1. Z does it and it's adorable. He picks a random spot on his cage and bangs away on the metal. He really gets into it and acts as if he has to do a good job.
2. I'm going on vacation at the end of the month for a week and am not sure what to do with Z. A friend is going to come over and feed my other birds and the rest of the animals. They will all be fine but Z is used to being out when I'm home and my friend will not be letting him out or be there that much. She's basically coming by and feeding twice a day and covering and uncovering cages. I'm thinking about boarding Z but they won't be letting him out either but at least they are there all day long and will interact with him. The downside is I'm afraid he'll feel abandoned, etc. I got him from the same place and he was there and quarantined for 6 weeks between homes. We've gone back for grooming and he was freaked. So, what's the best of the worst? Staying at home and not much interaction or lots of interaction but being boarded? I don't want to go! I want to stay home with my animals.

Post edited by: ZivaDiva, at: 2009/12/01 20:11
3. Take her to the vet. If she's stopped eating, it's important that she gets care now!
4. Jenna sounds so adorable! Z and I had many conversations this weekend but I'm drawing a blank on most of them. I messed up and left the AC on in the bedroom with Z when it wasn't that hot and when I went back in, he yelled at me, "It's too cold in here!" Earlier he asked me, "Are you all right?" I said, "Yes. Are you all right?" He replied, "I'm pooped."
5. Time to get this thread going again as I find it so funny. Last night, Z jumped off his cage several times and ran around my bed while I was sitting on it. I got sick of it and said, "What are you doing?" He replied, "I don't know" and continued to run around my bed. Someone rang the doorbell on Saturday and he yelled out, "Door's open!" He was on his cage and asking me questions. I responded the first zillion times and then went back to my book and ignored him. He repeated, "What 'cha doing? Are you happy?" When I didn't reply, he yelled, "SAY SOMETHING!!" A few random things - "Pretty is as pretty does" "Ollie is a barn owl" (Ollie is our cat he torments) "You're pretty. Now go outside, you smarta$$"
6. I have yet to recieve a refund from them and he no longer answers my emails. His last one asked if I had returned it and when I wrote back with the confirmation information, he disappeared. I am not happy. They kept my $170. Any suggestions? I think it might be time to go online and write about it everywhere possible.
7. Yes, things got better and then got worse again, but for a good reason. I adopted a green cheek conure and it upset all the birds and there was a lot of screaming and calling out to the other rooms. I pretty much fixed it by putting all the other birds in the living room and keeping Z in my bedroom. I spend a lot of time in my room so he gets the most attention. The other birds chat amongst themselves and are quite happy. Z just wants to be out and hanging with me. His vocabulary has increased and we how have our way of doing things and he seems quite happy. I continue to ignore bad behavior and will walk out of the room. He does scream once in a while but then says, "Whisper!" which he leared from the conure. So now he shushes himself and usually gets quiet.
8. I am so sorry for your loss. Accidents happen and I thank you for letting us know about it so it won't happen again. CoCo sounded very special and I'm glad you two had 13 years together.
9. There's something funny there. I'm not all that thrilled with the backpack. It's kind of a parakeet cage in a backpack. Obviously, I don't want to carry around a full sized grey cage but was surprised at how thin the plastic bottom was. In fact, the one I sent back had a chip on the bottom so I was happy I had one that was complete. I need to look into the different places to make reports like the BBB. I guess I'll get to that tomorrow. I'd really like my $177 back.
10. Has anyone had problems in dealing with Flying South, the company that sells the Adventure backpack? I have been having issues with them since May. I ordered one and was sent 2 and billed for both. I sent one back the middle of last month and have not received a refund. They happily answered my emails when they wanted to sell me extra things but haven't been answering most of my emails regarding the refund. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to deal with them? I have called my bank and am looking into reporting them elsewhere.
11. Yeah! Ana Grey is telling you what she wants! Thread highjack - sorry! I've been thinking about a cargo net. Where do you have it hanging and do you have anything underneath it to catch poop?
12. You are so lucky as are your birds. It's great to hear such a happy story. I hope it all continues to go well.
13. Toni - That is adorable! Alcazar must be having so much fun. I bought Ziva some infant toys and he loves them. The toys have lights and sing songs and if Z starts singing - The wheels on the bus go round and round - I will just die. I thought those days were over and I'd never have to hear those songs in my house again.
