CarolandFamily replied to Devin25's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Oh wow Ben thank you for that link it's so sad what people do to the poor babies! I was just reading Angel's story oh goodness BUT she is going to have a happy ending thanks to the rescue service that you belong too. Devin I hope that you go here and see what they have to offer you and for the birds all I can say is WOW! Carol -

New owners considering rescue vs. babies
CarolandFamily replied to Gryphon's topic in The GREY Lounge
Stephanie- I have read this post and I agree with Dave as well. We are getting two baby Greys and as I read the post and maybe I am wrong I feel that YOU are saying we shouldn't get baby Greys? I have an adopted ADULT cat that we got from a rescue and yes maybe a cat is different then a bird.He was a homeless cat and a elderly lady called to have him picked up, he was at her door everyday and couldn't keep him where she lived. I chose to adopt a OLDER cat well he was 2. Let me tell you he was a NIGHTMARE when we got him. He would be in the garbage cans when we were sleep, on my table eating food, in my toilet, in my sinks, on my stove etc.. BUT I chose to stick it out and LOVE Milo to death! He is an awesome cat but he had a bunch of issues. The rescue was going to take him back but me and partner said nope were gonna stick it out. Every now and then he gets on my table to sleep lol, he STILL get's in my bathroom sink to drink water BUT when im upset or in tears he sits by my door and looks at me and hops in the bed to sleep. At any rate I chose to get 2 babies and yes we know that they are ALOT of work and a LIFETIME commitment and I applaud those of you have adopted and loved the ones who were either abused or neglected. I applaud your work Stephanie for doing what you do and being so passionate about rehoming greys. I just know for us rehoming a Grey was not the road I wanted. We all know what we are capable of or what we want to do. I think alot of these stories are so sad but look at all the beautiful birds that have had a happy ending.<br><br>Post edited by: CarolandFamily, at: 2009/05/04 19:19 -

Thinking about getting a grey
CarolandFamily replied to Devin25's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
You are welcome Judy! They are a whole different species I would rather pick up feathers then peel off dead skin  been there done that. I forgot too you also have to maintain a certain temp too. Now it may say that there only suppose to shed once a month but they can shed more then that. They grow very very fast too. We did choose a gentle python but in time she would have been taller then me lol I am 5'10  So there more then just sitting in a tank there a full time job too -
Oh ok I don't know how much tha costs in Ameican dollars lol. I have had birds before and when we got our baby boy his sister was up for sale the person who was suppose to get her did not so there she was. I asked everyone on here if I should get two would it be better for our lil boy Ahjari? and even our breeder said two would be great because they would keep each other company as well, BUT she never forced us to get her and now were having twins. When was your baby hatched? Our lil boy Ahjari was hatched Feb 28th and our Lil girl "Mani" was March 1st a day apart lol. They are from the same clutch so that was a rare chance and we took it

Thinking about getting a grey

Devin-Alot of people here have given great advice. My daughter had a Ball Python 10 years ago, let me tell you they are ALOT of work. She was 6 yrs old when we got her one lol. I of course was the main one buying stuff and feeding her ugggh me and my older son, My cat at that time was waiting on the mice to jump out of the cage during feeding time so he could have some playtime lol. We had a Baby Ball Python her set up plus her was around maybe 350. You have to feed them either LIVE baby mice or frozen ones when they are a baby. They eventually move up to rats when they get a little bit older and some can eat Guiena pigs, some larger ones even eat chickens. I am from California and we had a great place called the East Bay Vivarium and people all over the world would order there reptiles or stop by. It's one of the largest Reptile stores in the USA Here is there website: http://http://http://www.eastbayvivarium.com/ You have to buy there food once a week, the cage, the heat lamp, the themometer, the rock, the bedding , the cage etc... Our Ball Python didn't shed properly so we had to get her a plastic box poke holes in it and let her sit in the water for 15 MIN and then PEEL of her dead skin. She couldn't do it on her own. When they shed you had to becareful when you feed them because they are temporarily blind and cannot see, so if you feed the a live prey YOU have to watch them because the live prey could bit them and BACK to a vet you go! You have to fnd a specialty vet that takes care of reptiles. Over time I was working like 6 days a week my daughter outgrew and was bored with keeping the snake and I was grossed out about giving it feeder mice once a week, peeling the snakes skin off (bleech) that was NOT a easy task. I gave her to my GF at work and she loved her to death. They can get up to 6 ft long too and of course as they get bigger they need bigger size cages and so forth. I am NOT telling you what you should or should not do but Snakes are alot of work too. You have to make the decision that is right for you. My kids are older now I have a spouse so we have MORE then enough love here at my house for our babies. I don't work as much anymore so there is always someone home. Take care and your decsion is yours alone <br><br>Post edited by: CarolandFamily, at: 2009/05/03 14:39 -
Awww That is so awesome AnnMarie! My babies might be here end of the month! My breeder sent me an update esterday the rwins are REFUSING there morning feeds! Yipppeee so they are eating on there own in the mornings and are cutting back on the lunch feeds! So the litte boogers are almost weaned! lol She wants them fully feathered, flying on there own and eating on there own before they come here. I say either the end of May or maybe the second week of June. I am in no rush I just want them to be ready. I am so happy for you and glad we were able to share messages back and forth on here. You have my email send me one whenever and I can't wait to hear more about your baby! Jane- I am going to have to check out your video. I was on Barbra's website earlier today she looks so wonderful. Edillion I am sooo glad that you got your baby yipppeee I know that you are so happy. P.s That's my breeder right there fofaviary! lol Tina is the one that I emailed to death and I still do even though she has a gazzilion new babies now she still finds the time to email me! -
I was at one point going to have our baby clipped, I have had one bird that was clipped many years ago. Talking to Judy and Dave really made me think good and hard and I decided NOT to get my babies clipped. I have the Aviator harnesses for both of my babies. Judy told me this sad story about her baby who was clipped *sigh* That was a big factor too and I talked to my breeder about it too and asked her not to clip them. I am not pro or anti I just want what's best for both of my babies and to each it's own. Everyone has reasonings why they do what they do <br><br>Post edited by: CarolandFamily, at: 2009/05/01 01:28
