easy to live with I'm sure. I hope the book with give you some insight to all this and be a help to you. Please keep me posted..hope you get some rest! doubletefarm... just when I thought I had the greys pretty much down pat..lol! It really is funny being around my brothers, he is just so quiet..he talks, and talks but I have never heard him scream... I guess I need to buy ear plugs

ZivaDiva I also feel for you. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for you and your daughter. We do not have our grey home yet, so I can't offer advice from experience. To be honest, I never knew they screamed...my brother has a 12 y/o and some of our friends have greys as well and I haven't heard they scream. Here is a link to "Good Bird". If you go to books and video, you will see a book listed for 15.00 called A Guide to Solving Behavior Problems In Companion Parrots. This book really might be of help as it has the answers for what you are dealing with. There is also a link for a free news letter. go to www.goodbirdinc.com Hope this may help. Ann Marie

Lyric... Thank you so much! I am glad I have all of you!

Raposa, awh, Jenna sounds so sweet! It is a great experience to be able to watch them grow. I was wondering if he/she would know we were the people visiting all the time.. I am glad it had great results for you and Jenna. I tell the kids to talk to him/her so the baby knows their voice as well… every little bit helps.. Caitb2007 Thanks you! It’s funny, here I am thinking “what a sweet little baby, so docile†then I read the stages of a grey’s life and how they change month to month ..and saw this was totally normal behavior for them when they are this young.. lol.. Even though the waiting is hard, getting to visit and spend time with him as much as we like makes it a little easier.. takes the edge off.. Doubletefarm Thank you.. so far, perfect! {Feel-good-000200BB}

awh, Thank you! You are so right, they are all beautiful! he is a big baby, the owner thinks he is a boy because of his larger head.. any truth to that? He really is a sweet baby. So far he is very calm and falls asleep in your arms when he's held and cuddled..the pictures I have are pretty much the same..I finally remembered my camera..the others are all on my cell phone.. there will be more to come..I want to make a baby album... what I do need help with is suggestions for names..my kids like Alex.. it is a very cute name, but I feel because of the famous Alex, it is too common..:unsure: Thanks again to all of you! Ann Marie

Thanks so much for letting me join in again after all my ups and downs..and I had a few .. Jane.. please share how she taught you to properly do step up.. you left me hanging ..lol Patricia (tyco’s mom) awh, thanks so much for thinking of me and checking. That was so sweet! We are very happy, we really are. My brother has a grey who is 12 years old. He is an amazing bird.. smart as they come. A few of our friends have them also, so we are pretty familiar with them, even though they are a look don’t touch.. we enjoy them even so. Baxter’s mom, Thank you also .. that was so nice to think of me! ( I was checking there also looking to see what bird we got.. lol) My kids want to name him Alex.. They love “The famous Alex†We have his book and watched his video’s many of times, just amazing. I wasn’t crazy for it only because it is very popular.. then again, I guess it will work with being a male or female. While we were visiting, there was a lovely woman in the store. She came up and talked with us for a while.. all of a sudden she said “Greyson†for a name..I actually liked it, but the kids didn’t.. they actually hated it. .lol will see… Luvparrots, Thank you! He is a congo. The owner thinks he’s a boy because his head was bigger.. I do not know if we can take that to the bank, but I will probably have him dna’ d. I have to figure out how to post pictures on here the last time I tried to post a picture, it said it was to big, tried to get in from ‘my pictures’ I’ll try again! He is still not fully feathered.. just adorable and sweet! (for now. .lol) Carol.. Now you know every time I see your babies, I drool.. talk about cute! Love them! How much longer??? The waiting is not easy! We are in it two weeks now and it feels like two years… it’s hard. We were there yesterday and today to visit. He is such a sweet baby.. my son holds him for over an hour and he is just so darn cute. He fell asleep in my sons arms.. one lady who works there saw this and said, you definitely have the right bird ..look how he feels safe and content in your sons arms. . I was so happy to hear such a nice comment. .he seems very calm, more so than the other babies that are there. Next week the owner is going to start giving us a turn under his supervision to give him a hand feeding… can’t wait..I hope he remembers this when we take him home! Thanks again everyone.. it is so nice to be able to be a part of the world of greys! Ann Marie

Jane wow!! Lucky you!! She is really an amazing woman... She was at our local parrot society last year, I did not know until after the fact and we missed it. I am glad to hear everything worked out and you & your BF can now enjoy him! I am sure we will learn a lot through her... Ann Marie

Casper, Thank you... yes, we have been spending a lot of time with the baby. It's really wonderful that we can ..it will make the home coming easier for him/her. Everyone of us is holding, cuddling and talking to the baby. He will be familiar with us and know each of our voices... I am at ease and in a comfort zone with him.. it's such a great feeling when you know it's right.. we have been through a lot and I know I may have sounded crazy, but this is a huge commitment and I had to get past many question marks..glad I did! judygram..thank you for writing..yes, we are aware how they can be. We visit a few times a week, a few hours each time so he/she gets to know all of us. Hopefully he will be kind enough to a least tolerate most of us.. I ordered cd's from Barbara Heidenreich from Good Bird.. parrot behavior and training and understanding parrot body language.. can't wait to get them..any day! we also subscribed to the magazine... we have had books and we all have read them as well..the more info. the better Thanks! Ann Marie