14. Raposa, What an adorable story! Poor Jenna needs a friend. I hope your mom is doing ok and home soon.
15. I was in bed yesterday with a migraine and Ziva and my lovebird were very noisy. It doesn't help that there's a fledgling crow running around outside under my window. It keeps cawwing and it's parents are there protecting it and feeding it. Ziva loves watching all the outside birds and then becomes a living See N Say toy. Z - "Do you see the birdies outside? Caw, caw, that's a crow. Cockadoodledoo -that's a rooster. Tweet, tweet, cheep, cheep - that's a birdie. Bow wow bow wow -that's a doggiedog. Meow - that's a kitty. Caw, caw, that's a crow. (the best one is...) What's up, Doc? That's a bunny." That went on for hours because of the crow outside. I asked him to be quiet and he said - Z - Are you all right? Me - no Z - What's your problem? me - I have a bad headache. Z - What's the matter? me - Um, I have a headache and my head hurts. Will you please be quiet and talk pretty? Z - You're pretty. me- Thanks. Z - I love you so much that I could just eat you up! me - Um, thanks? Z - ......ok
16. I'm not sure what to do with his name. He was Diva for 6 years and then I changed it to Ziva AKA ZivaDiva. Ziva is a Hebrew name meaning Brilliance, Brightness, Light of God and is the name of a character on NCIS. The male version is Ziv "Zeev". Don't know if I'm going to call him Z or Ziv. He already knows Diva after 6 years and says it quite frequently but has also been changing it to Ziva. I had already been calling him Ziv and Z that wouldn't be much of a change. I had really believed Z was male but it's still a shock. I work in HIV/AIDS and have a lot of patient's that are gay and/or transgendered so having a male parrot named Diva is kind of funny and appropriate.
17. Those are great pictures. I am going to have to try the bath trip with Ziva. So far, I've gotten him to use a pyrex dish but we need something bigger.
18. I'm home with a migraine and this is not the house for that. I called Zoogen for the results and Ziva and my lovebird were screaming. I hung up the phone and thought my head was going to explode and I kind of lost it. I yelled - All right. All right. All right!!!! Z stopped screaming, looked at me and said in a sing-songy voice, "YOU'RE being too noisy!" I said, "Oh, yeah? Well, you're a boy!" Z - "OOOOOOH SH$T! Well...."
19. Yes, they will pick that up also. I fostered an Amazon for a few months and he was kept in the bedroom and he sure had that down. His former human was a "stud" with a Corvette and beach house and a rotating bedroom door. I was shocked the first time the bird started in but quickly figured out where he'd picked it up. I cuss like crazy which is why they knew I wouldn't be shocked with Ziva's language. Several weeks ago I did something that pissed me off and I said, "What the fffff" and then stopped as I try not to say the f word anyway and didn't want to say it in front of Ziva. Well, she finished the sentence for me.
20. My mom is trying to teach Ziva to say, "I'm not a pigeon. I'm a parrot." No luck so far but when she does, I'm sure she'll add a cuss word in there somewhere.
21. The rest of Ziva's lab work came back fine. It looks like it's her diet that's making her liver results wonky. I'm trying to change her diet and hope I'm not starving her. She is one unhappy parrot and tried to attack me the other night. I finally sent in the blood to Zoogen and we should know her sex tomorrow. I can't wait. I'm not sure why but I want those results now! I have no idea what I'll do with her name if she's a he. I might just change it to Z. The vet said to start off with 50% seed, and the rest is veggies, some fruit and Harrisons pellets. He said to mix it all up so she can't just eat the seed out a dish. Well, she's not happy! I'm supposed to cut it down by 10% each week. I don't know how to cut it down by 10% as I don't measure the food so it's pretty much the same as it was last week! I need to go poke around and look at changing the diet posts.
22. Ziva was screaming last night as I was going in and out of the room and I was ignoring her. I know she knows it's not ok and ignoring usually works but I'd had it and I asked her to "talk pretty" and she screamed again. I asked her again and she stared at me and screamed. I said, "Ziiiiivvvvaaaaaa." And she replied with, " OK.....OK......" Then she went back to talking pretty - as she says. She was quite talkative last night but was basically mumbling and I couldn't understand most of what she was saying. It was in her former humans voice and I felt like I was listening to a cranky 91 year old woman from NY in another room. I could get some of it but not most of it. She went on and on and then suddenly said, "OOOOOOh sh$t. He's high ALLLLLL the time!" The elderly woman sounds like she has quite the life and Ziva sure picked it up.
23. It was funny but I was dying at first. The vet now knows the story so he gets it and he thought it was funny. He did ask what cuss words she says and the list is long. The people in the waiting room have a good story to tell and they don't know why she was asking about cockroaches.
