  1. Well I have my grey finally. I decided to just go ahead and do it rather than to over annalyze the prospect of getting one. Her name is Vontease. She is a 15 year old grey. Her old owner couldn't keep her anymore because of health problems, so I decided to open my home to her. At first I felt overwhelmed by having such a sensitive creature in my charge and I didn't know if I was up to the task. I have had her for three days and she seems to be coming out of her shelll bit by bit. She is starting to talk; she says, hello, hi there honey, pretty bird, and water. She steps up and plays on top of her cage. So far so good. Will keep you posted on her progress. As per our agreement the previous owner will be stopping by periodically to visit with Vontease to help her transition go more smoothly. She will bee over tomorrow in fact, so we are both looking forward to that.
  2. thanks everyone for making me feel welcome. Does anyone know of a good breeder or shelters where i could look at a african grey and to get a better feel for getting one or not. A friend of mine has one that is great, but he does bite. Do they all have a tendancy to bite? His has red mixed in with the grey on the wings. He adopted him from some guy he used to work with who kept him locked up in a closet for four years. I would like one that looks like his I think. So if you know of breeders that have the grey/red combo deal on the wings I would like to get contact information. I am willing to travel anywhere in California to check out a breeder that specializes in these greys. Later, Gordon
  3. Are greys really just one person birds or is that just a myth. what is the best wya to bond with this type of parrot.
  4. I'm Gordon and I live in California, and I am thinking about getting a parrot. I grew up with quakers, and they are great, but I live in California now and they are illegal to keep here. They are nonnative or something like that. I would like to know the upsides of having a grey as well as the downsides. Later, Gordon
