It really is a must-read...please let me know what you think when/if you get it! I'm anxious to see if my boyf and I can successfully execute the training techniques she talks about using in the book once our Chimay arrives!

It's called "Alex & Me" by Dr. Irene Pepperberg. She worked with her grey Alex for like 30 years to prove the intelligence and vocal abilities of the Grey. Alex was an amazing bird...I highly, highly recommend you pick it up.

Melrn57 my heart goes out to you guys and I really hope everything turns out for the best with Smokey. It sounds like you guys really want to go the extra mile in regaining his trust and hopefully that will come with time. Our CAG isn't here yet so I have no experience to speak of on this matter, but we'll be thinking about you!

Just got my UPS tracking number and my replacement panels should be delivered this Wednesday...Hopefully everything will arrive in one piece. Then it'll all be up to whatever mechanical intellect my boyfriend and I have to put it together. Ha ha!

I am loving this book! And I am really REALLY not a reader. When it comes to stories, my boyfriend will read the book and I'll see the movie. Ha ha... I'm hoping that a lot of other people out there have read it as well and enjoyed it as much as I am. I didn't know much about Alex other than what couple clips are availble on YouTube, and I had no idea how incredibly smart he was and how blatant it was that he really understood everything he was saying. That model/rival training technique really worked a miracle. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it!

Wow! I really like those atom swings...I may have to go back to that site once Chimay gets here and I get an idea as to what kind of toys/swings/etc he likes. Nice find!

So Chimay should be here by next weekend (eee!), and we received our cage delivery last Wednesday. I was off from work, so I waited anxiously for my boyfriend to get home so he could help me lift the heavy panels and put it together. Finally he did and we tore into the boxes. Much to my dismay, I cringed when I heard him say "is it supposed to look like that?" I didn't want to look, but saw that the legs on the rear panel of the cage were SO bent up, practically about to snap off. In fact, a bar running between the legs HAD snapped in half, the missing piece nowhere to be found. I was so upset...everything had been moving so smoothly until that time, and I was furious with the company who had shipped such an obviously mishandled item (box wasn't damaged so it didn't happen during shipping). Fortunately I called the manufacturer right away the next day, and our replacement parts are on their way via UPS. I felt I had to lie a little and tell them that our grey was scheduled to arrive this weekend, to avoid any possible delays. If you guys hear a loud noise coming from the US's Midwest, you'll know my replacement parts were damaged too. Ha ha!!! Crossing my fingers though... Wow that playstand looks fantastic!!! I wish we had the room available in our apartment for something like that! Kudos to you!

That looks cool!!! Nice job... I feel your anticipation, my CAG is expected next weekend and I've already gotten in on the homemade toy experience. Now it's just a matter of making sure I have enough by the time he gets here! I'm sure your new grey will love it just like those other birdies did!

"Calm down" Lol! Very good advice Dave...and that is definitely not sarcasm. I do have a tendency to overthink things sometimes (an unfortunate trait I've inherited from my dad's side of the family), and it really helps when someone pulls me back down to Earth. Thank you!!!

Our CAG will be here in about three weeks, and we've already set up an appointment for his first visit at the avian vet. This vet was chosen based on good experience had by my mother and my childhood TAG, but if it hadn't been for that we'd still be using him since he's the ONLY avian vet anywhere in our area. Are there any sure-signs to look for so that we know we're not only at the only avian vet, but a GOOD vet? I want to make sure he's not a quack (no avian pun intended. )

I'm not sure why "three weeks" sounds SO much shorter than a month away, but it does! I've already numbered the baby-countdown days on my desk calendar at work. I'm sure that deep down my coworkers think I'm just a wee bit crazy for being so excited about a bird, but at least I have you guys to relate to! Lol

We are really excited...I just heard from our breeder again today, and it's looking like he'll come home a weekend earlier than expected! I wasn't anticipating him coming home until 3/27-3/28, but she's expecting to ship by 3/20-3/21! I know it only moves the timeframe up by a week but it makes it seem SO much closer now!

Here's the newest pic from our breeder! We also have one of him up and flapping his wings but I can't seem to crop it small enough to fit the maximum size allotment for the post. Oh well!

I wish I knew what to tell you, other than if you're in doubt, don't do it. Hopefully Dave will see this post and provide the sound advice he's so well known for! Good luck, and if you do make your playstand please post pics when it's done!