Some of you may be familiar with some of my posts. We have been through a lot in finding the ’perfect’ bird for us…along the way I have learned so much. Our first choice was a grey. I had a change of heart thinking we needed a “family†bird that would like to be with all of us. Being our first med. size bird and knowing how exciting it was, I feared feelings would be hurt if the bird didn’t take to all members of the family. I was disappointed as we waited a long time for one. Reality set in and that just may be a fairy tale with any parrot.. you just never know who they will like, or who they won’t. Doing a lot of research on other species brought us back to the grey. It has been a roller coaster for us and a huge amount of consideration. So I would like to share we are getting a grey after all. We have one picked out and have been visiting him/her the past two weeks. We are all holding and cuddling the baby so he/she gets familiar with all of us from a young age ( 6 weeks now) I feel at ease knowing we did make the right choice and no longer have any doubt this is the right bird. I hope I am welcomed to learn and share with all of you, this is such a great site with tons of knowledge from all of you. I haven’t posted much, but I have been reading away which has taught me a lot already. I know it was a rocky start and mistakes have been made along the way, but I would like to wipe the slate clean and have a happy fresh start. Thanks Ann Marie

Hi Carol I am so happy for you! They are just precious and they shine health, I love them to pieces! We have a shih tzu also, she is just a baby, will be 7 months in May and she is a doll...and two maltese's. They love all of us, but me the most..I am the hand who feeds them..lol! I feel so much better I realized how difficult a too can be. I can see it working with those who live in warm climates and have an out door aviary (and no near by neighbors.. lol) It’s a shame there is two sides of them because they are very nice birds. The ekkie found a wonderful forever home, I was so happy to hear!! We were there today and I talked to the owner about the too.. he is such a great guy and didn’t up set him at all. They had four baby greys, 4 weeks old … after getting a much clearer picture than I first had, we might take one! I did not jump into it yet, I will really have to give it more thought.. funny how I am going back to the first bird we wanted. It will be nice to feel settled and look forward to having a new baby home. My daughter played with a baby sun conure and fell in love with him/her…. She begged for me to take him home, but I didn’t. She has a cockatiel and now she wants another. .I guess birds are addicting ! Keep me posted on your babies… when do you expect to bring them home?? What age do they normally wean? Hang in there!!! Ann Marie

carolandfamily oh how I love those faces..hehe! I am not getting a too... I have been on that web site and all I can say is WOW! I also read so much and as much as they are lovable, there is the other side. I know for a fact I will not be able to handle that... one thing I have learned is a parrot no matter what species may not like everyone... I guess that was really wishful thinking on my part, but one person they have to like around here is me...the main caregiver Our friends have greys.. now here is a bird that is known to pick one or two people they like.. I have also learned that if you get them as babies just weaned and everyone holds and loves the bird, he will accept his 'flock' but will still have his favorite. As far as that ekkie goes, that bird had issues..it was not fear biting, it was way beyond that. I love the pictures of your babies, melts my heart every time! can't wait for them to come home! Ann Marie

Storm Sorry you must have misunderstood...this is not our first bird..had budgies & tiels..grew up with parrots...it is much to long to write the entire story, but this one bird had issues for sure..this was not the normal fear biting at all... I was told by breeders and a behavior specialist I had talked with to bring him back... I doubt he was a baby either. A parrot is a life long commitment and it will take a while to find the right fit. Thanks Ann Marie

after breeding for 30 something years I don't see how she could of read this on the internet... I mis-spelled it , she just said the name. Does any of you know if there is a larger species of AG that she may be talking about? Thanks
-
lol..no, I am not... I actually ruled out greys, ( needed more of a family bird..not one who will pick one or two that they like) Then this one breeder I called a while ago called me last night and told me she had jaco's and they were the largest of the congo's, but they were different in temperament. I started a search on line and could not find any thing, so I posted here. I have a post called change of heart about not getting a grey thats explains it all...then we took an eclectus home, he constantly bit me. After a week, I had to bring him back. The owner told me to get this baby eleanora 'too'..he said they are not like the others that are larger in size and is a great bird if you do not spoil them...it is tempting, but I am nervous with a too even though I think they are great birds..but there are many down sides to them as well... trying to figure it all out... I really want a baby SI ekkie.. but after being bit, I see how they can pick favorites and not like others (like me) Ann Marie

hmmmm...looks like some one was pulling my leg. :silly: A breeder told me she raises "Jacos" she said they were larger than the reg. congo's and had more of a mellow temperament..thanks! Ann Marie

Does anyone know about the jaco congo grey or have one? If so, can you tell me about them or share pictures? Thanks ann marie
